The article tries to discuss the usage of "modthod of strengthening qi" in treating minimal residual leukemia(MRL). We believe that the mechanisms for MRI are qi weakness and pathogenic factors staying in yinfen. By using the method of strengthening qi, we hope to achieve the effects of regulating yin and yang, qi and blood, and physiological functions of visceras and meridians, and enhance body immunity. Thus, we can prevent and treat MRL and resist tumor indirectly.

AIM To investigate the effects of honokiol on ischemic neurological deficiency and on the scavenging ability of ischemia reperfusion (I-R) brain tissue for reactive oxygen species (ROS). METHODSCerebral ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in rats. I-R in mice were induced by blood stream pause in bilateral common carotid arteries for 30 min and reperfusion for 30 min. The activities of ROS scavenging enzymes were determined with colorimetric methods. RESULTS Intravenous honokiol in 5-50 μg·kg-1 significantly decreased the neurological deficiency score, and diminished cerebral infarction volume in rats. In I-R brain tissue of mice, intravenous honokiol in 7-70 μg·kg-1 evidently enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and peroxidase, and markedly lowered lipid peroxidative product malondialdehyde content. Moreover honokiol significantly increased Na+-K+-ATPase activity in I-R brain tissue. CONCLUSION Honokiol ameliorates the neurological deficiency behavior and diminishes infarction volume in MCAO rats; and enhances cerebral scavenging ability for ROS and Na+-K+-ATPase activity in cerebral I-R mice. It is indicated that honokiol is a protective agent for cerebral ischemia and I-R.

Objective To compare the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) with that of laparoscopic ultrasonography (LUS) in localization diagnosis of insulinoma. Methods Thirty-three patients with insulinoma, who received operation, were retrospectively reviewed. All cases were examined by both CEUS and LUS before the tumor removed. Both imaging modalities in diagnosis of insulinoma were analyzed. Results By this study the sensitivity and accuracy of CEUS were 92.31% and 90.0% respectively. Those of LUS were consistent with pathologic findings completely. The accuracy of CEUS was not different with that of LUS (χ2 = 4.21, P = 0. 04). Conclusions CEUS can be used for location diagnosis of insulinoma. For the patients expecting laparoscopic treatment, combination of CEUS with LUS will be suggested before insulinoma is removed.
