Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the primary tool in investigation of the brain science. It is necessary to carry out a deepgoing study into the characteristics and information hidden in EEGs to meet the needs of the clinical research. In this paper, we present a wavelet-nonlinear dynamic methodology for analysis of nonlinear characteristic of EEGs and delta, theta, alpha, and beta sub-bands. We therefore studied the effectiveness of correlation dimension (CD), largest Lyapunov exponen, and approximate entropy (ApEn) in differentiation between the interictal EEG and ictal EEG based on statistical significance of the differences. The results showed that the nonlinear dynamic char acteristic of EEG and EEG subbands could be used as effective identification statistics in detecting seizures.

Objective To investigate the reproductive endocrine status of women with epilepsy at childbearing age and to systematically analyze the clinical features of reproductive endocrine disorders, especially polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS),to facilitate early detection and timely intervention. Methods In this study, scoring of anthropometry and physical signs, menstrul assessment, examination of sex hormone and pelvic ultrasound in women with epilepsy at childbearing age were performed, and the data such as overweight, central obesity,oligo/amenorrhea,luteinizing hormone (LH)/follicule-stimulating hormone (FSH),hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovary (PCO) were collected. The characteristics of their reproductive endocrine hormone disorders were analyzed statistically. Results The age of these patients was (22. 5 ± 7.0 ) years, and women younger than 30 years old and at their peak fertility accounted for 84. 89%. The prevalence rate of PCOS in women with epilepsy at childbearing age (12. 75% ) was significantly higher than that of ordinary women at childbearing age (7.2%) in China.Highly specific indicators for PCOS were hyperandrogenism (100%),LH/FSH > 2 (93%) and oligo/amenorrhea (90%),whilst the highly sensitive indicators for PCOS were PCO (92%), oligo/amenorrhea (85%) and hyperandrogenism (54%). This study revealed statistically significant difference in LH,LH/FSH and testosterone (T) between PCOS group (LH: (10.24 ± 6.92) IU/L; LH/FSH;(2.20 ± 1.16);T: ( 1.07 ± 0. 35) ng/ml) and non-PCOS group ( LH: (4. 16 ± 2.62 ) IU/L; LH/FSH:( 0. 87 ± 0. 56 );T: (0. 46 ±0. 25) ng/ml,t = -3. 899,-4. 240 and -4. 918 respectively, all P <0. 01 ). Conclusions Hormone indices are objective indicators for the diagnosis of PCOS. In clinical practice, attention should be paid to height, weight, abodominal circumference, menstrul history and ultrasound examination of the ovary in women with epilepsy. When reproductive endocrine hormone disorders are suspected from clinical features, the sex hormones (T,LH,and FSH ) should be checked to allow timely detection and early interventions.

Objective To discuss the feasibility and accuracy of dual-source CT ( DSCT) in the evaluation of aortic stenosis ( AS) with transthoracic echocardiography ( TTE) as reference. Methods A total of 53 patients who underwent both DSCT and TTE were prospectively evaluated. All of them were assessed by TTE for aortic stenosis.Maximum aortic valve area ( AVA) in systolic phase was measured with DSCT , and was compared to that index obtained from the continuity equation on TTE.The severity of AS was graded as mild , moderate , or severe according to the AVA.Linear regression analysis and Bland-Altman plots were used to compare the AVA measured by using CT and TTE.Agreement on semi-quantitative grades of AS severity between the two methods was tested by using Kappa statistics. Results The mean AVA using DSCT was (1.45 ±0.35 ) cm2 compared to the mean AVA of ( 1.33 ±0.36 ) cm2 using TTE, with a significant correlation between them (r=0.92,P<0.01).Bland-Altman analysis demonstrated good inter-modality consistency between DSCT and TTE.However , DSCT demonstrated a slight overestimation of the AVA compared to TTE.As identified by TTE, there were 53 patients with AS, 13 with mild AS, 21 with moderate AS , and 19 with severe AS.In 3 patients DSCT showed no AS , TTE detected mild AS.In 6 cases, TTE had graded the stenosis as moderate , but the stenosis degree was graded as mild using DSCT.Kappa analysis showed a good agreement between the two methods on semi -quantitative grades of aortic stenosis severity (Kappa=0.75,P<0.01).Conclusion AVA measurements using DSCT is feasible and reasonably accurate for those patients with moderate to severe aortic stenosis.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To investigate the effect of triptolide on the inhibition of microglial activation in 1-methyl-4-phenyl pyridinium ( MPP+)-induced hemiparkinson disease rats.METHODS:The rat model of Parkinson disease was es-tablished by intranigral injection of MPP +.The rats were randomly divided into sham group, MPP+group, triptolide group and vehicle group. The survival of dopaminergic neurons was detected by the immunofluorescence of tyrosine hydroxylase ( TH) in the substantia nigra ( SN) .The activation of microglia was determined by immunofluorescence of OX-42 ( micro-glia marker) in the SN.The expression of chemokine receptor CX3CR1 in SN was measured by Western blotting.RE-SULTS:Intranigral injection of MPP+increased the fluorescence intensity of the microglial marker, and promoted DA neu-ron degenerative death.Immunohistological analysis showed that the OX-42 density was decreased (P<0.01) and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) positive neurons were increased in the triptolide group (P<0.01).The expression of CX3CR1 was lower in triptolide group than that in model group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Triptolide may improve PA neurons func-tion in MPP+-induced rats through inhibiting CX3CR1 expression and microglial activation.

Objective To investigate the neuroprotective effect of Dengzhan Shengmai capsule (DZSM) in rat cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and to explore the mechanism. Methods Rats were divided into Sham group, MCAO group, DZSM group, carbenoxolone (CBX) group and DZSM + CBX group. Each group was assessed for neurological function , infarct volume and the expression of Caspase-3 48 h after reperfusion. Connexin 43 (Cx43) expression of MCAO group was detected 3, 12, 24, 48 h after reperfusion. Results There were lower neurological deficit scores , infarct volume and the expression of Caspase-3 in DZSM , CBX and DZSM + CBX group 48 h after reperfusion when compared with those in MCAO group (P < 0.05) but Cx43 expression level in each group increased after reperfusion at each time point (P < 0.05). Expression of Cx43 was lower in DZSM, CBX and DZSM + CBX group than that in MCAO group (P < 0.05). Lower expression of Cx43 was also seen in CBX and DZSM + CBX group when compared with that in DZSM group (P < 0.05). Conclusion DZSM capsule can improve neurological function , reduce infarct volume and inhibit the expression of Caspase-3. The mechanism may be related to its inhibition of Cx43 expression.

Six-degree set up errors were corrected using HexaPODTM evoRT bed under image of on board cone beam computed tomography ( CBCT) guided. All the patients received kilovoltage CBCT before receiving radiotherapy and after correction. The acquired images were co-registered with planning CT with bone window. The data of 838 CT images were analyzed and the errors of translational directions X ( lateral ) , Y ( lngitudi-nal),Z(vertical)and rotational directions RX(pitch), RY(roll), RZ(yaw) were recorded. The data were compared by t-test using SPSS 13. 0. Results:The absolute translational setup errors in X, Y and Z axes of cervical vertebra before correction were (1. 71 ± 0. 10) mm, (1. 81 ± 0. 11) mm and (1. 94 ± 0. 09) mm respectively:(3. 17 ± 0. 19) mm, (4. 26 ± 0. 28) mm and (2. 18 ± 0. 12) mm for thoracic vertebra, and (2. 69 ± 0. 24) mm, (3. 33 ± 0. 26) mm and (2. 86 ± 0. 21) mm for lumbar vertebra. The residual setup errors in X, Y and Z axes of cervical vertebra were (0. 5 ± 2. 4) mm,(0. 01 ± 2. 4) mm and (2. 4 ± 1. 4) mm, respectively after correction;(1. 17 ± 0. 11) mm,(0. 26 ± 0. 30) mm and (0. 08 ± 0. 12) mm for thoracic vertebra and (1. 09 ± 0. 24) mm,(2. 03 ± 1. 26) mm and (0. 06 ± 0. 51) mm for lumbar vertebra. The t-test of paired data of set up errors before and after CBCT showed significant difference in three translational directions of cervical vertebra and thoracic vertebra, only Z (t= -3. 518,P<0. 001) for lumbar vertebra. The absolute rotational setup errors in RX,RY and RZ axes of cervical vertebra before correction were 0 . 67 ° ± 0 . 04 ° ,1 . 06 ° ± 0 . 06 ° and 0 . 78 ° ± 0 . 05 ° respec-tively. 0. 62° ± 0. 05°, 0. 75° ± 0. 06°, and 0. 84° ± 0. 06° for thoracic vertebra, 0. 59° ± 0. 06°, 0. 80° ± 0. 07°, and 0. 73° ± 0. 06°for lumbar vertebra. The rotational directions RX, RY and RZ axes of cervical vertebra were 0 . 27 ° ± 0 . 14 ° , 1 . 20 ° ± 0 . 04 ° and 0 . 28 ° ± 0 . 05 ° respectively;0 . 02 ° ± 0 . 20 ° , 0. 05° ± 0. 26°and 0. 64° ± 0. 16°for thoracic vertebra and 0. 09° ± 0. 26°, 0. 50° ± 0. 05°,and 0. 03° ± 0. 16°for lumbar vertebra. The t-test of paired data of set up errors before and after CBCT showed signifi-cant difference in three rotational directions of cervical vertebra and lumbar vertebra, only RY(t=7. 106, P<0. 001)for thoracic vertebra. All the patients acquired pain relief and there was no radiation-induced toxicity detected clinically during a median follow-up of 6 months. Conclusion:Six-degree set up errors of spine tumors were corrected effectively with HexaPODTM evoRT bed under CBCT image guided and its feasibility in day-to-day clinical practice has been demonstrated.
