Objective To investigate the expressions of guanylyl cyclase-c(GC-C) and caudal-type homeobox transcription factor 2 (CDX2) in human gastric tissues and precursor lesions and its significance. Methods The cancerous and paracancerous (5 cm from cancer lesion )samples from 30 cases of gastric cancer and 32 samples including 23 intestinal metaplasia and 9 dysplasia were collected. The mRNA expressions of GC-C and CDX-2 were detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and proteins of GC-C and CDX-2 were measured by using Western blot and immunofluorescence methods. Results The mRNA expressions of GC-C and CDX-2 were absent in paracancerous tissues, but were 66.7% and 63.3% in cancerous tissues, respectively(P=0. 000). The Western blot indicated that expressions of GC-C and CDX-2 were 19/30 and 17/30 in cancerous tissues, but absent in paracancerous tissues(P=0. 000). The immunofluorescence examination revealed that GC-C and CDX-2 expressions were 39.1% and 39.1% in intestinal metaplasia, 55.6% and 55.6% in dysplasia, and 56.7% and 60.0% in cancerous tissues, respectively, but absent in paracancerous tissues. Moreover, expressions of GC-C and CDX-2 showed a statistical difference between intestinal-type and diffuse-type of gastric cancer (P< 0.05) ,but had no correlation with age, sex, size of the lesion, clinical stage and lymphnode metastasis. The positive correlation was found in expressions of GC-C and CDX2 between intestinal metaplasia and cancerous tissues(r=0. 4524 and 0. 3845, P= 0. 037 and 0. 0408, respectively). Conclusions The over expressions of GC-C and CDX2 in human gastric cancer is associated with precursor lesions and may play an important role in the carcinogenesis of gastric cancer. The examination of GC-C and CDX2 expressions will be helpful in diagnosing gastric cancer and precursor lesions.

Objective To explore the ideal choice of feeding artery which is used for regional arterial infusion (RAI) in severe acute pancreatitis. Methods Forty-five patients with SAP were treated with RAI. The ideal feeding artery was that can supply entire pancreas according to arteriography and can maximize concentration of drug at pancreatic tissue. The pancreatic arteriography was considered as the final objective evidence for choice. Results (1)Gastroduodenal artery was chosen as feeding artery in forty-four cases, and superior mesenterlc artery was chosen in only one case because of vascular abnormity. (2)According to splenic arteriography, blood of splenic artery was supplied to spleen chiefly, and only partial tail of pancreas was applied by splenic artery. (3)According to celiac trunk arteriography, blood of celiac trunk could be supplied to entire pancreas, but a considerable proportion of the total blood was supplied to spleen through splenic artery and liver through hepatic artery proper. Therefore, the drug utilization index was lower. (4)According to gastroduodenal arteriography, blood of gastroduodenal artery could be supplied to entire pancrea, and almost all of the blood that contains drug flowed into pancreas. Therefore, the drug utilization index was higher. Conclusions Gastroduodenal artery is the ideal choice of artery which is used for regional intra-arterial infusion in sever acute pancreatitis. Pancreatic arteriography should be applied routinely when yever acute pancreatitis was treated with RAI.

In the presence of silver ion, Mn2+ could be electro-oxidized to potassium hypermanganate in phosphoric acid solution, which could effectively react with pyrocatechol in acid solution and luminol in sodium hydroxide solution to produce chemiluminescence. On the basis of this, a novel indirect approach for the detection of Mn2+ was established. The effect of silver ions on the electrochemical oxidation of Mn2+was studied. when 1. 5 ×10-5 mol/L Ag+ and 0. 01 mol/L phosphoric acid solution were used in the process of electrochemical oxidation, the CL intensity could be up to the maximum value after the above solution was electrolyzed for 2 min. The relation of CL intensity and Mn2+concentration in the solutions at different pH and the selectivity were also investigated. when the pyrocatechol was used as luminescent reagent in the acidic medium, the CL intensity was linearly to the Mn2+concentration in the range of 1. 82×10-7-7. 27×10-5 mol/L with excellent selectivity. Common ions had little interferences in the determination of Mn2+. The method was successfully applied to the determination of Mn2+ in surface water and drinking water with satisfactory results.

ObjectiveTo investigate the accuracy of automated breast volume scanning (ABVS) for the measurement of breast tumor size.MethodsSixty-two breast tumors in 59 patients were included in this study and were examined using conventional ultrasound and ABVS to measure the maximal diameters of the tumors. And the measurement results were compared with the pathological maximal diameters. Results There were 21 malignant and 41 benign tumors according to histopathological evaluation. There were no signifi cant differences between the maximal diameters on ABVS and on pathological measurements for both benign tumors and malignant tumors (Z=1.761, 0.262,P=0.078, 0.794). However, for malignant tumors, the maximal diameters on conventional ultrasound were significantly smaller than those on pathological measurements (Z=3.743,P=0.000). For benign tumors, the maximal diameters on conventional ultrasound were similar with those on pathological measurements (Z=1.935,P=0.053). The measurement values of conventional ultrasound and ABVS were both positively correlated with those on pathological values (r=0.935, 0.964,r=0.870, 0.964). And the correlation coeffi cients between ABVS and pathological measurement values were higher than those between conventional ultrasound and pathological measurement values for both benign and malignant tumors. ConclusionABVS can assess the size of breast tumor more accurately than conventional ultrasound, especially for the malignant tumors.
