Objective To evaluate the efficacy and untoward effects of brucea javanica oil emulsion combined with radiotherapy in the treatment of patients with esophageal cancer. Methods 50 initial treatment patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were randomly assigned to observation group (25 cases) and control group (25 cases). All patients were treated with three dimensional conformal intensity modulated radiation therapy (3D-IMRT) and the radiation dose was 64 Gy/32 times (95 % PTV). The patients in observation group received the treatment of brucea javanica oil emulsion during radiotherapy. The differences between the two groups were compared in respect of the efficacy, the adverse reactions and the quality of life (QOL). Results The effective rate in observation group was 92%(23/25) and it was 68%(17/25) in control group, there was significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 4.500, P= 0.034). The incidence of radiation esophagitis at the level of RTOG2 and above in observation group was 20%(5/25) and it was 60%(15/25) in the control group, there was significant difference between the two groups (χ2= 8.333, P=0.004). The improvement rate of QOL in observation group was 68 % (17/25) and it was 40 % (10/25) in control group, there was significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 3.945, P= 0.047). Conclusion Brucea javanica oil emulsion combined with radiotherapy for the treatment of patients with esophageal cancer can improve the therapeutic effect and QOL,it can also reduce radiation reactions.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2014;(38):6210-6215
BACKGROUND:Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) plays an important role in cellgrowth, proliferation and differentiation. Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), as the main binding protein of IGF1, is involved in the regulation of IGF1.
OBJECTIVE:To attempt to analyze the relation of IGFBP-3 and various diseases, and to explore the potential values of IGFBP-3 in disease diagnosis and risk assessment.
METHODDatabases of PubMed, Science Direct and Wanfang database were retrieved with key words of“insulin-like growth factors 1;IGFBP-3;cancer;growth hormone deficiency;diabetes;osteoporosis”in English and Chinese, respectively, by screening titles and abstracts to search papers related to IGFBP-3 structure and function as wel as relationship of IGFBP-3 with cancer, growth hormone deficiency, diabetes, osteoporosis. Final y, 43 articles were summarized according to inclusion criteria.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In recent years, the relationship between gene of IGFBP-3 and risk of cancer is becoming a hot research topic. The results show that IGFBP-3 is a protective agent of cancer risk, and it is an important factor in evaluating the risk of cancer, exhibiting a potential application value. IGFBP-3 is also associated with growth hormone deficiency and diabetes. In addition, IGFBP-3 can assist IGF-1 to play the regulatory role in bone growth and differentiation, which is closely linked with osteoporosis. Therefore, IGFBP-3 can be a potential predictor for osteoporosis.

Objective To study the effects of sitting position on pulmonary hemodynamics and intrapulmonary shunt (Qs/Qt) during neurosurgery. Methods Twenty eight patients scheduled for posterior fossa and posterior cervical spinal surgery, were anesthetized with sevoflurane fentanyl pancuronium or enflurane fentanyl pancuronium after intravenous induction. Pulmonary hemodynamics were monitored with Swan Ganz catheter technique and Qs/Qt was calculated from the data of arterial and mixture venous blood gas analysis, including the following parameters: CI, RAP, MPAP, PCWP, PVRI, pHa, PaCO 2, PaO 2, PaO 2/FiO 2 and Qs/Qt. The detection time points were as the follow: before anesthesia induction, before sitting position, immediately ,60 min and 120min after sitting position, and at the supine position after termination of surgery. Results After induction of anesthesia and during operation at sitting position, CI decreased significantly (P0.05).Conclusions During neurosurgical procedure under general anesthesia and sitting position, pulmonary vascular auto regulation can be preserved and pulmonary oxygenation can be kept in normal.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(03):-
The leakage of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase ( GPT ) in the supernatant of primary cultures of rat hepatocytes has been used to evaluate the toxicity of the classical hepatotoxin carbon tetrachloride ( CC14 ) . The response of the isolated hepatocyte's preparation to incubate with CCl4 showed a clear dose dependency from 5 to 20 ml/ L in this system and the toxicity increased -with time of incubation. Glycyrrhizin ( 100mg/L ) and sodium caffeic acid 10 to 100 mg/L remarkably reduced GPT release in the medium of hepatocytes with CC14 while Bupleurum kunmingense polysaccharides had no significant effect at the same condition. Glycyrrhizin and caffeic acid might have protective effects against CC14. Further study is necessary. These findings also indicated that the primary cultures of rat hepatocytes is a suitable system for evaluating liver protective drugs as well as studying the function of cell metabolism.
