Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2009;25(7):1192-1194
Objective To observe the pulmonary artery motion curve with anatomical M-mode echocardiography, and to investigate its influential factors. Methods The pulmonary artery motion curve was detected and pulsating amplitude of pulmonary artery wall (PAWPA) was measured with anatomical M-mode echocardiography in 160 patients with normal pulmonary artery pressure. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to assess inter-observer conisitency of PAWPA measurements between two investigators who were blinded to each other's findings, and intra-observer consistency of PAWPA with repeating the measurements on two occasions by the same investigator in 20 randomly selected cases. Stepwise multiple regression was used to analyze the following potential influential factors of PAWPA: age, gender, heart rate, blood pressure, atherosclerosis, right atrial diameter, and pulmonary insufficiency. Results There was good consistency between two independent observers' measurements and between two occasions in the same observer's measurements for PAWPA with ICC values of 0.91 (95% CI, 0.37-0.99) and 0.95 (95% CI, 0.60-0.99), respectively. PAWPA was negatively correlated with age (β=-0.47, P<0.001) and heart rate (β=-0.29, P<0.005). There was no correlation of PAWPA with gender, blood pressure, atherosclerosis, right atrial diameter, and pulmonary insufficiency. Conclusion Anatomical M-mode echocardiography can be used for measuring PAWPA with good consistency and reproducibility. In normal pulmonary artery pressure cases, PAWPA is affected by age and heart rate.

Objective To investigate the effects of surgical operations on different femoral condylar fractures. Methods A retrospective study was carried out on surgical operations of 84 patients with different femoral condylar fractures. The healing of fracture, functional recovery of knee joint and complications were analyzed. Results All the fractures healed in 6 to 12 months. According to Karlstrom's knee function score system, 48 knees were rated as excellent, 20 good, 13 fair, and 3 poor. The total good and excellent rate was 80.9%. Conclusions Anatomical reduction, secure fixation, timely treatment of complicated damage, and early rehabilitation exercise are important in treatment of femoral condylar fracture. The sustain blade plate is recommendable, because its design suits the anatomical structure of femoral condylar, and it not only provides convenient and stable fixation but also allows early postoperative functional training.

The clinical internship is an important transitional period for humanistic spirit cultivation of the medical students. But in this period there are some problems exposed. For example, there is the lack of transitional link in management; the clinical instruction doctors lack educational consciousness or guidance ability, the medical students pay little attention to enhancing the individual humanistic spirit level and there is a gap between theory and practice of humanistic spirit for them.Strengthening training for students, attaching importance to training, selection and incentive of clinical instruction doctors and revising handbook of clinical internship will help to solve the problems.

BACKGROUND: Dopaminergic neurons differentiated from neural stem cells have been successfully used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease rats; however, the survival rate of transplanted cells has been low. Most cells die of apoptosis as a result of the formation of oxygen free radical and lipid peroxidation.OBJECTIVE: To observe resveratrol (Res) effects on survival of transplanted cells, transplanted efficacy and dopaminergic differentiation from neural stem cells in a rat model of Parkinson's disease.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized controlled animal experiments were performed at the Animal Experiment Center,Sun Yat-sen University from October 2007 to June 2008.MATERIALS: Thirty-two adult, healthy, male Sprague Dawley rats were equally and randomly assigned to model control, dopaminergic neuron, Res and combination groups. Four healthy Sprague Dawley rat embryos at gastational days 14-15 were selected and fetal rats were used for isolation and culture of neural stem cells. Res (Jingmal Biotech, Shenzhen, China) was used for this study.METHODS: Neural stem cells derived from the mesencephalon of embryonic rats were isolated and cultured in vitro, and passaged in serum-free culture medium containing epidermal growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor, and then differentiated into dopaminergic neurons in differentia.ion medium. Parkinson's disease rat models were established by the injection of 6-hydroxydopamine in each group. Rats in the dopaminergic neuron group was injected with 3 pL cell suspension (1×10 cells/μL) containing dopaminergic neurons in the corpus striatum. Rats in the Res group received 3 μL of Ras (40 mg/L).Rats in the combination group were subjected to 3 μL of Res (40 mg/L) + 3 μL cell suspension (1×105 calls/μL) containing dopaminergic neurons. Rats in the model control group received 3 ×L of DMEM/F12 culture medium.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The percentage of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in differentiated cells. The alteration of rotational asymmetry and the survival of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in graft areas of Parkinson's disease rats after transplantation.RESULTS: Flow cytometry demonstrated that survival rate of tyrosine hydroxytase-positive neurons was (17.8 ±4.2)% at 6 days following differentiation. Compared to the model control group, the rotational asymmetry was significantly improved at 10 days (P < 0.01), was significantly decreased at 20 days following transplantation in the combination group (P < 0.01). At 10-60 days following transplantation, the number of rotational asymmetry was significantly lower in the combination group than in the dopaminergic neuron group (P < 0.01). Tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons were not determined in the Res and model control groups. The number of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons was significantly more in the combination group than in the dopaminergic neuron group (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Res can increase survival rate of transplanted cells in the corpus striatum, and improve rotational asymmetry in rat models of Parkinson's disease following transplantation of dopaminergic neurons differentiated from neural stem cells.Ke CL, Chen BL, Yu ZH, Huang ZS.Effects of resveratrol on the transplantation of neural stem call-derived dopaminergic neurons in a rat model of Parkinson's disease.Zhongguo Zuzhi Gongcheng Yanjiu yu Linchuang Kangfu. 2009;13(27): 5281-5285.[http://www.crter.on http://en.zglckf.com]

Stroke is an important public health problem both in China and worldwide.Stroke genetics research has made great progress in recent years, especially the genome-wide association study (GWAS) and the emergence of epigenetics, has brought a breakthrough in this field. They studied the pathogenesis of stroke from the genetic level and the environmental factor levels. Although there are still many problems to be solved, the prospect of stroke genetics is bright.

Objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy of posterior internal fixation and anterior debride-ment with autogenous bone grafts at one stage on tuberculosis of thoracic or lumbar spine . Methods 16 cases of thoracic or lumbar spinal tuberculosis patients were treated with combined anterior (radical debridement and bone autograft) and posterior (instrumentation) surgeries in one stage between September 2003 and September 2007. The degree of the kyphosis (Cobb angle) was measured and the interbody fusion was observed preoperatively and postop-eratively. The ASIA grading system was used to assess the neurological status. Results All patients were followed up for 10 months to 36 months,on average of 12 months. All patients showed sucessful interbedy fusion, but Cobb angle was not progressed. No recurrence or wound infection was found. 6 cases all got nerve function recovery. Conclusion Thoracic or lumbar tuberculosis treated with this surgical technique can achieve stable internal fixation and a high satisfactory rate with restoring the spinal stability, arresting the disease early, providing early fusion, correcting the ky-pbosis particularly.
