Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in the general population including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.Autocrine regulation of vitamin D modulates important immune response.Vitamin D deficiency may be involved in the pathogenesis of many autoimmune diseases including RA.Vitamin D regulates both the innate and adaptive immune responses.Vitamin D's effects on the innate immune system are mainly through the toll-like receptor and on the adaptive immune system through T cell differentiation, particularly the Helper T cell (Th) 17 response. As Thl7 cells are critical in the pathogenesis in RA,what effect will vitamin D deficiency lead to on the RA? Many data have indicated the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and RA disease activities, but not all the results are consistent. Here,we review the immune-modulatory roles of vitamin D and its effects on disease activity, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease risk in RA.

Objective To develop a selective isolation media which has a high isolation ratio for Legionella. Methods We compared the growth of Legionella pneumonia on BCYE? plate (with DGVP), BCYE?(with GVPC) and BCYE? (with CCCV) by colony count and compared with BCYE? plate. The comparison of isolation ratio of Legionella pneumonia from air-conditions cooling water with 3 kinds of BCYE? plate containing different anti-reagents was performed. Results The results of colony count on BCYE? plate (with DGVP) and BCYE?(with GVPC) was identical with that on BCYE? plate at same concentration. But the result of colony count on BCYE? plate (with CCCV) was half of the former 2 kinds of plate. 5 strains of Legionella pneumonia isolated from 9 central air-condition cooling water were used by BCYE? plate (with DGVP) and BCYE? (with GVPC), while only 2 strains of Legionella pneumonia were isolated by BCYE? plate (with CCCV). Legionella pneumonia wasn′t detected by BCYE? plate. Conclusion BCYE? plate with antibiotics system of CCCV showed obvious suppression to Legionella pneumonia, and so that there was a low isolation ratio to Legionella pneumonia. But BCYE? plate with antibiotics system of DGVP and GVPC had a few suppression and showed a high isolatio ratio for Legionella pneumonia. Moreover, BCYE? plate with antibiotics system of DGVP and GVPC can effectively inhibit non-Legionella and increase isolation ratio of Legionella. They should be the first selection media for Legionella from environment and clinical samples.

Objective: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) method was used to evaluate clinical effects of acupuncture for cervical spondysosis. Methods: With RCT method used, 162 cases were adopted, and 150 cases finished the whole course (treatment group: 76 cases, control group: 74 cases). Treatment group cases were treated by real-acupuncture while control group cases treated by sham-acupuncture. Northwick Park Pain Questionnaire(NPQ)was used as main outcome index, while SF-36 as secondary index. Both groups’ patients were evaluated before and after treatment course, plus one month and 3 months after the end of the treatment course. Results:Treatment group cases got lower NPQ Scores and higher mental health dimensions scores than the control group cases at any evaluation time-point. At the point of one month after the end of the treatment course, the treatment group cases got better social function scores than the control group cases. At the point of three months after the end of the treatment course, the treatment group cases got better body pain and energy scores than the control group cases. Multiple regression analysis showed that three dimensions of SF-36 (social function scores body pain and energy scores) had close relationship with NPQ scores. Conclusion: Acupuncture had satisfactory long-term effect for cervical spondylosis.

In both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus,β-cell mass (BCM) is lost.Various treatments are developed to restore or reconstruct BCM.The development of non-invasive methods to quantify BCM in vivo offers the potential for early detection of β-cell dysfunction prior to the clinical onset of diabetes.PET imaging with radioligands that directly target the pancreatic β-cells appears promising. The ability to determine the BCM has been investigated in several targets and their corresponding radiotracers, including radiolabeled receptor ligands, antibodies, metabolites and reporter genes. Therefore,we summarize the recent progress in radionuclide molecular imaging of pancreatic β-cells.

BACKGROUND:At present, there stil remain controversies concerning the choice of tibial slope in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, and the related biomechanical studies are rare. OBJECTIVE:To find the rational tibial slope in mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty through the results of finite element analysis. METHODS:A finite element model of normal knee was established and validated using the techniques of three-dimensional reconstruction and finite element pre-processing. Then the finite element models of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty with different tibial slopes were established based on the normal knee model. The finite element analyses were conducted after the boundary conditions and loads were unified. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The finite element models of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty with different tibial slopes were established successfuly. The results of the finite element analyses indicated that the posteromedial tibial cortical and cancelous bone stress increased gradualy as the posterior slope increasing, as wel as the load distribution and the cartilage contact pressures of lateral compartment. The anteromedial tibial cortical stress increased significantly with the anterior slope. A posterior tibial slope of 0°-7° can be recommended when implanting a mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
