1.Relationship between maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein and fetal middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity in pregnancy with fetal anaemia

AIM: To evaluate the relationships between maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein (MSAFP) levels and middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity (MCA-PSV) in pregnancies with fetal anaemia and to compare the sensitivities of MSAFP and MCA-PSV for the predicting the risk of fetal anaemia. METHODS: Fifty-five measurements of MSAFP and MCA-PSV were carried out in 32 women at risk of fetal anaemia (4 cases of alloimmunisation, 11 cases of thalassemia, 10 cases of parvovirus infection and 7 cases of placental chorioangioma). The relationship between MSAFP and MCA-PSV was studied, and 19 fetal blood samples, in which MCA-PSV measurements were abnormal, were taken and the fetal heamoglobin were tested in order to evaluate the correlation of MSAFP and MCA-PSV. RESULTS: A correlation between MSAFP and MCA-PSV (n=55, r=0.57, P<0.01) was observed, in which 15 cases of fetal anaemia and 4 cases false positive (non-anaemia) were detected among the 19 fetal blood samples. The MSAFP levels of 4 false-positive cases were normal. The MSAFP levels in 15 fetal anaemia cases were higher than those in non-anaemia. The elevation of MSAFP level was 15-20 d earlier than that of MCA-PSV in the cases of alloimmunisation and thalassemia, and it was 10-12 d later in the cases of parvovirus infection and placental chorioangioma significantly (P<0.05). Both MSAFP (r=-0.87) and MCA-PSV (r=-0.67) were significantly correlated with fetal heamoglobin level. CONCLUSION: The MSAFP level is significantly correlated with both MCA-PSV measurements and fetal haemoglobin. The time and process of the elevations of MSAFP indicate that MSAFP is more sensitive than MCA-PSV to predict and monitor the pregnancies at the risk of fetal anaemia.
2.A retrospective study of 369 cases of renal cell carcinoma

Objective To study the diagnosis and treatment of renal cell carcinoma. Methods 369 cases of renal cell carcinoma were reviewed for their incidence,diagnosis,treatment and prognosis. Results 281 cases(76.2%) were clear cell carcinoma ,39 cases (10.6%) of granular cell carcinoma,42 cases(11.4%) being a combination of the above two varieties and 7 cases being of other cell types. Radical nephrectomy was performed for 301 cases (81.6%) and other procedures for 45 cases. 297 cases have been followed up:three-year,five-year and ten-year survival rates were 74.6%、56.2% and 28.2% respectively. Conclusions B type ultrasonography and computerized tomography (CT) are important means in the diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma.The most effective treatment is radical nephrectomy at early stage,wherea sbiological treatment works in certain degree.
3.Urethral sphincter preservation procedure in 165 cases of prostatectomy

Objective To assess the urinary continence at a follow-up of 1 year after radical retro-pubic prostatectomy. Methods By using subjective (questionnaire) and objective (pad-test) methods, 165 consecutive prostate cancer patients were followed up at least 1 year. With the purpose to improve post-operative continence, surgical techniques such as preservation of external striated sphincter, preservation of bladder neck and pre-prostate sphincter (PPS), and nerve-sparing technique have been carried out.Analyses were also made in comparison by age. Results A post-operative incontinence rate of 0.7% was found in the sphincter preserving group and 5.3% in the sphincter repairing group. Patients aged 50~60 revealed a continence rate of 60% when the urethral catheter was removed, whereas 82% in the 60~70 group.After 3 months of follow-up, the continence rate of both age groups tended to be similar. Conclusions Surgical improvement and patients' age are important factors in post-operative continence after radical retro-pubic prostatectomy. The preservation of external urethral sphincter helps improve continence rate. Younger patients tend to regain to continence in a shorter period while the elders longer.
4.Large vestibular aqueduct syndrome:23 cases report

This paper reports 23 cases of the large vestibular aqueduct syndrome.All cases are sensori-neural hearing loss,23.91% is moderately severe hearing loss,54.35% is severe hearing loss,and 21.74% is profound hearing loss.The contour of audiogram in high frequency dctcrioration is 74%,che flat contour of audiogram is 13%,the islanded contour audiogram is 13%.Some cases are progressive hearing loss,and the others are sudden hearing loss,two cases among whole cases were found vestibular dysfunction after examination.After high resolution CT scan in inner ear,27 ears were found pathological changes only in vestibular aqueduct enlargement,in addition to these changes,12 ears were found malformation of vestibule and semicircular canals,and 7 ears were showed cochlea malformation.It is said that the disease is caused by abnormal development on endolymphatic duct in early embryonic stage,and the principal inducement is infectious factor.There is not an effective treatment,but the better results can be reached in deaf children with residual hearing,after they wearing hearing aids and getting the auditory-verbal training in the early period of time.If the hearing aid can not reach effective hearing compensation for these patients,cochlea implantation is considered and suggested.
5.Effect of probucol on inflammatory response in rabbits with arteriosclerosis obliterans

Objective To explore the effect of probucol on the inflammatory response in rabbits with arteriosclerosis obliterans.Methods SPF male new zealand white rabbits were subjected to incomplete right femoral artery ligation model of arteriosclerosis obliterans.The model rabbits were divided into experimental group and control group.The rabbits in experimental group were treated by probucol.After treatment for 4 weeks,HE staining was used to evaluate the injury severity of right femoral artery in rabbits;ELISA was used to measure the levels of IL-1,IL-6,TNF-α and CRP;Realtime PCR was used to detect the expressions of IL-1,TNF-α in right femoral artery;Western blot was used to measured the nucleus accumulations of NF-κB,and the phosphorylation of IκB.Results Compared with control group,the degree of pathological injury of right femoral artery was significantly atteunated,the levels of IL-1 、IL-6 、TNF-α and CRP in plasma,the mRNA expressions of IL-1 、TNF-α and the nucleus accumulations of NF-κB,and the phosphorylation of IκB in right femoral artery decreased significantly.Conclusion Probucol attenuates the inflammatory response in rabbits with arteriosclerosis obliterans significantly.
6.Development of residual voltage testing equipment.

For the existing measurement methods of residual voltage which can't turn the power off at peak voltage exactly and simultaneously display waveforms, a new residual voltage detection method is put forward in this paper. First, the zero point of the power supply is detected with zero cross detection circuit and is inputted to a single-chip microcomputer in the form of pulse signal. Secend, when the zero point delays to the peak voltage, the single-chip microcomputer sends control signal to power off the relay. At last, the waveform of the residual voltage is displayed on a principal computer or oscilloscope. The experimental results show that the device designed in this paper can turn the power off at peak voltage and is able to accurately display the voltage waveform immediately after power off and the standard deviation of the residual voltage is less than 0.2 V at exactly one second and later.

7.Isolation and tumorigenicity of CD133 + subpopulation in human hepatocellular carcinoma

Objective To separate the CD133 + subpopulation in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and investigate the tumorigenicity.Methods The human liver cancer tissues were subcutaneously transplanted into nude mice to generate xenograft tumors which were then isolated to prepare single cell suspension.The expression of CD133 + subpopulation was further detected using flow cytometry.The CD133 + subpopulations were separated and depurated with magnetic-activated cell sorting system.Immunofluorescence was performed to identify the histological phenotype of CD133 + subpopulation.The in vitro and in vivo clone formation assay and in vivo xenograft formation assay were performed, respectively.Results Flow cytometry analysis revealed that a percentage of (4.1 ± 0.6) % CD133 + cells were detected in xenografts.Immunofluorescence studies showed that (86.8 ± 7.5) % of the isolated cells were CD133 +.Compared with CD133-population, CD133 + cells showed a higher capability to generate clone sphere in vitro and a higher tumorigenicity in nude mice (P < 0.05).Conclusion The CD133 + subpopulation in human hepatocellular carcinoma had a potent tumorigenicity and was enriched in cancer stem cells.
8.Non-enhanced CT predicting nonbronchial systemic arterial supply in patients with hemoptysis

Objective To assess the prediction value of nonbronchial systemic arterial supply in hemoptysis patients with non-enhanced CT. Methods Fifty-six consecutive patients with hemoptysis underwent non-enhanced CT. Thickness of pleural adjacent to parenchymal lesion larger than 3 mm was regarded as index of nonbronchial systemic arterial supply. Conventional angiography was used as the standard of reference. CT findings were compared with those of conventional angiography. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of CT for predicting nonbronchial systemic arterial supply were assessed. Results The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of CT for predicting nonbronchial systemic arterial supply were 72.73%, 95.00% and 91.11%, respectively. Sensitivity was higher when nonbronchial systemic arterial supply located in superolateral and posterolateral lung, and lower in anteromedial and inferior lung. Specificity and accuracy were high for predicting nonbronchial systemic arterial supply in every locations. Conclusion Non-enhanced CT can predict nonbronchial systemic arterial supply in patients with hemoptysis, which is helpful for selecting angiography and embolization.
9.Effect of different doses remifentanil on gynecologic laparoscopic postoperative hyperalgesia

Objective To explore the effect of different doses remifentanil on hyperalgesia and the analgesic effect of gynecological laparoscopic operation.Methods Ninety gynecologic laparoscopic operation patients were divided into A group,B group and C group by random digits table method with 30 cases each.The anesthesia induction in A group and B group was intravenous injection remifentanil 1.5 μ g/kg,propofol 2 mg/kg,cisatracurium 0.2 mg/kg,and in C group was intravenous injection fentanyl 3 μ g/kg,propofol 2 mg/kg,cisatracurium 0.2 mg/kg.The maintenance of anesthesia in A group was infusion of remifentanil 0.3 μ g/ (kg· min),in B group was infusion of remifentanil 0.2 μ g/ (kg· min),and in C group was infusion of fentanyl 2 μ g/kg.The operation time,anesthesia time,time to extubation,intraoperative doses of propofol and remifentanil (A group and B group) were recorded.The visual analogue score (VAS) before operation and 15,30,60,120,240 min after extubation were recorded.The analgesia time,number of analgesia and adverse reaction after extubation were observed.Results There were no statistical differences in operation time and anesthesia time among 3 groups (P > 0.05).The extubation time in A group and B group was significantly shorter than that in C group:(5.9 ± 2.7) and (6.1 ± 2.3) min vs.(9.6 ± 3.3) min,the dose of propofol in A group was significantly lower than that in B group and C group:(461.3 ± 69.7) mg vs.(543.4 ± 101.9) and (552.5 ± 93.8) ng,the dose of remifentanil in A group was significantly higher than that in B group:(1.12 ± 0.33) mg vs.(0.71 ± 0.1 l) mg,there were statistical differences (P< 0.05).The VAS 15,30,60,120,240 min after extubation in 3 groups were significantly higher than those before operation,A group:(7.3 ± 1.2),(7.4 ± 1.3),(6.5 ± 0.8),(4.5 ± 0.6),(4.1 ± 0.3) scores vs.(1.2 ± 0.3) scores,B group:(6.4 ± 1.5),(6.6 ± 1.1),(5.3 ± 0.4),(4.6 ± 0.3),(4.0 ± 0.4) scores vs.(1.5 ± 0.4) scores,C group:(3.4 ± 0.5),(4.2 ± 0.8),(4.1 ± 0.6),(3.8 ± 0.7),(3.8 ± 0.6) scores vs.(1.4 ± 0.2) scores,there were statistical differences (P < 0.05).The VAS 15,30,60 min after extubation in A group were significantly higher than those in B group,and the VAS 15,30,60,120 min after extubation in A group and B group were significantly higher than those in C group,there were statistical differences (P < 0.05).There was no statistical difference in VAS 240 min after extubation among 3 groups (P > 0.05).The number of analgesia in A group,B group and C group were 28,29 and 3 cases,and the analgesia time were (16.1 ± 4.6),(17.9 ± 5.8) and (68.5 ± 10.l) min,there were statistical differences (P< 0.05),there were no statistical differences between A group and B group (P> 0.05),and there were statistical difference between A group,B group and C group (P < 0.05).There was no statistical difference in adverse reaction among 3 groups (P > 0.05),and there was no respiratory depression in 3 groups.Conclusion The degree of hyperalgesia is related to the dose of remifentanil during gynecologic laparoscopic operation.
10.Alteration of local renin-angiotensin system of dogs with myocardial ischemia and external counterpulsation treatment

AIM: To examine the alteration of local renin-angiotensin system of dogs with myocardial ischemia and external counterpulsation treatment and its mechanism. METHODS: Acute myocardial ischemia was induced by occluding the LAD of ischemic and ECP groups. The tissue renin activity and angiotensin(AngⅡ) level in ischemic myocardium and aorta were measured. The expression of angiotensinogen and renin mRNA were detected by RT-PCR. RESULTS: Renin activity, AngⅡ level in ischemic myocardium and AngⅡ level in aorta of ECP group were lower than those of MI group. Except for renin in ischemic myocardium, angiotensinogen mRNA and renin in ischemic myocardium and angiotensinogen mRNA in aorta of ECP group were reduced to normal level. CONCLUSION: The inhibitory effect of ECP on cardiovascular renin activity and angiotensinogen gene expression could be one of the mechanisms by which ECP protects ischemic myocardium.
