1.The effect of PARP in heart ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats
Journal of Chinese Physician 2012;14(8):1034-1037
Objective To investigate the effect of Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase(PARP) in heart ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats. Methods Forty - eight rats were divided into 4 groups randomly.3,4 -dihydro-5- [ 4- ( 1 -piperidinyl) butoxy ] - 1 ( 2H ) - isoquinolinone ( DPQ ),an inhibitor of PARP,was used to inhibit the expression of PARP in rat's heart. The expression of PARP,heart infarct size, heart function, and apoptosis of the cardiomyocytes were detected of different groups of the rats. Results The expression of PARP increased in rat heart I/R injury.Mter DPQ was used, the expression of PARP decreased significantly(5.04 ± 1.25 vs 2.33 ± 0.65,t =1.35,P < 0.05 ) ; inhibition of the expression of PARP improved the cardiac function; inhibition of the expression of PARP decreased cells apoptosis from (34 ± 6.2) % to (323 ± 3.8) % ( t =2.25,P < 0.05).Conclusions The expression of PARP increased in rat heart I/R injury.Inhibition of the expression of PARP could protect the heart from I/R injury.

Objective To study the expression of transcription factor FOXO1 and FOXO3a on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in patients with active or inactive systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and investigate the effect of FOXO1 and FOXO3a on the clinical features of SLE. Methods Thirty SLE patients and 10 healthy controls were enrolled. PBMC were separated from the peripheral blood. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western blot were applied to analyze the expression of FOXOI and FOXO3a. Results The level of FOXO1 expression was significantly decreased in active SLE patients compared with controls and patients with inactive SLE (P<0.05). The level of FOXO1 expression in inactive SLE patients was lower than that of the controls (P<0.05). The expression of FOXO1 mRNA was negatively correlated to SLEDAI. However, the level of FOXO3a was similar among the three groups. Conclusion The result suggests that FOXO1 may be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE and the expression level of FOXOI may be a good indicator for the disease activity of SLE.

Objective To probe into the current services and outcomes of township hospitals following their transformation, and their future positioning of functionality. Methods Pinpointing townships A, B and C as samples from a district in Beijing, in which field surveys were made in the township hospitals to learn their services, service provision methods and outcomes. Results Among the current services provided by these three hospitals, those of public health and primary healthcare nature in hospital A account for 50% each; those in hospital B account for 70% and 30% respectively; those in hospital C account for 60% and 40% respectively. Recommendable services provided in these hospitals include universal coverage of medical files, management of infectious diseases, public health emergency management, and immunization. Conclusion Township hospitals as the center of the 3-tier rural health service network, deserve a repositioning of their functionality to fit the health needs of residents at large.

We used the method of partial penectomy combined with penis lengthening to treat 2 cases of penile cancer. The penile lengths were lengthened by 3-4 cm. This method could retain the penis and sexual function to the maximum degree. And a few patients could avoid total penectomy and micturate on their feet. This operation is very simple and safe, with no complication.

Objective To identify the eye movement characteristics that can distinguish reading interest and comprehensibilityin order to provide reference for prediction of reading interest and comprehensibility based on eye movement. Methods Tobii Glasses 3 was used to collect eye tracking data from 11 participants who read 12 texts on different topics. After reading all the texts, the participants marked each sentence with theirlevels of interest and comprehensibility. Then,Python R and excel software were used to preprocess and analyze the data, and the differences in eye movementamid the four combinations of reading interest(interested or not)and comprehensibility(levels of difficulty)were studiedat overall and individual levels. Results At the overall level, there were statistically significant differences in eye movement between the easy comprehension group and the difficult comprehensiongroup where interest was concerned, but there was little difference between the interested group and the disinterested groupwhen it came to comprehensibility. There were differences in eye movement behavior between individuals, and some of the statistically significant differences in eye movement were consistent across most of the participants. In addition, some of the eye movement characteristicswere oppositeacross different individuals or could not distinguish between the interested and disinterested at the overall level, but could be distinguished within individuals. Conclusion At the overall level,it is relatively easy to determine comprehensibility through eye movement, but it is more difficult to distinguish whether the participant is interested in the sentence or not, especially when the text is easily comprehensible. At the individual level, eye movement behavior varies widely between individuals, and individuals manifest different characteristics in distinguishing reading interest and comprehensibility.
