BACKGROUND: The complicated localization of intramedullary nails and osteotomy more dependent on surgeons' experience limit the application of conventional total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The occurrence of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology can achieve precise localization and osteotomy in TKA.OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of 3D printing technology-aided TKA versus conventional TKA for genu varum.METHODS: Thirty-four patients with genu varum undergoing primary unilateral TKA were recruited and were then divided into two groups (n=17 per group) in accordance with the random number table. One group was treated with TKA with 3D printing guild plate (3D printing group), while the other group received the conventional TKA (conventional group). The intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, operation time, as well as the Hospital for Special Surgery score, range of motion, and lower limb mechanical alignment at 2 weeks postoperatively were compared between two groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The range of motion of knee in the 3D printing group was larger than that in the conventional group, but had no significant difference at 2 weeks postoperatively (P=0.744). (2) There was no significant difference in the Hospital for Special Surgery scores between two groups at 2 weeks postoperatively (P= 0.532). (3) The postoperative lower limb mechanical alignment showed no significant difference between two groups (t=0.218, P=0.632).(4) The operation time in the 3D printing group was significantly shorter than that in the conventional group (P=0.000). (5) The blood loss in the 3D printing group was significantly less than that in the conventional group (P=0.000). (6) Our findings indicate that 3D printing technology-aided TKA exhibits similar results to the conventional TKA in the Hospital for Special Surgery scores, range of motion, and lower limb mechanical alignment, but it shortens the operation time, reduces the blood loss, and achieves precise osteotomy, which is available for the elderly with poor basic condition, and weak tolerance of surgery.

Objective To evaluate MR imaging of peripheral nerve tumors of the lower extremity. Methods MR imaging of peripheral nerve tumors of the lower extremity in five cases proved by surgery and pathology were retrospectively reviewed. In all patients, routine scanning was performed in axial, coronal, and sagittal planes, including T 1-weighted and T 2-weighted images. In two patients (schwannomas), T 1WI were obtained following intravenous injection of Gd-DTPA. Results There were four schwannomas (three benign and one malignant) and one malignant neurofibroma. Tumors arose at the following sites: leg ( n =2), popliteal region ( n =1), thigh ( n =1), and femoral region ( n =1). On T 1WI, tumors generally showed isointensity (two benign schwannomas) or lower-medium signal intensity to adjacent muscle with minimal inhomogeneity (one benign schwannoma, one malignant schwannoma, and one malignant neurofibroma). On T 2WI, tumors demonstrated inhomogeneous high signal intensity in all five patients. The target sign with peripheral hyperintense rim and central low intensity was see in two benign schwannomas on T 2WI. Conclusion MRI is useful in defining the location and extent of a lesion and in assisting the surgical planning. The target pattern appears to be a useful sign in the diagnosis of peripheral nerve tumors.

Objective To evaluate MR imaging of transient osteoporosis. Methods MR imaging of transient osteoporosis in eight patients was retrospectively reviewed. In all eight patients, routine scanning was performed in axial and coronal planes, including T_1-weighted and T_2-wighted images.Of the eight patients, five were male and three were female, with the age ranging from 12 to 70 years.Neither of the women was pregnant when they visited our hospital. Results The bilateral hips were affected in seven patients, the left shoulder in one.The MR images demonstrated low signal intensity in all eight patients on T_1WI,and normal signal intensity (2 cases),medium-high signal intensity (3 cases),or high signal intensity (3 cases) on T_2WI.The bone marrow edema (BME) pattern involved the acetabulum (one hip),both the femoral head in 5 hips, the femoral neck and the intertrochanteric region through the upper femur in 7 hips, and the upper humerus in one.A small joint effusion was observed in six hips on T_2WI.Conclusion MRI is useful in defining the location and extent of transient osteoporosis.

In nature, honeybees are the most important pollinators. They play a vital role in both protecting the diversity of natural ecosystems, and maintaining the yield-improving effects of agroecosystems. But in recent years, epidemic disease in bees has caused huge losses. Black Queen Cell Virus (BQCV) is a bee pathogen that was first reported in 1955. It mainly infects bee larvae and pupae, making their bodies turn dark and black, and causing a massive decrease in the bee population. More specifically, the virus makes the exterior of the cell walls in the larvae and pupae turn black. BQCV is a seasonal epidemic, spread by means horizontal and vertical transmission, and is often unapparent. BQCV not only infects a variety of bee species, but also spiders, centipedes and other arthropods. It can also be coinfected with other honeybee viruses. In recent years, research has shown that the Nosema intestinal parasite plays an important role in BQCV transmission and bees carrying Nosema that become infected with BQCV have increased mortality. Here we summarize current research on the incidence, prevalence, geographical distribution and transmission of BQCV.

Honeybee pupae were collected from Jilin apiaries and RNA was extracted for use as a tefnplate for amplification. Based on the complete genome sequences of black queen cell virus (BQCV) published on GenBank, we designed 10 pairs of primers to amplify genes by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Using this approach, we have obtained the first complete genome sequence of a BQCV isolate in China. The genome of the isolated strain, named BQCV-JL1, is composed of 8358 nucleotides and shares between 86% and 93% homology with the complete genome sequences of the other six BQCV strains published on GenBank. ORF 1 of BQCV-JL1 is positioned between nucleot ides (nt) 546 and 4676 (4131 nt), while ORF 2 is located between nt 5750 and 8203. Between the two ORFs of BQCV-JL1 there is a short ORF, called ORF 3, between nt 4891 and 5433 (543 nt). The first functional gene ex- pression domain of the BQCV-JL1 strain is positioned between nt 546 and 5 429, encompassing both ORF 1 and ORF 3. There is an internal ribosome entry site (IRES) located before ORF 2, the last three bases of which are CCU (nt 5642-5644). These bases act as an initiation.codon facilitating the translation of ORF 2. The second functional gene expression domain of the BQCV-JL1 strain is located between nt positions 5642 and 8203. The BQCV-JL1 strain was found to share high sequence identity (93%) with the Hungary 10 genotype at the whole-genome level and analysis of the nucleotide and amino acid sequences revealed that the BQCV-JL1 strain also shows close genetic relationships with the South Korea strain, suggesting that both the BQCV-JL1 and South Korea strains may have migrated from European countries. BQCV-JL1 strain was different from the other 6 strains in dividing the nucleotides positions of QRF, which vqs because of the gene mutation.
