Clinical Medicine of China 2010;26(11):1151-1154
Objective To study the changes and their value of ultrasonic myocardial integrated backscatter (IBS)in normal control and patients with super-acute phase of myocardial infarction. Methods There were 38 cases of acute myocardial infarction(AMI)patients in the super-acute phase(time < 2 h infarction)and the acute phase(infarction time > 2 h,typical ECG changes)for myocardial ultrasonic backscatter parameters detection,an additional 25 cases as healthy control group. The myocardial infarction region and non-infracted myocardial tissue region average duration of cardiac cycle of integrated backscatter(IBS)were measured, and IBS adjusted value (IBS%)was calculated as the ratio of myocardial IBS to the pericardium, the difference of IBS at end-diastolic and late systolic was used as cyclic variation of IBS(CVIB). The ratio of IBS to pericardial CVIB was used as its adjusted value(CVIB%). Over the same period for the electrocardiogram, myocardial enzymes and cardiac troponin I were measured. Results When ECG was not typically changed in patients with super-acute phase AMI,the IBS values significantly increased in the myocardial infarction region than the normal control group (43. 7 ± 10. 8)dB vs.(22. 6 ± 4. 6)dB,P <0.01),and CVIB was significantly lower than that in the normal control group(10. 2 ±2. 6)dB vs.(13. 2 ± 3.8)dB,P < 0.01]. The IBS in the acute phase in patients was significantly higher than that in the normal control group and those non-infarcted areas, and CVIB was significantly lower than that in the normal control group and those in the non-infarcted areas. The changes were consistent with the ECG changes. Conclusions Ultrasonic backscatter parameters might be helpful for diagnosis of hyperacute period of AMI,and the determination of the scope and extent of AMI.

Icarrin is the main monomer extracted and purified from Epimedium koreanum Nakai. Using dependentcell lines and LDH release assay, the synergistic effects of icarrin on inducing IL-2, 3, 6 and enhancing NK,LAK cell activity were studied. Results showed that icarrin can induce tonsil mononuclear cells to produce IL-2, IL-3,and IL-6 in collaboration with PHA in a dose-dependent manner. IL-2 and IL-6 peaked at 48h after reaction, and IL-3 peaked at 72h. Icarrin enhanced NK and LAK cell activity dose-dependentlylthe LAK activitypeaked on the 5th day. These results suggested that icarrin may be an effective BRM agent

Objective To investigate the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphism (677C→T) of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and Alzheimer′s disease(AD) in south China Han people. Methods By applying polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), MTHFR 677C→T mutation was detected in 45 AD patients and 48 healthy controls. Results The frequency of MTHFR 677C→T mutation of patients showed no significant difference to that of healthy controls (P > 0.05). There is no statistic significance between AD group and controls in C, T gene frequency(P>0.05). But T gene frequency is higher in AD group than in control group. Conclusion MTHFR C 677T is not the pathogenic factor for AD, but could have some effects on AD.

The aim of this Post-Marketing Surveillance study was to assess efficacy, safety and acceptance of acarbose treatment in Chinese type 2 diabetic patients under day-to-day practice conditions. A total of 2 480 patients were enrolled by 231 physicians throughout China into an open, prospective, uncontrolled, nonrandomised, multi-centre study. Main efficacy parameters were the changes in fasting and postprandial blood glucose concentrations as well as in HbA1c levels after acarbose treatment. The majority of patients had been previously treated with other oral anti-diabetic medication or insulin and received concomitant anti-diabetics during the mean observation period of 13.5 weeks. Most patients started on a daily acarbose dose of 50 mgt. i. d. Acarbose treatment reduced fasting blood glucose concentrations by 56. 1 mg/dl ( 18 mg/dl glucose = 1 mmol/Lglucose) and 2h-postprandial values by 111.3 mg/dl over the studyperiod. HbA1c decreased by 1.9% and body weight by 0.9 kg. 76 acarbose-related adverse events occurred; two patients experienced serious adverse events. The attending physicians assessed treatment efficacy as "very good" or "good" for 90.1% of the patients, tolerability for 89.1% and acarbose acceptance for 87.1% of the patients. Acarbose is efficacious, safe and well accepted by Chinese type 2 diabetic patients under day-to-day routine conditions, both as anti-diabetic mono therapy and in combination with other anti-diabetic drugs.

The serum TSH levels of 107 infants with subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) were > 20 mIU/L after 1-8 check-up, along with FT4, TT4, within low normal range. After given small dosage L-T4, for 4 weeks, blood TSH level obviously descended while FT4, TT4, ascended (all P <0.01). Seven cases of thyroid hypogenesis and 7 strumas were found by ultrasonography. It seems appropriate to use dosage of 3-4 μg·kg·-1·d-1 L-T4 in treating SH.
