1.LOW-PROTEIN DIET AND KIDNEY FUNCTION IN NON-INSULIN-DEPENDENT DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY

This study tried to investigate the change in the glomerular filtration rate in initiation of a low-protein diet (LPD) in the elderly patients with diabetic nephropathy, and to elucidate whether this initial phenomenon is reversible or irreversible. 24 non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients with renal failure patients were randomized to LPDⅠgroup (0.6g ?kg -1?24h -1), LPDⅡgroup (0.8g?kg -1?24h -1), and NPD group for four weeks (phaseⅠ). Between weeks 4 and 8, all patients received NPS (phaseⅡ). Dietary protein intake (g?kg -1?24h -1), SCr, Ccr, albuminuria excretion rate and arterial blood pressure were measured at baseline and after four- and eight-weeks of follow-up, respectively. During phaseⅠ, a significant decline in dietary protein intake, Ccr, Scr, and albuminuria excretion rate were observed in the LPDⅠgroup and LPDⅡgroup. There was not any change in the NPD group. Conversely, during phase Ⅱ, with a significant increase in dietary protein intake, Ccr, Scr and albuminuria excretion rate increased in LPDⅠ group and LPD Ⅱ group compared with the NPD group. It suggested that dietary protein restriction for four weeks induces a reversible decline in GFR, Scr and albuminuria excretion rate in noinsulin-dependent diabetic nephropathy patients with renal failure, whereas systemic blood pressure remains unchanged.

Advances in clinical transformation research has facilitated discovery of a number of novel somatic mutations and aberrant intracellular signaling pathways involved in malignant proliferative B-cell lymphoma.Meanwhile,small molecular inhibitors targeting those mutation genes or signaling pathways have also been shown to be effective in treating relapsed and refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.This paper reviewed important discoveries in clinical transformation research in lymphoma field in 2013.
5.Expression of miR-106 a in fresh and paraffin-embedded tissues and in precancerous lesions of gastric cancer

Purpose To investigate the comparison of miR-106a in fresh and paraffin-embedded tissues and its expression in precan-cerous 1esions of gastric cancer. Methods Human gastric cancer tissues inc1uding 30 coup1es of fresh and 40 coup1es of paraffin-em-bedded samp1es were co11ected,quantitative rea1-time PCR was used to detect the expression of miR-106a in these two samp1es. Anoth-er paraffin-embedded samp1es inc1uding 20 cases of precancerous 1esions and 40 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma were a1so co11ected,in situ hybridization was used to assess the expression of miR-106a in these stages. Results The re1ative expression of miR-106a in fresh tissues was 3. 25 ± 1. 99,in paraffin-embedded tissues was 3. 18 ± 2. 14,indicating that the expression of miR-106a in these two sam-p1es has no statistica1 difference(P>0. 05),corre1ation ana1ysis showed that there was a significant corre1ation of miR-106a expression in these two samp1es(rs =0. 998,P<0. 001). The expression of miR-106a was detected in the stage of precancerous 1esions with the positive rate was 70%. The positive signa1s were 1ocated in dysp1astic epithe1ia1 ce11s and appeared as dark b1ue fine granu1es. The positive rate of miR-106a in gastric cancer tissues was 87. 5% and the frequency and extent increased and enhanced compared with pre-cancerous 1esions. Conclusion miR-106a has significant corre1ation in gastric cancer fresh tissues and paraffin-embedded tissues. Detection of miR-106a with paraffin tissues and its ear1y changes in prema1ignant 1esions can provide va1uab1e information for the ear1y diagnosis of gastric cancer.
6.Genome-wide association studies of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Recently, genome-wide association study (GWAS)has achieved great success in illuminating genetic basis of complex diseases. GWAS of type 2 diabetes is regarded as a paradigm of genetic dissection of complex human diseases, which are caused by both genetic and environmental factors. Some basic facts of GWAS,as well as implementation of GWAS in type 2 diabetes, are reviewed in this article.
7.Transorbitozygomatic microsurgery for cavernous sinus tumors

Objective To explore the microsurgical skills and clinical value of transorbitozygomatic approach for cavernous sinus tumors. Methods A retrospective research was given to 19 patients with cavernous sinus tumors microsurgically treated by transorbitozygomatic approach.Their tumors pathological types,clinic symptoms,characteristic images,surgical approach,surgical skills and postoperative complications were systemically analyzed. Results Total removal of the tumor was achieved in 17 cases and subtotal removal in 2 cases.38 percent of cranial nerves deficit was improved,43 percent of cranial nerves symptoms did not change,and 19 percent of cranial nerves palsies worsened.New cranial nerves symptoms occurred in 5 cases.No other severe complications or death occurred in all cases. Conclusion Transorbitozygomatic approach can preferably expose and totally resect cavernous sinus tumors.Knowing macro-micro anatomy of this approach,understanding the pathological-anatomic relationships betweem tumor and cavernous sinus,having practiced microsurgical skills are the linchpins to resect the tumor totally and protect cranial nerves effectivctively.
8.Progression of recombinant adenovirus mediated herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase for the treatment of liver cancer

Liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in China.The efficacy of traditional treatment for liver cancer is unsatisfactory,and the prognosis of the patients is poor.In recent 10 years,with the development of the molecular biological techniques,genetic therapy has become a new and promising approach for liver cancer.Of which,adenovirus mediated herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (ADV-tk) for the treatment of liver cancer is widely applied.The enzyme secreted by ADV-tk transformed the prodrug gancyclovir (GCV) to the cytotoxic agents and thus to kill the liver cancer cells.The results of multiple animal and clinical experiments showed that ADV-tk/GCV is effective for the treatment of liver cancer.In this article,the recent progress of ADV-tk/GCV in the treatment of liver cancer was reviewed.
