Objective The prevalence rate, related factors and clinical characteristics of postpartum depression were studied in order to promote obstetrician′s understanding of the disease, and resort to preventive and therapeutic measure earlier. Methods Two hundred and ten puerpera were selected from September to November 1998 for mood study by self rating depression scale, self rating anxiety scale, Hamilton depression scale, and self made questionnaires. Results The prevalence rate of postpartum depression was 37 14% (78/210), of which, 91 03% (71/78) was mild, and 8 97% (7/78) moderate. In addition, 10 48% (22/210) of women got anxiety after delivery. The symptoms, including decreased activity, difficulty in thinking, problems in decision making, difficulty in doing things, feeling of uselessness and hopelessness were chief complaints of postpartum depression patients. Bad social behavior and mood controlling, inadequate psychological preparation for delivery, lack of knowledge of delivery were closely correlated to the onset of postpartum depression, which are the risk factors of postpartum depression. Conclusions Postpartum depression is a spiritual and psychological obstacle with relatively high prevalence rate. Bad social psychological factors can bring out and aggravate postpartum depression. It is important to carry out prenatal psychological care and to propagate the knowledge of delivery, to find out and cure of postpartum depression as soon as possible.

Objective To study the pathological changes of acute hemorrhagic necrotizing pancreatitis(AHNP) complicated with acute lung injury(ALI). Method The model of AHNP with ALI was established in rats. The changes of function and structure of pancreas and lung were observed. Results One hour after induction of the model , pancreas showed mild edema and congestion . 12 hours after introduction of the model , the typical pathological changs of AHNP were found . The lung extravascular water volume and levels of PaCO 2 increased significantly, and the PaCO 2 decreased obviously. Morphological examination demonstrated that inflammatory cell , insterstitial edema , intra-alveolar hemorrhage ,desquamate and disintegration occurred in the lungs. Conclusions The pancreatic and pulmonary morphologic changes in this model is similar to the changes in clinical AHNP with ALI , which suggests that the model can be used to study the mechanism of AHNP with ALI and evaluate the effect of drugs for AHNP with ALI.

AIM To investigate the changes of biochemical index of osteoporosis in rats induced by given total flavonoids of herba epimedii (HEF) . METHODS The rat osteoporosis was induced by given retinoic acid intragastrically, the biochemical index in serum (T, E 2, ALP, PTH, BGP, Osteocalcin ) and in urine (Ca, P, DPD and Cr) were determined after the rats were given HEF by low, middle and high dosages respectively, and were compared with the model group. The normal control and the positive control. RESULTS The E 2, T and BGP level in all three dosage groups were obviously higher than that of the model group. The Ca/Cr, DPD and PTH level were obviously lower than the model group. The content of Ca and P and the bone density in femur were similar with the normal control, and there was significant difference compared with the model group. CONCLUSION HEF prevents the rats treated by retinoic acid from becoming osteoporosis. The changes of biochemical index were consistent with the variation of bone density, indicating the great significance of biochemical index in diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.

Objective To investigate the effect of hypoxia with cold on the heart and brain damage in rats by simulating 6 000 m high altitude at different exposure time, established a rat model of acute mountain sickness for the related mechanism studies. Methods 32 healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, hypoxia with cold 1 d,3 d and 5 d group,8 rats in each group. The normal control group was kept in the plain environment(1 500 m)without any treat-ment.The other three groups were placed in large hypobaric hypoxia chamber to simulate 6 000 m altitude with different ex-posed times.HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes of heart and brain tissue. The changes of biochemical indexes were measured to evaluate the damage of heart and brain tissue at different hypoxia times. Results HE staining showed that hypoxia with cold induced rat heart and brain damage with different degrees. The myocardial tissue damage was in-creased with exposure time. The most serious brain damage happened in day 3.Compared with the normal control group, the content of MDA and LD in the myocardial tissue of hypoxia rats were significantly increased(P<0.05 or P<0.01)with pro-longed time, while the contents of GSH,T-SOD and the activity of Na+K+-ATPase were reduced(P<0.05 or P<0.01). The content of MDA in brain tissue was significantly increased at day 1 and day 3(P<0.05 or P<0.01).LD content was sig-nificantly increased(P<0.05)with time. The content of GSH,the activity of T-SOD and Na+K+-ATPase were significantly reduced in day 3(P<0.05).Conclusion Simulating an altitude of 6 000 m caused obvious damage on the heart and brain tis-sues of rats. The degree of damage was related to the exposure time to hypoxia with cold. The decrease of body′s antioxidant capacity, the increase of free radicals and energy metabolism disorders are important factors leading to heart and brain injury.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) on the biochemical enzymes and lipid peroxidation in rats.
METHODSHealthy 6-week old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups with 16 in each. DBP dissolved in peanut oil was administered by gavage at dosages of 0, 250, 500 and 1000 mg/(kg x d). After 2- and 4-week DBP exposure, 8 rats in each group were killed, with certain organs selected and weighed. The activities of biochemical enzymes and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and the levels of glutathione (GSH) in the serum and testis homogenate were determined respectively.
RESULTSDBP induced a rise in the liver organ body weight ratio, but a fall in the testis organ body weight ratio, and it was significant in the highest exposure group compared with the control after either 2-week or 4-week treatment (P < 0.01). After 2-week DBP exposure, GSHPx activities in the serum and GSH levels in the testis homogenate showed a decreasing tendency, but GSHPx activities increased markedly in the testis homogenate (P < 0.05). After 4-week DBP exposure, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities in the serum revealed an increasing tendency, sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH) activities were inhibited significantly in both the serum and the testis homogenate at the dosage of 1000 mg/(kg x d) compared with the control group (P < 0.01). Furthermore, GSH contents in the serum were also affected at this dose (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe results indicate that DBP administration strongly affects the liver and the testis organ body weight ratios. Lipid peroxidation is one possible toxic mechanism caused by DBP. SDH may be one of the most sensitive toxic indices when exposed to DBP.
