Objective To investigate major causes of chronic diseases and death from 2004 to 2006 in Gang Za district of Nan Tong city. Methods According to ICD-10, the data of diseases were coded and classified. Mortalities were accounted. Results The crude mortality of the whole crowd was for 754.26 / 100 000, and standardized mortality was for 419.47 / 100 000. The crude mortalities of chronic diseases (malignant tumor, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory system, cardiac disease and endocrine system disease) were for 208.97 / 100 000, 151.79 / 100 000, 114.17 / 100 000, 101.38 / 100 000, 16.55 / 100 000, and standardized mortalities were for 77.73/ 100 000, 56.14 / 100 000, 50.28 / 100 000, 9.19 / 100 000. The percent of death was 78.60%. The standardized mortalities of malignant tumor, cerebrovascular disease and endocrine system disease were in the up trend. Conclusions It is clear that malignant tumor, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory system, cardiac disease were the most important causes of death. Health education and effective prevention should be strengthened in order to reduce the mortality of chronic diseases.

Objective To investigate traditional Chinese medical emotional intervention on the cognition function of senile patients after abdominal surgery. Methods Seventy senile patients having elective abdominal operation were randomized into intervention group and control group, 35 cases in each group. The control group received routine peri-operative nursing, and the intervention group was given routine peri-operative nursing and emotional intervention based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. The cognition function was evaluated with mini-mental state examination (MMSE) on preoperative day 1, postoperative day 3 and 7, and serum S100βprotein level was detected before operation and on postoperative day 7. Results (1)Time for recovery from general anesthesia in the intervention group was much shortened as compared with that of the control group(P<0.05). (2)On postoperative day 3, the incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction(POCD) was much lower than that of the control group(P<0 . 0 5), and on postoperative day 7 , the difference of POCD incidence was insignificant between the two groups(P>0.05). (3) On postoperative day 7, serum S-100β protein level in the two groups was increased as compared with that before treatment(P<0.05), but the difference between the two groups was insignificant(P>0.05). Conclusion Traditional Chinese medical emotional intervention has an effect on shortening time for recovery from general anesthesia and decreasing POCD incidence, but has no effect on POCD incidence and serum S100βprotein level on postoperative day 7.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1982;0(03):-
In the past ten years, 52 patients with double-chambered right ventricle (DCRV) were operated on in Xijing Hospital. They constituted 2.2% (52/1881) of all patients with congenital heart diseases. Of them, there were 32 males and 20 females, whose ages ranged from 4.5 to 30 years old. In one patient there was pure DCRV, and the remaining 51 patients DCRV was associated with other congenital cardiac anomalies, in which VSD was the most common (50), followed in order by pulmonary stenosis (6), aortic valve prolapse (4), atrial septal defect (2), and subaortic stenosis (1). The repair of DCRV and other intracardiac defects was done through the right ventricolotomy in 47 cases and through the right ventricolotomy plus atriotomy in 2 cases. In another 2 cases the operation was done via the right atriotomy and 1 case pulmonary arteriotomy, and only VSDs were closed, but DCRVs were missed. The major postoperative complications included cardiac arrhythmia (11) and low output syndrome (8). Three patients died, with the operative mortality of 5.8%. In this series, according to characteristics of the anomalous muscle bundle and its resulting obstruction, we divided 52 case DCRVs into two types: fibromuscular diaphragmatic type (24 cases, 44.7%) and muscular bundle-gap type (28 cases, 55.7%). In both types, there were not only hypertrophied anmalous muscle bundles on the septal side, but also hypertro-phied ventricoinfundibulum fold on the parietal side. In a few cases, the ventricoinfundibulum fold was more hypertrophic than the anomalous muscle bundle on the septal side.

BACKGROUND:The preliminary findings confirm that bone marrow mesenchymal stem celltransplantation is safe and effective in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, but its exact mechanism is unclear. There are few studies addressing the survival status of transplanted stem cells and its acting timing.
OBJECTIVE:To study the survival of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells transplanted into the infracted myocardium. METHODS:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were cultured using density gradient centrifugation. Eighty rat models of myocardial infarction were prepared. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were injected via a microsyringe at four sites around the infarcted region at 14 days after modeling. Then, 70 rats with living cells were selected for detecting the survival of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells at days 3, 5, 7, 10, 20, 28 after transplantation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Under ×400 visual field, the number of Brdu-positive bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was (36±12) at 3 days posttranplantation, (33±13) at 5 days, (28±9) at 7 days, (15±5) at 10 days, (5±3) at 14 days, 0 at 20 days, and 0 at 28 days, showing a overal downward trend after transplantation. The number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was negatively correlated with transplant days (P<0.01, r=-0.47). The number of cells decreased most significantly within 1 week after transplantation, and then decreased to 0 at 20 days. These findings indicate that transplanted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in the myocardium cannot survive for a long term and also cannot be transformed into myocardial tissue.
