8.Comment on indications of limb amputation in 13 high-voltage electrical burns that were treated in Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City

53 patients with high-voltage electrical burns who were treated in the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Cho Ray Hospital from January 1995 to August 1997 were reviewed. There were 126 electrical burn admissions in this period. Rate of high-voltage electrical burns was 42.06%. Amputation is required in 13 patients because of progressive muscle necrosis and infection. Fasciotomy for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes may be needed.

Traumatic amputation of a penis is an unusual injury. Amputation of the penis occurs most commonly as an act of self-emasculation, but has also been reported as resulting from assaults or accidental dismemberments. We report a case of successful clinical replantation of an amputated penis resulting from assaults by using a microvascular surgery.

The guidelines for the treatment of massive bone defects caused by bone resection due to tumors have changed from amputation to limb salvaging surgery. Limb salvaging surgery using endoprotheses is a well-established procedure. However, Aseptic loosening, infection, and mechanical defect remain significant problems. Among them, we experienced the case with a breakage of polyethylene lock of MUTARS(R) distal femur tumor Endoprostheses.
