Traumatic supraorbital fissure syndrome (TSOFS) is a symptom complex caused by nerve entrapment in the supraorbital fissure after skull base trauma. If the compressed cranial nerve in the supraorbital fissure is not decompressed surgically, ptosis, diplopia and eye movement disorder may exist for a long time and seriously affect the patients′ quality of life. Since its overall incidence is not high, it is not familiarized with the majority of neurosurgeons and some TSOFS may be complicated with skull base vascular injury. If the supraorbital fissure surgery is performed without treatment of vascular injury, it may cause massive hemorrhage, and disability and even life-threatening in severe cases. At present, there is no consensus or guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of TSOFS that can be referred to both domestically and internationally. To improve the understanding of TSOFS among clinical physicians and establish standardized diagnosis and treatment plans, the Skull Base Trauma Group of the Neurorepair Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Neurotrauma Group of the Neurosurgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Neurotrauma Group of the Traumatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Editorial Committee of Chinese Journal of Trauma organized relevant experts to formulate Chinese expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic supraorbital fissure syndrome ( version 2024) based on evidence of evidence-based medicine and clinical experience of diagnosis and treatment. This consensus puts forward 12 recommendations on the diagnosis, classification, treatment, efficacy evaluation and follow-up of TSOFS, aiming to provide references for neurosurgeons from hospitals of all levels to standardize the diagnosis and treatment of TSOFS.

In the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, the loss of organs or tissues caused by diseases or injuries has resulted in challenges, such as donor shortage and immunosuppression. In recent years, with the development of regenerative medicine, the decellularization-recellularization strategy seems to be a promising and attractive method to resolve these difficulties. The decellularized extracellular matrix contains no cells and genetic materials, while retaining the complex ultrastructure, and it can be used as a scaffold for cell seeding and subsequent transplantation, thereby promoting the regeneration of diseased or damaged tissues and organs. This review provided an overview of decellularization-recellularization technique, and mainly concentrated on the application of decellularization-recellularization technique in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including the remodeling of skin, nose, ears, face, and limbs. Finally, we proposed the challenges in and the direction of future development of decellularization-recellularization technique in plastic surgery.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2023;64(22):2295-2299
Brain diseases in traditional Chinese medicine were complex and difficult to diagnosis and treatment, and new diagnostic and therapeutic ideas are urgently needed. The onset of the disease was the result of the struggle between healthy qi and pathogenic qi. Common types of the onset of diseases included sudden onset, slow onset, latent onset, secondary onset, and recurrent onset, reflecting the strength of the healthy qi and pathogenic qi, the pathogenic qi that reduced diseases, the site of onset, and other informatin. “Identificating the onset of diseases” was simple and easy to operate, and helped to clarify the complex development of encephalopathy. When applying it, we should first identify urgency and importance, focus on the characteristics; grasp the tendency of diseases, and know the overall situation of the disease; compare similarities and differences horizontally; and carefully observe and dynamically understand the disease. “Identificating the onset of diseases” has the characteristics of comprehensiveness and prognosis, and can lay the foundation for pattern identification and treatment and “treating disease before its onset”.

Genome miniaturization drives key evolutionary innovations of adaptive traits in verte-brates,such as the flight evolution of birds. However, whether similar evolutionary processes exist in invertebrates remains poorly understood.Derived from the second-largest animal phylum, scallops are a special group of bivalve molluscs and acquire the evolutionary novelty of the swimming lifestyle, providing excellent models for investigating the coordinated genome and lifestyle evolution. Here,we show for the first time that genome sizes of scallops exhibit a generally negative correlation with loco-motion activity. To elucidate the co-evolution of genome size and swimming lifestyle,we focus on the Asian moon scallop(Amusium pleuronectes)that possesses the smallest known scallop genome while being among scallops with the highest swimming activity.Whole-genome sequencing of A.pleuronectes reveals highly conserved chromosomal macrosynteny and microsynteny, suggestive of a highly con-tracted but not degenerated genome.Genome reduction of A.pleuronectes is facilitated by significant inactivation of transposable elements, leading to reduced gene length, elevated expression of genes involved in energy-producing pathways, and decreased copy numbers and expression levels of biomineralization-related genes.Similar evolutionary changes of relevant pathways are also observed for bird genome reduction with flight evolution. The striking mimicry of genome miniaturization underlying the evolution of bird flight and scallop swimming unveils the potentially common, pivotal role of genome size fluctuation in the evolution of novel lifestyles in the animal kingdom.

Objective:To compare the anti-androgenic effect of cyproterone acetate (CPA) and spironolactone (SPL) on male-to-female transsexuals. Methods:From January 2012 to September 2021, 185 male-to-female transsexuals (95 using CPA and 90 using SPL) who visited the Peking University Third Hospital and under stable medication for ≥3 months were enrolled, aged 16 to 40 (23±5) years. General information and laboratory indicators of the last visit were collected for a cross-sectional study. Results:The median doses of antiandrogens in the CPA group and SPL group were 25 mg/d and 80 mg/d, respectively. And the median dose of oral estradiol valerate in both groups was 2 mg/d. Testosterone level in the CPA group was significantly lower than the SPL group [0.7 (0.7-1.5) nmol/L vs. 13.2(6.7-18.4) nmol/L, U= 6 970.500, P<0.001]. The CPA group also had better subjective effects on testicular atrophy, erection decrease, body hair decrease, skin softening and figure feminization (all P<0.05). The prolactin level of CPA group was significantly higher than that of SPL group [21.5 (12.6-30.1) ng/ml vs. 11.9 (7.7-20.0) ng/ml, U= 2 053.500, P<0.001]. Conclusions:CPA has a more significant effect on lowering testosterone levels than SPL, and is better than SPL in terms of testicular atrophy, erection decrease, body hair decrease, skin softening and figure feminization, albeit with a potentially higher risk of hyperprolactinemia.

Objective:To discuss the clinical results of treatment for congenital muscular torticollis with different injection points of botulinum toxin type A and traditional conservative method, and to expound the safety and effectiveness of this way. Methods:From January 2018 to December 2018, 60 cases aged from one month to six months with congenital muscular torticollis who visited the outpatient clinic of plastic surgery in Children's Hospital of Quanzhou, a teaching hospital of FuJian Medical University, and there were 38 males and 22 females. The treatment groups were divided into two groups according to random number method that were treated with botulinum toxin type A: the single point group was given one point injection, and the three-point group was injected with three points, while the control group was treated with traditional conservative treatment (mainly manual stretching exercises). The number of cases in each group was 20.Results:The differences of muscle thickness and muscle length were repeatedly measured at different time points in the same group and variance analysis conducted. The results showed that there were statistical significances among the two indicators at different time points in each group ( P<0.05). Least significant difference (LSD) was further adopted for pairwise comparison between indicators at different time points in each group and the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). In the comparison of treatment effect of different groups after twelve months follow-up, the cure rate was 85% (17 cases) in the single point group, 95 % (19 cases) in the three-point group, and 80 % (16 cases) in the control group, there was no significant difference among three groups ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Local injection of botulinum toxin type A is a safe and effective treatment option for congenital muscular torticollis, which can achieve the same clinical effect as traditional conservative treatment.
