1.Professor Lian Jianwei's Applying Buzhong Yiqi Decoction to Treat Detrimental Nine Orifices

Purpose] This paper aims to summarize the clinical practice of using Buzhong Yiqi Decoction to treat the obstructed nine orifices. [Approach] After explaining Li Dongyuan’s theory that those obstructed nine orifices reflecting headaches and tinnitus are caused by intestines and stomach diseases,which is in his Suwen On Deficiency and Excess and analyzing several simple cases of using buzhong yiqi decoction to treat the obstructed nine orifices,this paper tries to trace the theoretical origin of Prof. Lian’s practice and present the practical experience of flexible usage of Buzhong Yiqi Decoction. [Result] The outcome of several patients under treatment shows that the short-and-mid-term treatment is very effective. [Conclusion] Prof. Lian’s philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine reflects his attitude that “those patients suffering from insufficiency of primordial Qi and clear Yang failing to distribute”or“clear Yang coming out of stomach”ask for strengthening the spleen and stomach so their stomach recovers to the healthy state. As a result,their Yang Qi has been greatly improved,the spleen and stomach in the middle energizer have returned to their original place,reaching the autonomous regulation of the nine orifices,which has shed some light on the usefulness of Buzhong Yiqi on treatment diseases other than those of spleen and stomach.
2.Pro. Lian Jianwei’s Experience in Treating Acne

[Objective]To sum up pro. Lian Jianwei’s clinical experience in treating acne. [Method] By proved recipe analysis, it shows pro. Lian Jianwei ’s treatment based on differentiation of signs from different angles and the clinical thought of flexibly applying ancient formulae on acne. [Result] Pro. Lian Jianwei is good at revising ancient formulae for treating acne with good effect, according to patients ’pulse signs and mechanism;if the food is stagnated in the gastric-intestine, which wil transform into heat and up along the channel, Baohe Pil shal be used to remove stagnation and heat; if the liver is de-pressed with heat, deficient blood and weak spleen, Xiaoyan Powder shal be used for regulation and stretching the wood; use Wenqing Drink to nourish blood and remove toxin for deficient blood and hot liver, toxic heat implicated in spleen and stomach; apply Zisheng Pil to regulate and tonify middle part of the body for deficient spleen and stomach with turbidness and dyspepsia, etc. [Conclusion] Pro. Lian Jianwei has rich clinical experience, his clinical thought of “treatment based on differentiation of signs, with flexible methods and formulae, coping with shifting diseases by sticking to a fundamental principle”, worthy our deep experiencing and study.
3.Four Proved Cases by Professor LIAN Jianwei's Differentiation and Treatment on Eructation

[Objective]Analyzing clinical experience and academic view of Pro. LIAN Jianwei for the treatment of eructation in order to completely learn and master his experience.[Method] Analyzing 4 belching cases of Pro. LIAN, and combining his therapeutic experience and view. [Result] According to the view of Pro. LIAN Jianwei, there are 4 common types in clinic, the type of accumulation in stomach and intestine, the type of spleen and stomach deficiency, the type of liver qi stagnation, the type of liver and spleen disharmony. Promoting digestion and harmonizing stomach to treat the type of food accumulation in stomach;benefiting qi and strengthening spleen to treat the type pf spleen and stomach qi deficiency;smoothing liver and regulating qi to treat type of liver and stomach disharmony; regulating liver and spleen to treat type of liver and spleen disharmony;eliminating damp to treat type of spleen deficiency with damp;activating blood to treat stasis caused by prolonged diseases. Prescriptions of Pro. LIANbased on methods which changed with syndromes. He insisted that treatments base on differentiation;prescriptions base on methods, which make effect well. [Conclusion] It is worthy for our students to learn and imitate clinical experience and academic view of Pro. LIAN Jianwei for the treatment of eructation.
4.Effect of unfractionated heparin on the expression of heme oxygenase-1 in intestinal mucosa of mice with sepsis

Objective To investigate the effect of unfractionated heparin (UFH) on the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in intestinal mucosa of mice with sepsis.Methods Thirty-six male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into sham group,cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) group and UHF group,n =12 in each group.Model of intestinal injury in sepsis was induced by CLP.In sham group,the mice were exposed without ligation of cecum.In UFH group,the mice were treated intravenously with 8 U of UFH via the tail vein half an hour before the operation and 12 hours after the surgery respectively.Six mice in each group were randomly chosen at 4 hours and 24 hours after operation to collect inferior vena venous blood samples and terminalileum tissues.The serum levels of interleukins (IL-1 β,IL-6),and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The serum level of D-lactate was determined by colorimetry.Pathological changes of ileum tissue and Chiu score were observed after hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining.The HO-1 expression was detected immunohistochemically.Results In sham group,no significant changes in the serum levels of IL-1 β,IL-6,TNF-α and D-lactate were observed.Twenty-four hours after the operation,the structure of intestinal mucosa was basically normal without obvious pathology change and no HO-1 positive cells were found.The serum levels of IL-1 β,IL-6,TNF-α,and D-lactate in CLP group were gradually increased,and they were significantly increased as compared with sham group [IL-1 β (ng/L):40.87±2.88 vs.22.60±2.05 at 4 hours,113.73±3.96 vs.22.07±2.74 at 24 hours;IL-6 (ng/L):63.89±3.26 vs.44.89±3.38 at 4 hours,176.56±5.45 vs.45.76±4.02 at 24 hours;TNF-α (ng/L):194.62± 14.13 vs.152.05±6.22 at 4 hours,599.62± 10.20 vs.155.90± 14.18 at 24 hours;D-lactate (mmol/L):0.24± 0.02 vs.0.19 ± 0.01 at 4 hours,0.33 ± 0.04 vs.0.20 ± 0.02 at 24 hours,all P < 0.05].Twenty-four hours after the operation,edema and inflammation in ileal mucosa,intestinal villi structural damage were observed,the Chiu score was significantly higher than those in the sham group [4.5 (3.0-5.0) vs.0 (0-1.0),P < 0.05],and a small amount of HO-1 positive cells were localized in the intestinal mucosa.Compared with CLP group,the serum levels of IL-1 β,IL-6,TNF-α,and D-lactate of UFH group were significantly decreased [IL-1 β (ng/L):31.53 ± 2.90 vs.40.87 ± 2.88 at 4 hours,61.13 ± 2.80 vs.113.73 ± 3.96 at 24 hours;IL-6 (ng/L):51.16 ± 5.68 vs.63.89 ± 3.26 at 4 hours,81.16 ± 4.54 vs.176.56 ± 5.45 at 24 hours;TNF-α (ng/L):171.76± 5.60 vs.194.62± 14.13 at 4 hours,328.48 ± 10.79 vs.599.62± 10.20 at 24 hours;D-lactate (mmol/L):0.21 ±0.01 vs.0.24±0.02 at 4 hours,0.24±0.02 vs.0.33±0.04 at 24 hours,all P < 0.05].Twenty-four hours after the operation,intestinal injury was ameliorated,the Chiu score was significantly lower [1.5 (1.0-5.0) vs.4.5 (3.0-5.0),P < 0.05],and HO-1 positive cells in the intestinal mucosa was remarkably increased.Conclusion UFH can enhance the expression of HO-1 in intestinal mucosa,reduce the release of inflammatory factors,ameliorate the intestinal inflammatory response,and thus play a protective role in intestinal tissue in mice with sepsis.

6.Comparison of incisions between two approaches in transaxillary breast augmentation

Objective To compare the coronary incision with the sagittal incision in transaxillary breast augmentation.Methods A total of 60 patients who underwent transaxillary subpectoral breast augmentation with round breast implants were randomly allocated into two groups:Group A (30 patients) received coronary incision,while Group B received sagittal incision.The operative time of implant insertion,the distinction of scar and the repair rate of scar were compared between the two groups.Results The mean operative time of implant insertion in group A was (14.55±3.79)s,and that in group B was (27.38±6.79) s,with statistically significant difference (t =9.03,P<0.05).But there was no statistical significance in the difference in the degree of scar (x2 =0.26,P>0.05) or the repair rate of scar (x2=0.35,P>0.05) between two groups.Conclusions As for the operative time of implant insertion,the coronary incision is better than the sagittal incision.
7. Analysis of the early immune effects of rabies vaccine combined with human rabies immunoglobulin

Objective:
To investigate the early immune effects of rabies vaccine combined with human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG).
Methods:
Rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test (RFFIT) was used to test the titers of rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVNA). The titers of RVNA of persons who had exposed to rabies at degree III on day 0, day 1, day 7, day 14 and day 45 were compared. The dynamic curves and seroconversion rates (SCR) of RVNA in persons of different genders, age and vaccine regimens (Essen and Zagreb) groups were analyzed.
Results:
No significant differences of SCR among different genders, age and vaccine regimens groups were observed on the same day. SCR could be 100% on day14 in different groups. The dynamic curves of RVNA within the first 14 days showed the models of gradual rise, rapid rise and rapid decline.
Conclusions
The dynamic curves of RVNA within the first 14 days varied when rabies vaccines were used in combination with HRIG, and not all subjects were proved to be protected based on the RVNA detection within this period.
