BACKGROUND:The preliminary findings confirm that bone marrow mesenchymal stem celltransplantation is safe and effective in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, but its exact mechanism is unclear. There are few studies addressing the survival status of transplanted stem cells and its acting timing.
OBJECTIVE:To study the survival of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells transplanted into the infracted myocardium. METHODS:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were cultured using density gradient centrifugation. Eighty rat models of myocardial infarction were prepared. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were injected via a microsyringe at four sites around the infarcted region at 14 days after modeling. Then, 70 rats with living cells were selected for detecting the survival of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells at days 3, 5, 7, 10, 20, 28 after transplantation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Under ×400 visual field, the number of Brdu-positive bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was (36±12) at 3 days posttranplantation, (33±13) at 5 days, (28±9) at 7 days, (15±5) at 10 days, (5±3) at 14 days, 0 at 20 days, and 0 at 28 days, showing a overal downward trend after transplantation. The number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was negatively correlated with transplant days (P<0.01, r=-0.47). The number of cells decreased most significantly within 1 week after transplantation, and then decreased to 0 at 20 days. These findings indicate that transplanted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in the myocardium cannot survive for a long term and also cannot be transformed into myocardial tissue.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of single administration of mercury- containing preparation Jiuyi Dan (calcined gypsum-Shengdan 9: 1) and Shengdan on acute toxicity of rabbits, in order to assess the safety of tested drugs.
METHODThe rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups: the calcined gypsum group (excipient control), the Jiuyi Dan group, the 90 mg Shengdan group and the 180 mg Shengdan group. After 270 mg of calcined gypsum, 300 mg of Jiuyi Dan, 90 mg of Shengdan, and 180 mg of Shengdan were used on the surface of wounds (5 cm x 5 cm) on two sides of rabbit back for 5 h, the surfaces of wound were washed by water. The bloods were taken from the rabbit hearts before and after the drug administration for 24 h, 72 h, 7 d and 14 d for determining Hg level in blood and liver & kidney function indicators (ALT, AST, CREAT, and BUN). The rabbits were dissected after the drugs treatment for 14 d, and pathological tests were made for their livers and kidneys.
RESULTCompared with the calcined gypsum group, the 90 mg Shengdan group and the 180 mg Shengdan group showed significant increase (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05), as evidenced by increase in CREAT for 24 h and 72 h and increase in BUN for 24 h and on 7 d. AST is significantly increased as well (P < 0.01) for 24 h and 72 h compared to that of the group before drug treatment. The Hg level in blood was significantly enhanced (P < 0.01) after the rabbits were administrated with drugs for 24 h to 72 h. The pathological changes in livers and kidneys of rabbits were observed in the two doses of Shengdan treatment groups.
CONCLUSIONThe Hg blood levels were increased significantly in an obvious dose-effect relationship in all drugs treatment groups. Liver & kidney function indicators were influenced by Shengdan treatment to some extent. Meanwhile, pathological changes in rabbit livers and kidneys were also caused by Shengdan, while Jiuyi Dan has no significantly effect on livers and kidneys.

Journal of Practical Radiology 2019;35(6):869-872
Objective To explore the imaging characteristics and make the differential diagnosis of intraspinal extramedullary epidural lesions. Methods 23 cases with intraspinal extramedullary epidural lesions confirmed by puncture or surgical pathology were selected for retrospective analysis of the lesion morphology,MRI signs and the relationship between the lesion and surrounding tissues. Results Intraspinal extramedullary epidural lesions were more often located at thoracic spinal canal. The shapes of lesions were always various. The malignant tumors were irregular. It could damage the adjacent bone and grew surrounding the spinal cord.Leaping growth and multiple vertebral involvements could be seen in metastasis. The complex components of lesions were related to heterogeneous signal intensity on MRI,which could be presented with hypoGto hyperGintense on T1 WI and T2 WI.The angiolipoma showed hypoGto hyperGintense on T1 WI,and the hyperGintense signal could be suppressed with fatGsuppressed sequence.Meningioma tended to present with homogeneous signal on both T1 WI and T2 WI, with dural tail on contrast MRI.All of the lesions were moderately or significantly enhanced on contrast MRI.Conclusion Intraspinal extramedullary epidural lesions include a wide range of lesions, and the components of lesions are very complex.Among them, the distinctive MRI characteristics include the lesions containing fat and vascular components, besides malignant lesions invading adjacent tissues.Comprehensive analysis of the shape and signal of lesions,as well as the relationship between lesions, and surrounding structures is very helpful in differential diagnosis of intraspinal extramedullary epidural lesions.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of non-penetrating trabecular surgery combined with nearly 360-degree suture trabeculotomy for the treatment of primary congenital glaucoma (PCG).Methods:An observational case series study was conducted.A total of 29 cases (50 eyes) with PCG, including 21 males (35 eyes) and 8 females (15 eyes), were enrolled in Jiangsu Province Hospital and Nanjing Children's Hospital from January to November, 2019.The age of subjects ranged from 1 month to 4 years, and the median age was 6 months.Non-penetrating trabecular surgery was first performed in order to open the Schlemm canal. The cannulation and nearly 360-degree suture trabeculotomy were then performed with the twisted 6-0 polypropylene suture.Intraocular pressure (IOP), corneal diameter, cup-to-disc ratio (c/d) and complications were recorded preoperatively and 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, and 24 months postoperatively, and the proportion of sutures successfully passed through the Schlemm canal and the success rate of operation were recorded. This study followed the Declaration of Helsinki. The study protocol was approved by an Ethics Committee of The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (No.2019-SR-198). Written informed consent was obtained from the guardian of each subject prior to entering the study cohort. Results:Circumferential cannulation by suture was successfully performed in 90% of the subjects. The Harms trabeculotomy probe was applied in failed cases.Mean IOP was significantly lowered from preoperative (35.0±9.5) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) to (9.9±4.4), (10.0±4.2), (9.7±4.4), (9.0±2.9), (9.4±4.2), (9.3±3.3) and (9.5±3.8) mmHg at postoperative 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months and 24 months, respectively ( F=141.56, P<0.01). Mean corneal diameter was significantly reduced from preoperative (13.7±1.4) mm to (13.3±1.4), (12.9±1.4), (12.8±1.3), (12.7±1.2), (12.6±1.1), (12.6±1.1) and (12.8±0.4) mm at postoperative 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months and 24 months, respectively ( F=4.55, P<0.01). Mean c/d was significantly reduced from preoperative 0.81±0.15 to 0.55±0.22, 0.48±0.23, 0.45±0.22, 0.43±0.21, 0.41±0.20, 0.40±0.21 and 0.31±0.19 at postoperative 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months and 24 months, respectively ( F=21.07, P<0.01). Forty-two eyes (93.3%) achieved complete success and 45 eyes (100%) achieved qualified success at postoperative 12 months. No severe complications were observed during or after surgery. Conclusions:Non-penetrating trabecular surgery combined with nearly 360-degree suture trabeculotomy can effectively treat patients with PCG without any severe complications.

OBJECTIVETo compare the effects between acupuncture with regulating mind and spleen and wes-tern medication for diarrhea irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D).
METHODSEighty-one patients were randomly at the ratio of 2 to 1 assigned into an acupuncture group (54 cases) and a western medication group (27 cases). Acupuncture with regulating mind and spleen was applied in the acupuncture group for 6 weeks at Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 29), Tianshu (ST 25), Zusanli (ST 36), Shangjuxu (ST 37), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and Taichong (LR 3), once every other day, 3 times a week. Pinaverium bromide tablet was used orally in the western medication group for 6 weeks, 50 mg a time, 3 times a day. IBS symptom severity score (IBS-SSS) were observed before and after 1-week, 6-week treatment. Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was applied before and after 6-week treatment. Also, clinical efficacy was evaluated in the two groups.
RESULTSThree patients dropped out in the acupuncture group, and 1 in the western medication group. Except abdominal distension score after 1-week treatment in the western medication group, single scores and total scores of IBS-SSS apparently reduced in the two groups after 1-week and 6-week treatment (<0.01,<0.05). After 1-week treatment, the abdominal pain score of the acupuncture group was obviously lower than that of the western medication group (<0.05). After 6-week treatment, with abdominal pain relief advantage, other results including the number of pain days, defecation satisfaction, life disturbance degree and total score of the acupuncture group were obviously lower than those of the wes-tern medication group (<0.01,<0.05). After 6-week treatment, the PSQI score and its change before and after treatment in the acupuncture group were superior to those in the western medication group (both<0.05). The relief rate and relief plus obvious effective rate in the acupuncture group were higher than those in the western medication group[51.0% (26/51) vs 19.2% (5/26),<0.01; 64.7% (33/51) vs 34.6% (9/26),<0.05].
CONCLUSIONSAcupuncture with regulating mind and spleen for diarrhea irritable bowel syndrome can more effectively relieve abdominal pain than pinaverium bromide tablet at the early stage. Its total effect and single effects are better at the later stage on abdominal pain, seizure frequency, defecation satisfaction, life disturbance, and sleep quality.

AL3810, a molecular dual inhibitor of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR), has earned the permission of phase II clinical trial for tumor treatment by China FDA. As a reversible ATP-competitive inhibitor, AL3810 targets ATP-binding site on intracellular region of VEGFR and FGFR, whereas, AL3810 lacking interplay with extracellular region of receptors rendered deficient blood-brain tumor barrier (BBTB) recognition, poor brain penetration and unsatisfactory anti-glioma efficacy.
