OBJECTIVE: To analyze the principle mechanism of the arcus plantaris and its clinical application. METHODS: The states of forces sustained by the arcus plantaris were analyzed and calculated according to the mechanism of the quadratic parabolic arch. RESULTS: The aponeurosis plantaris corresponded to the pull rod of the arcus plantaris. The medial and lateral longitudinal arches formed by the pedal bones were stable with the rod, but unstable without the rod. In the latter condition, on loading, the force sustained by the parabolic arch became a force sustained by a simple beam, and the arcus plantaris tended to disappear and to be flattened. Clinically, 240 feet with talipes equinus were treated with triple arthrodesis. In 34 out of the reexamined 156 feet, the aponeurosis plantaris was cut in addition to the triple arthrodesis and was immobilized with cast for 3 months. One or two years later, their arcus plantaris disappeared, pain developed when walking, and some of them walked with the midtarsal joint against the ground. Then, the triple arthrodesis and shortening of the aponeurosis plantaris were applied on 18 cases, and osteotomy of the calcaneus and reconstruction of the aponeurosis plantaris were made on 10 cases and satisfactory effects were obtained. CONCLUSIONS: In order to achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects of the triple arthrodesis, we should reestablish the arcus plantaris and accurately treat the aponeurosis plantaris for the balance of the surrounding muscle force.
5.A historical evaluation of Chinese tongue diagnosis in the treatment of septicemic plague in the pre-antibiotic era, and as a new direction for revolutionary clinical research applications.
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2018;16(3):141-146
Chinese tongue diagnosis was initially developed to quickly and efficiently diagnose and prescribe medicine, while at the same time allowing the doctor to have minimal contact with the patient. At the time of its compiling, the spread of Yersinia pestis, often causing septicaemia and gangrene of the extremities, may have discouraged doctors to come in direct contact with their patients and take the pulse. However, in recent decades, modern developments in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the spread of antibiotics in conjunction with the advancements of microbiology, have overshadowed the original purpose of this methodology. Nevertheless, the fast approaching post-antibiotic era and the development of artificial intelligence may hold new applications for tongue diagnosis. This article focuses on the historical development of what is the world's earliest tongue diagnosis monograph, and discusses the directions that such knowledge may be used in future clinical research.

Objective To explore the efficacy of a novel detection technique of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) to identify benign and malignant lung nodules. Methods Nanomagnetic CTC detection based on polypeptide with epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-specific recognition was performed on enrolled patients with pulmonary nodules. There were 73 patients including 48 patients with malignant lesions as a malignant group and 25 patients with benign lesion as a benign group. There were 13 males and 35 females at age of 57.0±11.9 years in the malignant group and 11 males and 14 females at age of 53.1±13.2 years in the benign group. e calculated the differential diagnostic efficacy of CTC count, and conducted subgroup analysis according to the consolidation-tumor ratio, while compared with PET/CT on the efficacy. Results CTC count of the malignant group was significantly higher than that of the benign group (0.50/ml vs. 0.00/ml, P<0.05). Subgroup analysis according to consolidation tumor ratio (CTR) revealed that the difference was statistically significant in pure ground glass (pGGO) nodules 1.00/ml vs. 0.00/ml, P<0.05), but not in part-solid or pure solid nodules. For pGGO nodules, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of CTC count was 0.833, which was significantly higher than that of maximum of standardized uptake value (SUVmax) (P<0.001). Its sensitivity and specificity was 80.0% and 83.3%, respectively. Conclusion The peptide-based nanomagnetic CTC detection system can differentiate malignant tumor and benign lesions in pulmonary nodules presented as pGGO. It is of great clinical potential as a noninvasive, nonradiating method to identify malignancies in pulmonary nodules.
