1.Observations on the Curative Effect of Multi-needle Shallow Puncture on Simple Obesity
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2007;5(4):241-244
To compare the clinical efficacy of multi-needle shallow puncture with conventional acupuncture for treating simple obesity. Methods: According to the principle of evidencebased medicine, 40 simple obesity patients were randomly allocated to a multi-needle shallow puncture group of 20 cases and a conventional acupuncture group of 20 cases.Treatment was given once daily, 20 times in total. Body weight, standard body weight, body mass index, fat percentage, chest circumference, waist circumference and hip circumference were recorded before and after treatment. The obtained data was analyzed. Results: Body weight and waist circumference significantly changed in both groups after treatment. The curative effect was significantly better in the multi-needle shallow puncture group than in the conventional acupuncture group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Multi-needle shallow puncture has clinically a good effect on simple obesity. Its effect is better than that of conventional acupuncture.

Dermatitis and eczema are allergic relapsing inflammatory skin disorders. The precise mechanisms still are unclear. Experimental animal models are indispensable tools to study the pathogenic mechanisms and test novel therapy. A considerable number of mouse models have been proposed and used to study specific aspects of the disease. This paper summarizes the currently available animal models.

Objective To observe the changes of morphology and biochemical parameters in rats with D-galactose-induced skin ageing. Methods Twenty-six female and male rats were randomly divided into 2 groups. D-galactose group rats were injected subcutaneously with 120 mg?kg-1?d-1 of D-galactose everyday, whereas the control group with normal saline. The rats were sacrificed on days 100. The ageing-related biochemical parameters were detected in the blood and skin, and the cutaneous histopathology was observed. Epidermal thickness and area of elastic fibers were determined quantitatively with imaging analysis system. Results Epidermal thickness and content of elastic fibers were significantly lower in D-galactose group than those in the control group. The loose arrangement of collagen and elastic fibers was evident in D-galactose group. These features of the rats in D-galactose group were similar to those in the ageing skin of human beings. Compared with the control group, the levels of hydroxyproline decreased and malondialdehyde (MDA) increased in the skin of the D-galactose group. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and catalase (CAT) in the whole blood and that of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in erythrocytes were remarkably reduced in the D-galactose group as compared to the control group. Conclusions The rat models with skin ageing are established by subcutaneous injection of 120 mg?kg-1?d-1 of D-galactose once daily for 100 days. The changes of morphologic and biochemical parameters in these models are analogous to those in human skin ageing.

Objective:To introduce the clinical application of the coil-spring utility arch for orthodontic treatment. Methods:A 35-year-old male patient with mild skeletal anterior crossbite was treated by fixed appliance combined with coil-spring utility arch for 16 months. Cephalometric analysis was conducted before and after treatment. Results:After treatment, the patient's appearance was improved, and the cephalometric analysis showed that SNA increased by 2?,SNB decreased by 1?,ANB increased by 3?,U1-NA increased by 1?,L1-NB increased by 3?.Conclusion:Coil-spring utility arch can expand anterior dental arch continuously and stably.
8. Study of steady and unsteady wet steam condensing flows in a turbine stage
Academic Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University 2007;19(2):154-158
Objective: To develop the numerical method for the steady and unsteady wet steam condensing flow in turbine stage. Methods: An Eulerian/Eulerian numerical model is used to describe the spontaneous condensation flow in the steam turbine. For the steady condensing flow computations, the mixing plane model was used. For the unsteady condensing flow computations, the sliding mesh method was used to simulate the rotor-stator interactions. Results: The numerical results showed the obvious differences between non-condensing and condensing flows. The results also showed the unsteadiness effect due to rotor-stator interactions had a deep influence on the formation and growth process of water droplets. Conclusion: The numerical methods presented in this paper are valid for the condensing flow in the turbine stage.

AIM:To investigate the role of imperatorin in reversing the resistance of the PC 9 CD133+cell sub-sets to gefitinib.METHODS:MTT assay was performed to evaluate the viability of PC 9 cells treated with imperatorin and gefitinib. The expression of c-met, activation of caspases and phosphorylation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), PI3K and AKT in the PC9 cells treated with imperatorin and gefitinib were determined by Western blot .The percentage of CD133 +cell subsets population and the apoptotic rate of the PC 9 cells treated with imperatorin and gefitinib were analyzed by flow cytometry .RESULTS:The sensitivity of the PC 9 CD133 +cell subsets to gefitinib was significantly lower than that of the PC9 CD133 -cell subsets.Treatment with gefitinib alone significantly inhibited the protein levels of EGFR /PI3K/AKT in the PC9 CD133 -cell subsets but not the PC 9 CD133 +cell subsets .Treatment with gefitinib alone increased the percentage of CD133 +cell subsets population in the PC9 cells. However, combination of gefitinib with imperatorin signifi-cantly inhibited the enrichment of CD 133 +cell subsets population .Imperatorin down-regulated c-met expression , sugges-ting the c-met was the target of imperatorin in the PC9 CD133 +cell subsets. The results of MTT assay, Western blot analy-sis and flow cytometry indicated that imperatorin increased the gefitinib induced inhibition of PI 3K/AKT protein levels by down-regulating the expression of c-met, which subsequently induced the cleavage of caspases and apoptosis in the PC 9 CD133 +cell subsets.CONCLUSION:Imperatorin increases the sensitivity of lung cancer CD 133 +cell subsets to gefitinib by down-regulating the expression of c-met, and the synergistic anti-tumor effect exists between imperatorin and gefitinib .
