Objective To explore the application value of 3.0T magnetic resonance perfusion weighted imaging(PWI)in the rat late brain glioma model.Methods C6 glioma cells were injected stereotactically into the right caudate nucleus of 32 Wistar rats.In 3 weeks after inoculation,the conventional MRI and PWI were performed.The relative cerebral blood volume(rCBV)values were recorded and compared with the pathological results.Results The tumor formation in 30 inoculated rats were confirmed by the sub-sequent pathological examination,with the tumor formation rate of 100%.PWI showed that rCBV values of the brain glioma region and the contralateral mirror image brain tissue were 262.61±72.82 and 189.39±57.21,the difference between them was statisti-cally significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The rat late brain glioma model is suitable for the study on the blood volume of brain tumor tissues.

AIM: To explore the pathophysiological mechanism of postmenopausal osteoporosis, we established an animal model for postmenopausal osteoporosis and investigated the loss of bone mass.METHODS: Thirty-one female SD rats (three months old) were randomly divided into two groups: sixteen ovariectomized (OVX) and fifteen sham-operated group as control. At post-operated day 28, seven rats of either OVX group or sham-operated group were sacrificed. At post-operated day 56, the rest of either were sacrificed. The wet weight of the uteruses were measured and the changes of bone micro-architecture were studied by bone mineral density (BMD) and the data of bone histomorphometry. Objective To characterize the manifestations of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in nervous system with in-flammation-like presentation. Methods We reviewed clinical and laboratory data obtained from 3 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in nervous system with inflammation-like presentation.Those data include clinical manifestations,CSF examina-tions neuroimaging,pathology of biopsies,treatment and prognosis.Results The clinical manifestations of NHL in nervous system were variable and the findings of cerebrospinal fluid and imaging were not characteristic.Parital relief of symptoms by steroid cortisone could be achieved in some cases which maght further increased the difficulty in differentiating NHL from CNS inflammation.Several signs including no evidence of CNS inflammation,multiple organ involyements,especially the organ involvements outside CNS,and deterioration after a transient relief of symptoms by steroid cortisone,strongly suggest the possibility of NHL.Condusions We should increase physicians'awareness to NHL to reduce the misdiagnosis even though the final diagnosis relies on pathological examination.

AIM:To investigate the integrative treatment of both coenzyme Q 10 ( CoQ10 ) and minocycline in the rats intranigrally intoxicated with 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ( MPP+) .METHODS:The rat model of Parkinson disease ( PD) was established by intranigral microinjection of MPP +.The degree of microglial activation was measured by immuno-fluorescent density of OX-42 ( a microglia marker ) in the substantia nigra ( SN) .The number of viable dopaminergic neurons was determined by counting the tyrosine hydroxylase ( TH) positive neurons in the SN .The behavioral performances were re-vealed with the number of apomorphine-induced rotations , score of forelimb akinesia and vibrissae-elicited forelimb placing a-symmetry.RESULTS:Pretreatment with CoQ10 or intracerebroventricular (icv) posttreatment with minocycline alone pro-vided partial attenuation against MPP +-induced locomotor defects .Integrative therapy provided enhanced beneficial effects , and resulted in a significant attenuation of locomotor disability than any single therapy (all P<0.01).The results of immu-nohistological analysis showed that the TH positive neurons were maximally protected by integrative therapy compared with minocycline group and CoQ 10 group (P<0.01) .CONCLUSION:The integrative therapy of CoQ 10 combined with minocy-cline may offer additional therapeutic benefit to MPP +-induced hemiparkinson rat model .Such neuroprotective strategy of tar-geting different aspect of the neurodegenerative phenotypes may highlight a new therapeutic strategy for future management of PD.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the primary tool in investigation of the brain science. It is necessary to carry out a deepgoing study into the characteristics and information hidden in EEGs to meet the needs of the clinical research. In this paper, we present a wavelet-nonlinear dynamic methodology for analysis of nonlinear characteristic of EEGs and delta, theta, alpha, and beta sub-bands. We therefore studied the effectiveness of correlation dimension (CD), largest Lyapunov exponen, and approximate entropy (ApEn) in differentiation between the interictal EEG and ictal EEG based on statistical significance of the differences. The results showed that the nonlinear dynamic char acteristic of EEG and EEG subbands could be used as effective identification statistics in detecting seizures.

Objective: To investigate the quality of life among patients with occupational pneumoconiosis in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, so as to provide insights into improving the quality of life among patients with occupational pneumoconiosis. Methods: Patients with occupational pneumoconiosis in Jinhua City from 2009 to 2021 were retrieved from the National Occupational Disease and Health Risk Factors Monitoring Information System. Participants' demographics, diagnosis of pneumoconiosis, stage of pneumoconiosis, pulmonary function and medical expense were collected through questionnaire surveys, and the quality of life was measured using a Chinese version of the Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). The quality of life was descriptively analyzed among patients with occupational pneumoconiosis by disease stage, pulmonary function, expense for disease diagnosis and treatment and educational level. Results: A total of 244 patients with occupational pneumoconiosis were enrolled, including 225 men (92.21%). The participants had a mean age of (75.20±9.42) years, and mean duration from dust contact to pneumoconiosis onset of (13.11±9.89) years. The scores for physical functioning, role-physical, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, role-emotional, and mental health were (64.03±31.22), (45.14±44.22), (56.34±26.60), (40.80±19.80), (59.14±17.35), (68.41±19.67), (47.03±44.08) and (61.15±17.06) points among patients with occupational pneumoconiosis, which were all lower than the national constant (P<0.05). Lower scores were measured for physical functioning [(31.17±23.40) points], bodily pain [(45.21±19.50) points] and vitality [(47.00±20.70) points] among patients with stage Ⅲ occupational pneumoconiosis, for physical functioning [(32.27±24.24) points], role-physical [(12.88±30.70) points], bodily pain [(37.44±20.43) points], general health [(14.76±17.17) points], vitality [(38.79±19.33) points], social functioning [(53.33±17.08) points], role-emotional [(9.09±26.71) points], and mental health [(53.21±17.25) points] among occupational pneumoconiosis patients with severe pulmonary function damages, and for physical functioning [(30.97±27.40) points], bodily pain [(37.77±24.34) points], general health [(19.10±18.62) points], vitality [(38.39±23.78) points], social functioning [(55.89±21.00) points] and mental health [(55.35±20.35) points] among occupational pneumoconiosis patients that had personal payments for pneumoconiosis diagnosis and treatment expenses exceeding 30% of annual household incomes, while higher scores were measured for physical functioning [(66.36±17.33) points] and role-physical [(59.09±45.10) points] among occupational pneumoconiosis patients with an educational level of high school and above (all P<0.05). Conclusions The quality of life was low among occupational pneumoconiosis patients in Jinhua City from 2009 to 2021. Stage of pneumoconiosis, pulmonary function, medical expenses and educational level were identified as factors affecting the quality of life among occupational pneumoconiosis patients in Jinhua City.

Objective To investigate the reproductive endocrine status of women with epilepsy at childbearing age and to systematically analyze the clinical features of reproductive endocrine disorders,especially polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS),to facilitate early detection and timely intervention.Methods In this study,scoring of anthropometry and physical signs,menstrul assessment,examination of sex hormone and pelvic ultrasound in women with epilepsy at childbearing age were performed,and the data such as overweight,central obesity,oligo/amenorrhea,luteinizing hormone (LH)/follicule-stimulating hormone (FSH),hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovary (PCO) were collected. The characteristics of their reproductive endocrine hormone disorders were analyzed statistically. Results The age of these patients was (22. 5 ± 7.0 ) years,and women younger than 30 years old and at their peak fertility accounted for 84. 89%. The prevalence rate of PCOS in women with epilepsy at childbearing age (12. 75% ) was significantly higher than that of ordinary women at childbearing age (7.2%) in China.Highly specific indicators for PCOS were hyperandrogenism (100%),LH/FSH ＞ 2 (93%) and oligo/amenorrhea (90%),whilst the highly sensitive indicators for PCOS were PCO (92%), oligo/amenorrhea (85%) and hyperandrogenism (54%). This study revealed statistically significant difference in LH,LH/FSH and testosterone (T) between PCOS group (LH: (10.24 ± 6.92) IU/L; LH/FSH;(2.20 ± 1.16);T: ( 1.07 ± 0. 35) ng/ml) and non-PCOS group ( LH: (4. 16 ± 2.62 ) IU/L; LH/FSH:( 0. 87 ± 0. 56 );T: (0. 46 ±0. 25) ng/ml,t = -3. 899,-4. 240 and -4. 918 respectively,all P ＜0. 01 ). Conclusions Hormone indices are objective indicators for the diagnosis of PCOS. In clinical practice,attention should be paid to height,weight,abodominal circumference,menstrul history and ultrasound examination of the ovary in women with epilepsy.When reproductive endocrine hormone disorders are suspected from clinical features,the sex hormones (T,LH,and FSH ) should be checked to allow timely detection and early interventions.

Objective To investigate the key technical points of microvascular decompression (MVD)for the treatment of primary glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN)and its efficacy. Methods From July 2011 to October 2016,18 consecutive patients with primary GPN treated with MVD at the Department of Neurosurgery,Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University were enrolled retrospectively. All patients received magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)examination before procedure. The anatomical relationship between glossopharyngeal nerve / vagus nerve and peripheral blood vessels were identified. Seventeen of them were treated via suboccipital retrosigmoid approach,one were treated via far lateral approach. None of the patients were treated with nerve root rhizotomy. Results Eighteen patients had paroxysmal severe pain in tongue,pharynx,tonsil or deep ear canal and other parts before procedure. Preoperative MRA indicated and confirmed in the surgery that the offending vessels were the trunks or their branches of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery in this group of patients. During the operation,the offending vessels were removed from the out brainstem areas of the glossopharyngeal nerves and vagus nerves under the direct vision in order to ensure that the blood vessels and nerves no longer contacted with each other. There were no complications, such as disability and death,cerebrospinal fluid leakage,and intracranial infection. All the patients were followed up after procedure;the mean follow-up period was 1-62 months. The symptom of pain disappeared completely in 17 of them. The Numberical Rating Scale (NRS)score for pain were 0. The pain in one patient was not relieved. The NRS score was 8 at discharge;it was the same as before procedure. Three patients had mild hoarseness,throat discomfort after procedure. They were relieved gradually in the follow-up period. Conclusion MVD is a safe and effective method for the treatment of GPN. Posterior inferior cerebellar artery is the most common offending artery. Preoperative imaging examination and clear decompression during the procedure are very important. The cutting off of glossopharyngeal nerves and vagus nerves needs to be handled with care.

Objective To investigate the imaging features of alar ligament and its extent, and provide the basis forclinical treatment.Methods 3.0 T superconducting MRI was used to scan the alar ligament with high resolution PDWI sequence (Proton density weighted imaging, PDWI)in 109 patients of emergency admissions due to head and neck trauma. Based on imaging features, ligamentous injury was classified into three degrees(Ⅰ to Ⅲ degrees).Patients with Ⅰ degree ligamentous injury were treated conservatively, andⅡtoⅢdegree injury patients were treated with surgery, then follow-up was performed with MRI for the recovery of ligaments and clinical evaluation for symptoms (6 months follow-up period). Results High-resolution PDWI showed 78 patients with no ligament injury.On follow-up, patients recovered well (atlantoaxial joint motor function and clinical symptoms). Thirty one patients had alar ligament injury in varying degrees, of which 18 patients had grade Ⅰ injury, nine patients had degree Ⅱinjury, and four patients had degreeⅢinjury .All gradeⅠinjury patients received conservative treatment. Follow-up of patients showed good recovery, MR revealed the lesions shrank in varying degrees or disappear.
Six gradeⅡinjury patients had surgical treatment, and three received conservative treatment. On follow-up, seven patients had a good recovery, two patients underwent surgical treatment within 3 months after injury and recovered well.Three gradeⅢpatients treated by surgery, and all with good recovery postoperative, and a patient died of respiratory failure. Conclusions High resolution PDWI is an effective tool to evaluate the extent of the alar ligament injury. Grade Ⅰ ligamentous injury patients treated conservatively can achieve good results, GradeⅡandⅢligamentous injury patients should receive surgical treatment early.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To investigate the effect of triptolide on the inhibition of microglial activation in 1-methyl-4-phenyl pyridinium ( MPP+)-induced hemiparkinson disease rats.METHODS:The rat model of Parkinson disease was es-tablished by intranigral injection of MPP +.The rats were randomly divided into sham group, MPP+group, triptolide group and vehicle group.The survival of dopaminergic neurons was detected by the immunofluorescence of tyrosine hydroxylase ( TH) in the substantia nigra ( SN) .The activation of microglia was determined by immunofluorescence of OX-42 ( micro-glia marker) in the SN.The expression of chemokine receptor CX3CR1 in SN was measured by Western blotting.RE-SULTS:Intranigral injection of MPP+increased the fluorescence intensity of the microglial marker, and promoted DA neu-ron degenerative death.Immunohistological analysis showed that the OX-42 density was decreased (P<0.01) and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) positive neurons were increased in the triptolide group (P<0.01).The expression of CX3CR1 was lower in triptolide group than that in model group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Triptolide may improve PA neurons func-tion in MPP+-induced rats through inhibiting CX3CR1 expression and microglial activation.
