Objective To investigate the sanitary condition in the inside and outside of a metro station in Guangzhou, and to find the environmental risk factors which can affect the health of staffs of the metro station. Methods To monitor the level of TVOC, inhalable particles, carbon monoxide, benzene, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde and total bacterial count in the air of public places metro hall, metro platform,facilities rooms, tunnel gates, new flow entrances and entrances of subway station respectively in the afternoon and evening, Feb 15, 2006. Results The rate of exceeding standard limit of the pollutants in metro station in the evening was higher than that in the afternoon, and the main items exceeded the limit were inhalable particles, benzene and carbon monoxide, especially in the evening. The level of inhalable particles in the metro hall and facilities rooms both exceeded standard limit. Objective To know the sanitary situation of urban river surge and a certain section of Zhujiang River and whether Guangzhou reach of Zhujiang River will be taken as a swimming region. Methods From July 1 to July 15,2007,the period of swim,the spring-tide water and ebb-tide water at urban river surge and a certain section were sampled and tested. 54 water sample at urban river surge and 40 at a certain section,the items included pH value,turbidity,dissolved oxygen,chemical oxygen demand, amino-nitrogen and heat-resistant coliform. Results The results indicated that pH value and chemical oxygen demand of the water at urban river surge and a certain section were eligible,but amino-nitrogen,dissolved oxygen and heat-resistant coliform were not eligible,the turbidity was high,the water quality did not meet the Hygienic Standard for Swimming Place (GB 9667-1996). Objective To investigate the role of survivin and P53 in apoptosis of gastric adeno- carcinoma,as well as its relationship with the clinicopathologic features and the prognosis.Methods The gas- tric tissue microarrays were composed of those from 100 cases of gastric cancer and 30 controls.At these tissue microarrays,expressions of survivin and P53 were investigated immunohistochemically,and tumor cell apoptosis index was examined by TUNEL method.Of the 100 cases,47 cases were followed-up from 14 months to 13 years,in which the survival was analyzed.Results Two paraffin-embedded gastric carcinoma tissue micro- arrays were successfully constructed,including 114 and 116 tissue spots,respectively.Immunohistochemical analysis showed that survivin was expressed in 78 cases (78%).No expression of survivin was detected in control tissue (P0.05).In the 47 cases with followed-up data,univariant analysis revealed that the survival was correlated with invading of vessel and nerve,TNM stages,and expression of survivin.The histological grades and expression of P53 were not related to prognosis.However,Cox stepwise proportional hazards analysis showed that only TNM staging and survivin status retained significant independently in prospecting prognosis.Conclusions The expression of survivin was associated with the pathologic features,TNM stages and prognosis in gastric carcinoma,indicating that overex- pression of survivin may be a poor prognosis factor for gastric carcinoma.

The composition, nutritional evaluation and clinical trials of a nutritionally complete enteral preparation were presented. It was composed of glucose oligosaccharides, emulsified fat, solubilized proteins, twelve vitamins, certain minerals and trace elements. Rats were forced to negative nitrogen balance by means of protein-free diet. Body weight and serum total protein declined accordingly. When the feed was changed to this preparation in one group, and a routine one with equal nitrogen content in another, nitrogen balance was turned to positive, body weight increased, serum total protein returned to normal in both groups. The increments of nitrogen balance and body weight were, however, higher significantly in the group fed with the preparation than that with routine diet. The biological value, net protein utilization and protein efficiency ratio of the solubilized proteins in the preparation were higher than casein in the routine feed. Twenty surgical patients having the preparation as the sole source of nutrients could take around 8.37MJ(2000 kcal)a day. Nitrogen balance turned from negative to positive in an average time of 3.6 days. Body weight, serum total protein, serum albumin were all increased. Fourty patients took this as dietary supplement and the similar results were observed too. Clinical effects were excellent in all cases, especially for healing of surgical wounds and fistula. Incidence of diarrhea was 3.3%.

Since Hosobuchi first found that spinal cord stimulation had the effect of significantly increasing cerebral blood flow (CBF) more than two decades ago, spinal cord stimulation had attracted wide attention in the field of treating cerebral ischemia. A large number of animal and clinical studies have been performed in this field, which make it another research focus following thrombolysis and interventional therapy. This article reviews the research history, mechanisms, and current status of clinical applications of spinal cord stimulation in cerebral ischemia protection.

Objective To investigate the impact of alterations within the space of Disse micro- environment on the migration of hepatic stellate cells(HSC) during the process of liver fibrosis,and to ex plore the novel mechanism of liver fibrosis from the view of cell migration.Methods A modified in vitro Boyden chamber system to partially mimic in vivo microenvironment of Disse space of normal and liver fibrosis was employed.The effects of fibrogenetic growth factors on the migration of HSC in liver fibrosis were observed via cell migration and cell proliferation experiments.Results Enhanced platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF)-BB,transforming growth factor(TGF)-?1 and/or epithelial growth factor(EGF) in liver fibrosis resulted in an increase in migratory capacity of activated HSC.The enhanced migration of HSCs induced by PDGF-BB was partially associated with their increased proliferation,while,TGF-?1 or EGF-induced migration was proliferation independent.The elevation of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) or vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)during liver fibrosis had no effect on the migration of HSCs.Conclusions The study provides valuable insights into the role of space of Disse microenvironment in regulating HSC migratory behavior.TGF-?1,PDGF-BB and EGF,which increased in liver fibrosis, could induce the migration of activated HSC.However,bFGF or VEGF has no such kind of effect,al- though they also increased during liver fibrosis.

OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of HP-β-CD on solubility of 1,8-oxido-p-menthane in volatile oil of magnoliae flos,and optimize the extraction technology of Xinzhi nasal drops. METHODS:Steam distillation method was adopted to extract the volatile oil in magnoliae flos. Using the content of 1,8-oxido-p-menthane in volatile oil of magnoliae flos as index,HPLC was adopted to determine the effects of HP-β-CD with different concentration on solubility of 1,8-oxido-p-menthane in volatile oil of magnoliae flos. Using the comprehensive scores of imperatorin and extract yield as indexes,orthogonal test was used to optimize the amount of ethanol,volume fraction and extraction time in extraction technology of Xinzhi nasal drops. Verification test was car-ried out. RESULTS:50% HP-β-CD aqueous solution can improve the solubility of 1,8-oxido-p-menthane to 7.6 times. The optimal extraction technology of Xinzhi nasal drops was as follow as 10-fold 80% ethanol,extracting twice,1 h every time. In verification test,the average content of imperatorin was 0.078%(RSD=2.01%,n=3),and extract yield was 10.80%(RSD=1.85%,n=3). CONCLUSIONS:HP-β-CD shows good solubilization effect on the 1,8-oxido-p-menthane in volatile oil of magnoliae flos,and the optimized extration technology for Xinzhi nasal drops is feasible.
