Objective The epidemiologic evidences indicate that the benefits of using vitamin E (VE) against lung cancer remain controversial, the goal of the present paper is to know whether VE can produce the protective effect in lung cancer induced by benzo(a)pyrene B(a)P . Methods 225 Swiss mice were randomly divided into groups and treated with B(a)P and VE to systematically observe the intervention effects of VE on mouse lung cancer caused by B(a)P. Results VE exhibited no protective effect on B(a)P-induced lung cancer in female mice and instead promoted B(a)P carcinogenesis; neither protective effect nor promotion effect was observed in the male mice. The mechanism by which VE intervention influenced B(a)P carcinogenesis and lung cancer in female mice might be more complex. Conclusion The results of the present paper suggest that VE should not be used to prevent lung cancer induced by B(a)P.

OBJECTIVE:To observe therapeutic efficacy and safety of tripterygium glycosides combined with valsartan in the treatment of idiopathic membranous nephropathy(IMN). METHODS:A total of 85 patients with IMN were enrolled and randomly divided into observation group(42 cases)and control group(43 cases). Based on routine treatment(reducing lipid,anti-platelet ag-gregation,protein dietary restriction),control group was additionally given oral valsartan, with initial dose of 80 mg/d,and gradu-ally adding the amount to 160 mg/d if there was no obvious ADR;based on control group, observation group was additionally giv-en Tripterygium glycosides tablet 40 mg,tid, and reducing the amount to 20 mg,tid after complete remission. 2 groups were treat-ed for 12 months. RESULTS:Total effective rate of observation group was 92.86%,which was significantly higher than that of con-trol group(74.42%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the levels of 24 h urine protein,TC and TG of 2 groups were decreased after treatment, and serum albumin(ALB)of observation group increased;24 h urine protein and TG of observation group was lower than control group, while the serum level of ALB was higher than control group, with sta-tistical significance(P<0.05 or P<0.01). No obvious ADR was found in 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS:Tripterygium glycosides com-bined with valsartan can improve the kidney function and blood lipid level of IMN patients with high safety.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2015;29(18):1591-1597
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the relationship between passing rate of otoacoustic emission (OAE) and pure tone thresholds.
METHOD:
OAE including both transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) and distortion products otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) as well as pure tone thresholds were measured in subjects with normal hearing and sensory hearing loss. The passing rates of OAE were calculated in subjects with different age groups and different pure tone thresholds.
RESULT:
TEOAE can identify hearing loss at frequencies of 2 kHz and below. For TEOAE and 2 kHz DPOAE, passing rate has no difference between different age groups. For 4 kHz DPOAE, the passing rate in age over 50 years group is lower than other groups. The passing rate decreased as the pure tone threshold increased. When TEOAE and DPOAE suggest " pass", 70%, 81%, 79% subjects had pure tone threshold lower than 25 dB HL and 94%, 96%, 93% lower than 40 dB HL respectively. When they suggest "refer", 93%, 84%, 87% subjects had pure tone threshold higher than 25 dB HL and 71%, 58%, 68% higher than 40 dB HL respectively.
CONCLUSION
TEOAE is sensitive to hearing loss at middle and low frequencies but not at high frequencies. Measuring both TEOAE and DPOAE might provide more information of hearing loss at 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 kHz. It is worth noting that even OAE suggest "pass" or "refer", because there is still exist the possibility of hearing loss.

Military Medical Sciences 2014;(9):668-671
Objective To investigate the effect of plateau training on military operation ability ,evaluate the real situa-tion of combat forces on the plateau , and to provide data for effectively improving the combat effectiveness of the army stationed on the plateau .Methods According to the standards , the levels of high altitude acclimatization , physical work capacity (VO2max, PWC170) and mental work capacity (digit span, digit symbol, pursuit aiming and visual reaction time) were measured to assess the military operation ability of plateau training troops , including troops that entered the plateau from the plain(plateau-entering troops), troops stationed on the plateau (plateau troops) and troops stationed in the plain ( plain troops ) .Results The troops on the plateau all reached basic acclimatization .The aerobic capacities of these three types of troops were of the standard medium level , and the maximum oxygen uptake ( VO2max ) of the plain troops was greater than that of that of plateau-entering troops(P<0.01), and the VO2max of the plateau troops was greater than that of plateau-entering troops(P<0.01).Compared with the plain troops, the VO2 max and PWC170 of the plateau-entering troops decreased by 25.7%and 27.7%respectively.There was no significant difference in the digit span , digit symbol, pursuit aiming between these 3 kinds of troops , but the visual response of the plateau-entering troops was prolonged ( P<0.01), while the pursuit aiming of the plateau troops was lower than that of the plateau-entering troops(P <0.05). Conclusion Acclimatization-promoting measures and plateau training can contribute to high altitude acclimatization formation, but cannot overcome the objective adverse effects of the plateau on physical fitness .Two months of plateau training fails to improve physical fitness. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the research on scientific and effective measures to improve physical fitness on the plateau .
