OBJECTIVE:
To explore the therapeutic effects of endoscopic sinus surgery on symptoms and quality of life of patients with chronic rhino-sinusitis (CRS).
METHODS:
A survey of symptoms and quality of life was conducted using Sino-nasal Outcome Test-20 (SNOT-20) questionnaire with 76 patients before and after endoscopic sinus surgery. The overall effect of endoscopic sinus surgery on CRS was subjectively self-evaluated by patient.
RESULTS:
After 6 months following-up, the total SNOT-20 score of patients was significantly decreased from the baseline (P<0.001). The most important 5-items were found to be "thick nasal discharge", "need to blow nose", "dizziness", "frontal pain", and "lack of a good sleep". Other items, related to sleep and emotion, were also significantly improved: the proportion of responses of "much improved", "improved" and "no-improved" were 56.3%, 33.3%, 10.4%, respectively.
CONCLUSION
Endoscopic sinus surgery demonstrated positive effects on symptoms and quality of life of CRS patients.

Objective To investigate the relationship between Ct value of mice liver and postmortem interval (PMI) under various ambient temperatures. Methods mice were stored at 10℃, 15℃, 20℃, 25℃ and 30℃ after execution, and total RNA was extracted from mice liver every 6 hours (PMI 6h to 72h). The levels of 18s rRNA were examined using real-time PCR. The results were expressed by cycle threshold (Ct) value to explore relationship between PMI and Ct value, and the interpolation functions were established to estimate PMI. Results In each group, Ct value increased with PMI increased. Surface equation was obtained after interpolation analysis on temperature range 10℃~30℃. The three-variable quintic surface equation was f(x, y)=-426.9+30.82x+44.48y-1.297x2-1.837xy-1.388y2+0.034 38x3+0.038 17x2y+0.038 67xy2+0.028 77y3-0.000 612 9x4-3.897e-7x3y-0.001 223x2y2+0.000 256 6xy3-0.000 537 4y4+3.606e-6x5-2.846e-6x4y+1.009e-5x3y2-3.439e-6x2y3-2.556e-7xy4+2.664e-6y5(r2=0.999 4). Conclusion The rule of Ct value changes at ambient temperature complied with three-variable quintic surface equation distribution. Measurement of interpolation function may be used for PMI estimation at ambient temperature.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2011;25(17):774-776
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate aeroallergen spectrum and allergy positive rates of patients with child allergic rhinitis and analyze its related factors.
METHOD:
Skin prick test was carried out in 562 cases with child allergic rhinitis using 13 inhaled allergens, and detailed history was collected in all cases.
RESULT:
Four hundred and fifty-seven (81.3%) of 562 cases showed positive reaction to at least one allergen out of 13 allergens. The most common allergens found in patients was Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, and positive reaction was 93.1% in child allergic rhinitis, followed by tropical mite, Periplaneta americana, Blattella germanica and dog hair. The pollen allergen, most common in American and European, was pretty rare in this study. The prevalence of child allergic rhinitis was significantly higher in urban than in rural (P<0.01). There was no adverse effect appeared in children with allergic rhinitis underwent skin prick test.
CONCLUSION
The major allergen of allergic rhinitis is mite for child allergic rhinitis, and relates to housing enviroment. Most of patients with child allergic rhinitis can be treated by the mite specific immunotherapy. The skin prick test is a safe technique for diagnosis of children with allergic rhinitis.

Purpose:
From the perspective of positive psychology, our study aimed to explore depressive symptomsand psychological well-being among Chinese nurses, as well as analyze the impacts of characterstrengths, self-efficacy and social support on the mental health of nurses.
Methods:
A cross-sectional and descriptive design using five self-reported questionnaires was used toinvestigate a cohort of 4238 nurses during 2018. A structural equation modeling analysis was used toverify a hypothetical model linking character strengths, self-efficacy, social support, depressive symptoms, and psychological well-being.
Results:
The prevalence of depression among this cohort of Chinese nurses was 58.1%. The mean scoresfor caring, inquisitiveness, and self-control were 19.93 (SD = 2.82), 15.94 (SD = 3.00), and 16.34(SD = 2.95), respectively. The hypothesized model was a good fit of the data (x2/df = 1.77, p = .183, rootmean square error of approximation = 0.04, goodness of fit index = 1.00, comparative fit index = 1.00,TuckereLewis index = 1.00). Except for the path from self-control to depression, the other hypotheticalpaths investigated were statistically significant.
Conclusion
Character strengths were directly and positively associated with psychological well-being.Inquisitiveness was the strongest direct protective factor for depression. In addition, characterstrengths indirectly alleviated depression and increased psychological well-being through mediatingvariables of social support and self-efficacy. This study should alert nurse managers that more attentionshould be paid to the character strengths and mental health of nurses. This study provides evidence forinterventions based on character strengths as a management strategy to support the mental health ofnurses.
