1.Situation of the liver cancer in 125 patients through the CT scanner

365 patients with suspected liver tumor received the CT scanner in the X-ray department of the army central hospital 108 during 1996-1998. The results showed that 125 cases found suffering the liver cancer. Most of lesions were single focus and located in the right liver (81%). The lesions accompanied with cirrhosis (29.6%), with cholelitiasis or langitis (9.6%), with kidney stone (34%), 17% cases had invasive image (late stage)

Background: Bronchoscopy is an essential technique for diagnosis of some lung diseases by taking samples for histological and cytological tests. Objective: To assess the role of transbronchial lung biopsy procedure in diagnosis some parenchymal pulmonary diseases. Subjects and method: A retrospective study conducted in 50 patients with diffuse and localized lung diseases, who were admitted to the Department of Respiratory in Bach Mai Hospital, from January 2003 to December 2005. Results: Transbronchial lung biopsy confirmed the diagnosis in 30 of 50 (60%) cases; with localized malignant lesions (12%), diffuse lung disease (16%), tuberculosis (28%), and cystic fibrosis (4%). Following transbronchial lung biopsy, two patients had pneumothorax (1 patient had chest tube drainage) and five patients had hemoptysis but no of them required further treatment. Conclusions: Transbronchial lung biopsy offer good diagnostic accuracy and low complication rate.

6.Some opinions of images of the chest X-ray and CT-scanner for the diagnosis of lung paragonimiasis

Lung paragonimiasis is a disease caused by lung flukes characterized by the migration of a juvenile worm in early stage and the formation of cysts around the worm later on. We report a case of pulmonary paragonimiasis in the childhood causing recurrent haemoptysis and pneumonia. The purpose of this study was to describe the radiological manifestations of pulmonary paragonimiasis on chest X-rays and CT-Scans-Peripheral localized, multisegmental infiltration with pleural thickening of lesion, Focal and infiltrative shadows (10-15mm nodules + masslike consolidation). Bollous inflation (excentric thickening of Cyst wall). CT-scans provide more specific information

9.The value of CT scanner and MRI on the diagnosis of intracranial meningioma

10.Paradigm shifts in corneal transplantation.

Conventional corneal transplantation, in the form of penetrating keratoplasty (PK), involves full-thickness replacement of the cornea, and is a highly successful procedure. However, the cornea is anatomically a multi-layered structure. Pathology may only affect individual layers of the cornea, hence selective lamellar surgical replacement of only the diseased corneal layers whilst retaining unaffected layers represents a new paradigm shift in the field. Recent advancements in surgical techniques and instrumentation have resulted in several forms of manual, microkeratome and femto-second laser-assisted lamellar transplantation procedures. Anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ALK) aims at replacing only diseased or scarred corneal stroma, whilst retaining the unaffected corneal endothelial layer, thus obviating the risk of endothelial allograft rejection. Posterior lamellar keratoplasty/endothelial keratoplasty (PLK/EK) involves the replacement of the dysfunctional endothelial cell layer only. Whilst significant technical and surgical challenges are involved in performing lamellar micro-dissection of a tissue which is only 0.5 mm thick, the benefits of a more controlled surgical procedure and improved graft survival rates have resulted in a shift away from conventional PK. This review details the current advances in emerging lamellar corneal surgical procedures and highlights the main advantages and disadvantages of these new lamellar corneal procedures.
