Objective The objective of digitalized patient records control is to meet some new demands set on patient records control under the new circumstances. Methods A computer system for digitalized patient records control and supporting processing, management and applications setups were established. Results The system put the contents of the patient records into various categories with difierent standards and designed relatively strict means of authorization. It rendered patient records easier to use and their control more strict, making it possible to make general use of the records without access to the original documents. As a result, data loss was avoided, authority over the data was put under control, data sharing was provided, and full and convenient use of data was realized. Conclusion Digitalized patient records control, a form of shaping computer-based patient records before the latter fully comes into being, enhances the efficiency of patient records application and reduces the pressure of paper records storage. It is a practical and effective way of controlling patient records.

Objective To establish a new method to analyze the position accuracy of multileaf collimator (MLC) in the dynamic mode. Methods The MLC test sequence was created in a field, where intentional leaf positional errors ranging from 0.1 to 1 mm per centimeter were introduced. In order to establish the relationship between the ion chamber readings and leaf position, whose slope indicated the leaf position error per centimeter,a two-dimensional ion chamber array was used to measure absorbed dose while leaves were moving at dose rates of 100,300 and 600 MU/min,respectively.For routine test, leaf position error was easily found via dose profile in y direction of the field created by dynamic leaves, where the position error could be quantitatively calculated as the slope of absorbed dose line of x direction of the same field. Results The error of 0.2 mm or more per centimeter was obviously shown through y dose profile. The calibration curve was linear at different dose rates. At 600 MU/min,a 0.1 mm leaf position error corresponded to a slope variation of 0.74%,and the differences between the tested errors and the introduced errors were within 0.1 mm.Conclusions The simple and reliable method is helpful to establish the intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) quality control (QC) system.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of programmed intermittent epidural bolus ( PIEB) for labor analgesia in parturients and the effect on neonates. Methods Two hundred primiparae with a sin?gleton fetus in vertex presentation, who requested labor analgesia, aged 21-36 yr, at 37 to 40 week gesta?tion, with cervical dilatation 1-3 cm, of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical statusⅠ or Ⅱ, were divided into 2 groups ( n=100 each) using a random number table: PIEB group and continuous epi?dural infusion ( CEI) group. PIEB regimens were programmed as 10 ml∕h starting from 1 h after the initial bolus. The programmed bolus dose was fixed at 5 ml with the lock?out interval set at 30 min. The drugs used in the analgesic pump were 0?08% ropivacaine and 0?4μg∕ml sufentanil in both groups. From the on?set of labor analgesia until 1 h after delivery, visual analog scale score was used to evaluate the uterine con?traction pain every hour. The modified Bromage score was used to assess the degree of motor block. The up?per spread of sensory block, total consumption of drugs, the number of attempts, duration of every stage, delivery mode, postpartum hemorrhage volume, and occurrence of adverse reactions ( dyspnea, hypoten?sion, pruritus, nausea, vomiting and urinary retention) were recorded. Apgar scores of the neonates were recorded, and the degree of primiparae′satisfaction with the analgesic efficacy was scored. Results Com?pared with group CEI, visual analog scale scores at T2?5 , the total consumption of drugs and the number of
attempts were significantly decreased, and the satisfaction score was significantly increased in group PIEB ( P<0?05) . The height of sensory block in the thoracic vertebra was significantly higher, and the height of sensory block in the lumbosacral spine was significantly lower in group PIEB than in group CEI ( P<0?05) . There were no significant differences between the two groups in the duration of every stage, delivery mode, postpartum hemorrhage volume, incidence of adverse reactions and Apgar scores of neonates (P>0?05). Conclusion PIEB provides reliable efficacy for labor analgesia in parturients, the degree of primiparae′satisfaction is high without increasing the occurrence of adverse reactions, and it exerts no effect on the neonates.

Objective To investigate expression changes of Tau protein in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and oligodendrocytes (Ols) after stretch injury in rats and explore the relationship of Tau protein with pathological changes after axonal injury. Methods Morphological changes of optic nerves, RGCs and OLs after stretch injury were examined under light microscope in control group, stretch only group, heat stress only group and heat stress pretreatment plus stretch group. The expressions of Tau protein in RGCs and OLs after heat stress and/or stretch injury were observed by using immunohistechemical stai-ning. Results Pathological changes of axons, RGCs and OLs were identified morphologically or quan-titatively after stretch injury to the optic nerves, which was significantly ameliorated through pretreatment with heat stress plus stretch injury. The expressions of Tau protein in RGCs and OLs were increased in stretch only group. There was no significant expression change of Tau protein in heat stress only group. Expression of Tan protein was obviously decreased in heat stress pretreatment plus stretch group. Con-clusions Both neurons and glial cells are involved in pathological process after axonal injury. The ex-pression changes of Tau protein are probably related to delayed axotomy and neuron apoptosis. Heat stress can relieve the impairment of cystoskeleton through decreasing and delaying the expression of Tau protein.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2007;27(3):233-6
The human brain-derived neurotrophic factor (hBDNF) gene was cloned by polymerase chain reaction and the recombinant adeno-associated viral vector inserted with hBDNF gene (AAV-hBDNF) was constructed. Cultured rat hippocampal neurons were treated with Abeta(25-35) and serued as the experimental Abeta-induced neuronal damage model (AD model), and the AD model was infected with AAV-hBDNF to explore neuroprotective effects of expression of BDNF. Cell viability was assayed by MTT. The expression of bcl-2 anti-apoptosis protein was detected by immunocytochemical staining. The change of intracellular free Ca ion ([Ca2+]i) was measured by laser scanning confocal microscopy. The results showed that BDNF had protective effects against A-induced neuronal damage. The expression of the bcl-2 anti-apoptosis protein was raised significantly and the balance of [Ca2+]i was maintained in the AAv-hBDNF treatment group as compared with AD model group. These data suggested that recombinant AAV mediated a stable expression of hBDNF in cultured hippocampal neurons and resulted in significant neuron protective effects in AD model. The BDNF may reduce neuron apoptosis through increasing the expression of the bcl-2 anti-apoptosis protein and inhibiting intracellular calcium overload. The viral vector-mediated gene expression of BDNF may pave the way of a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
