Objective To study the way of measurement of both the thoracic width and height by roentgenography and its clinical significance.Methods The thoracic width and height in 158 healthy people and 30 cases with emphysema on chest plain X-ray films were measured and analysed statistically.The relationship among the width and height of the chest,height and weight of body in healthy people were studied.Results In normal group,the thoracic width and height were 26.59 cm and 23.84 cm in men,24.8 cm and 21.6 cm in women in average,respectively.In emphysema group,the average thoracic width and height were more than 27 cm and 26 cm in men,25 cm and 24 cm in women,respectively.The formulas calculated thoracic width and height relevant to height of body were 10.9403+0.0951 ?height of body and -0.6381+0.1462 ?height of body in men,11.0605+0.0864 ?height of body and -8.6428+0.1907?height of body in women normally.Therefore,the possibility of prompting emphysema was present when the thoracic width and height were more than 1 cm and 3 cm according to above calculating formulas.Conclusion The data of the calculated thoracic width and height based on the formulas mentioned adove are of significant value for diagnosing emphysema with imaging.

Objective To investigate the effect of norepinephrine (NE) on the proliferation and migration capacity of endo‐thelial progenitor cells (EPCs) ,and bone marrow mobilization and to analyze its molecular mechanism .Methods The 8‐week old C57 mice were taken and randomly divided into 3 groups ,5 cases in each group :the blank control group(subcutaneous injection of normal saline without operaion) ,model group(subcutaneous injection of normal saline and ischemia in left lower extremity ) and NE group(subcutaneous injection of NE 100μmol/100 μL and ischemia in left lower extremity) .The limb ischemia model was prepared by adopting the femoral arterial ligation in mouse left lower extremity ,then NE was continuously pumped by the micro‐osmotic pump .The EPCs contents from bone marrow ,peripheral blood and spleen were assayed with the flow cytometric analyzer ;human peripheral blood EPCs were cultured and stimulated by NE .The proliferation and migration capacity ,and the activation situation of Akt and eNOS signal pathway were detected .Results NE could promote the mobilization of bone marrow EPCs in limb ischemia mice ,increased the EPCs quantity of peripheral blood and spleen ,comparing the NE group with the model group ,the EPCs quantity was increased for bone marrow [(3 .271 ± 0 .772)% vs .(1 .320 ± 0 .256)% ] ,peripheral circulation[(0 .261 ± 0 .041)% vs .(0 .110 ± 0 .028)% ] and spleen[(4 .671 ± 0 .345)% vs .(1 .880 ± 0 .0 .381)% ] ,the differences were statistically significant (P<0 .01) .NE could promote the proliferation and migration capacity ,moreover could activate the Akt‐eNOS signal pathway in EPCs with a dose dependent manner .Conclusion NE could promote the proliferation and migration of EPCs and mouse bone marrow mobilization via the Akt‐eNOS signal pathway .

Objective: To investigate the role of aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH-2) for regulating human endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) oxidative stress reaction and its mechanism. Methods: Human EPCs were isolated from peripheral blood of healthy adults and the cells were cultured in 4 groups:①Blank control group,②Alda-1 group, the cells were treated by 1μmol/L Alda-1, a speciifc activator of ALDH-2,③tBHP (10μg/ml) group and④Alda-1 pretreatment+tBHP group. EPCs reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were evaluated by DCFH-DA staining, mitochondrial membrane potentials were detected by JC-1 method, migration capacity was measured by transwell chamber method and the activation of p38 signal pathway was examined by Western blot analysis. Results: Compared with Blank control group, ROS levels in tBHP group and Alda-1 pretreatment+tBHP group were (441.7 ± 24.8) % and (237.4 ± 12.0) %, allP<0.05. In Blank control group, tBHP group and Alda-1 pretreatment+tBHP group, the proportion of EPCs lost their mitochondrial membrane potentials were (5.7 ± 2.1) %, (81.7 ± 3.7) % and (37.4 ± 3.2) % respectively, allP<0.05; the number of EPCs migration were (108 ± 9)/HP, (22 ± 4)/HP and (67 ± 7)/HP respectively, allP<0.05. Compared with Blank control group, the activation of p38 signal pathway increased to (259.1 ± 7.7) % in tBHP group, while it was reduced to (186.4 ± 8.0) % in Alda-1 pretreatment+tBHP group. Conclusion: ALDH-2 could reduce ROS level in human EPCs, it may decrease mitochondrial membrane damage, protect migration which might be related to p38 signal pathway.

The clinical data of 118 patients with bacterial liver abscess admitted to a tertiary hospital from January 2007 to December 2009 were analyzed retrospectively.Etiology study showed that 45.8％(54/118) cases of bacterial liver abscess were cryptogenic,40.7％ (48/118) were biliary source and 13.5％ (16/118) were hematogenous.The positive rate of pus culture was 57.1％ (36/63),among which klebsiella pneumoniae accounted for 72.2％ (26/36).The positive rate of blood culture was 31.2％(20/64) and klebsiella pneumoniae accounted for 95％ (19/20).One hundred and sixteen patients (98.3％) underwent color ultrasound examination with an accuracy rate of 93.2％.84 patients (71.2％)underwent the CT scan with an accuracy rate of 95.3％ and 20 patients underwent MRI with an accuracy rate of 85％.Seventy five patients (63.6％)accepted ultrasound-guided percutaneous aspiration and catheter drainage combined with antibiotic therapy; 40 patients(33.9％)were treated with antibiotics alone.On the discharge 27 patients(22.9％) achieved clinical cure,87 patients (73.7％) were classified as effective,4 patients (3.4％) had no effect and no death in this group of patients.The average length of hospital stay was 16 days.Cryptogenic was the most common cause of bacterial liver abscess,biliary source took the second place.Kleibsiella pneumoniae was the predominant organism.Detailed medical history inquiry,physical examination and assistant examination may increase the accuracy rate of diagnosis.Needle biopsy should be performed if necessary.Ultrasound-guided percutaneous aspiration and catheter drainage combined with antibiotics should be the first-line treatment.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of reduced ghtathione (GSH) pretreatment on inflammatory factors and oxygen free radical in patients during one-lung ventilation (OLV).MethodsThirty patients with lung cancer undergoing lung resection were divided into GSH group(15 cases) and control group ( 15 cases) by random digits table.In GSH group,GSH 30 mg/kg in normal saline 100 ml was infused after induction of anesthesia before OLV,while in control group equal volume of normal saline was infused instead of GSH.Blood samples were collected before induction of anesthesia (T0) and at 30 min(T1),60 min (T2) of OLV and 60 min of two-lung ventilation (T3) and at 2 h after operation(T4) for determination of serum tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α,interleukin(IL)-8 and malonaldehyde(MDA) concentrations and superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity.ResultsThe serum MDA concentrations at T2-T4 were higher than those at T0 in two groups (P＜ 0.05) [GSH group:(3.5 ± 0.6),(3.8 ± 0.8),(4.7 ± 1.1 ),(6.1 ± 1.2),(6.4 ± 0.9) mol/L at T0-T4;control group:(3.7 ±0.5),(4.1 ±0.6),(5.9 ± 1.2),(7.4 ± 1.0),(7.8 ± 1.1) mol/L at T0-T4],but GSH group was lower than control group(P＜ 0.05 ).The serum SOD activity at T2-T4 was lower than that at T0 in control group (P＜ 0.05),and lower than GSH group(P＜ 0.05).The serum TNF-α,IL-8 concentrations at T1-T4 were higher those that at T0 in two groups(P ＜ 0.05 ),the serum TNF- α concentrations at T2-T4 and IL-8 concentrations at T1-T4 in GSH group were lower than those in control group (P ＜0.05).Conclusion Pretreatment with GSH 30 mg/kg can decrease inflammatory response and lipid peroxidation during OLV.

Total 118 patients with pyogenic liver abscess admitted to Zhongshan Hospital were classified into pypgenic liver abscesses of cryptogenic origin (PLAC,n =54),pyogenic liver abscesses of biliary origin (PLAB,n =48) and pyogenic liver abscesses of hemagenous origin (PLAH,n =16)according to the causes.The clinical features of three groups were compared and analyzed.The results showed that no statistically significant difference existed among three groups in clinical manifestation and signs.Compared to PLAB,the abscesses in right lobe of liver were more common in PLAC,diabetes mellitus was more prevalent in PLAC,but the co-existing diseases including chronic liver disease,non biliary malignant tumor and ALP elevation were less in PLAC.Klebsiella pneumoniae was frequently detected in PLAC,but there was no significant difference comparing to other two groups.No significant difference was found among three groups in the choice of therapeutic methods,the course of antibiotics,length of hospital stay and the days from admission to diagnosis.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of ultrasonic microbubble combined with bevacizumab (Avastin) on choroidal neovascularization induced by photocoagulation in rabbits.Methods CNV was induced by photocoagulation with argon laser in 30 rabbits (60 eyes).All of the rabbits underwent fundus fluorecein angiography (FFA) 21 days after photocoagulation;6-8 hours later,3 rabbits were randomly chosen to be executed to having the immunohistochemical examination.Twenty-one days after photocoagulation,27 rabbits were divided randomly into 3 groups:bevacizumb,ultrasonic microbubble+bevacizumb,and control group;each group has 9 rabbits (18 eyes).The rabbits in control group had no interference treatment;while the rats in bevacizumb and ultrasonic microbubble+bevacizumb group underwent injection with bevacizumb or ultrasonic microbubble+bevacizumb respectively.FFA was performed on all of the rabbits 7,14,and 28 days after photocoagulation to observe the inhibition of CNV;immunofluorecence and Western blot were used to detect the expression of VEGF in retina and choroid.Twenty-eight days is the time point to determine the therapeutic efficacy.The expression of VEGF and the results of FFA were the sdandards of the judgement of therapeutic efficacy.Results Proliferaion of CNV to the retinal inner layer and the obvious leakage of fluoresein in the photocoagulation area indicated that the model of CNV was set up successfully.Twenty-eight days after injection,obvious fluorescent leakage was found in the control group,and the average fluorescent leakage in bevacizumab group differed much from the control group(t=16.2952,P<0.05);while the difference between ultrasonic microbubble+bevacizumb group and bevacizumab group was also significant (t=4.7955,P<0.05).At the same time point,the expression of VEGF in bevacizumab group detected by immunofluorecent assay and Western blot differed much from the control group (t=7.0327,9.2596;P<0.05),and the difference of VEGF between ultrasonic microbubble+bevacizumb group and bevacizumab group was significant (t=2.9724,17.1937;P<0.05).this experiment show that ultrasound combined bevacizumab intravitreal injection of the therapeutic effect of CNV superior to other groups(P<0.01).Conclusion Ultrasound microbubble combined with bevacizumab injection may improve the therapeutic effect on CNV by inhibiting the expression of VEGF.

Objective Rereach into the pharmaceutical mechnisms of Ganzhixiao Granule which is used to treat fatty liver. Method Build up fatty cirrhosis-rat models by feeding with high-fat food and alcohol. Contract with Dongbaogantai and observe the influence of Ganzhixiao granule on SOD, MDA and the liver function ferment. Result In the group of Ganzhixiao, the activeness of the liver’s SOD can be increased, while the content of MDA and the activeness of ALT and AST can be decreased, that is much better than Dongbaogantai. Conclusion Ganzhixiao granule has strong effect on fatty cirrhosis, and its mechanism may be concerned with the rat’s liver cell membrane and restraining damaging kuffer cell cytokine.
