Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2006;38(1):57-61
Objective: To study the frequency of interstitial 7q deletions in B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (B-LPDs). Methods: Cases were collected from the clinical laboratory diagnosis database at USLabs/LabCorp over the past two years (2002 to 2004). Cases that showed deletions in the long arm of chromosome 7 were then reviewed. Interstitial deletions in the long arm of chromosome 7 were further investigated according to the indications for clinical laboratory studies and flow cytometry findings. The final clinical diagnosis for each case was obtained from the referring physician. Results: A total of 19 483 cases were included in this series. Eighty-five cases were observed to have either terminal or interstitial deletion in the long arm of chromosome 7. Of the 85 cases, 46 had interstitial deletions accounting for 54.1% of the 7q deletions combined. B-LPDs were found in 10 of the 46 cases, accounting for 21.7%. The B-LPDs associated with 7q interstitial deletions were diverse, including B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) in five cases. The deleted region in the long arm of chromosome 7 in the 10 cases associated with B-LPDs was solely confined to the 7q22-q32 region. Conclusion: (1) The frequency of 7q interstitial deletions associated with B-LPDs is substantially high; (2) 7q interstitial deletions are not uncommon in B-CLL.

ABSTRACT The effects of cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) on the Ca2+ -dependent ourward K+-cur-rent [IK(ca)] were studied using whole-cell and single-channel patch-clamp techniques. Depolarization (pipette potential range from - 20 to - 120 mV)induced a outward Ik(ca) with a conductance of about 40 pS in the cultural aortic smooth muscle cells from SHR and WKY. 10 ?mol ? L-1 CPA significantly enhanced these currents and prolonged the mean open time of the channels. This effect of CPA was completely blocked by glybenclamide, a K+-channel block-er. In the whole cell recording experiments, CPA increased the amplitude of outward K+-current. This effect of CPA was Ca2+-dependent and completely blocked by glybenclamide. There was no any significant difference between the effects of CPA in SHR and in WKY. These results suggest that the functional change of vascular smooth muscle in SHR doesn't appear to be related to Ik(ca).

Purpose A new way in breast cancer detection, Dynamic Optical Breast Imaging (DOBI) was studied. Materials and Methods 52 patients receiving breast biopsy and DOBI were enrolled in this study. 19 were proved of breast cancer, 33 were benign. Results 94.8% of blue area in non-breast cancer lesions was found as wandering or diffusive pattern, while 68.42% breast cancer showed focal pattern. 86.46% of the curve signature of blue area in non-breast cancer lesions was wavy or flat, while 57.37% of breast cancer showed a steep decline. In 64.58% non-breast cancer, the curve of blue area was similar to that of non-blue area. 78.95% breast cancer had their curve different from that of non-blue area. The absolute value of amplitude (-5.77±2.13) of blue area in cancer was higher than that in non-cancer ( -3.34±0.87). The differences were all statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The spatial and temporal characteristics of DOBI were of diagnostic and differential value for breast cancer. The absolute value of amplitude, over|-5|, also helped the diagnosis of breast cancer.

CDISC standard has become a set of global data standards that can be used in clinical study, covering the full life cycle of clinical researches. After nearly 20 years of development and continuous version upgrades, CDISC standard can improve the quality and efficiency of clinical research and drug review, and to facilitate all stakeholders involved in researches to exchange the study data and communicate the outcomes. CDISC standard has been or is to be adopted as standard format in data submission by multiple regulatory authorities, and more widely implemented by the global pharmaceutical community. CDISC standard is gradually adopted in China. The feasibility and roadmap of CDISC standard as the Chinese data submission format requirements are undergoing exploration and piloting further.

Objective To measure the bone mineral density on hand radiographs at the midpoint of the second metacarpal on right hand(mBMD) and metacarpal cortical index(MCI).To estimate the correlation of mBMD and MCI with bone mineral density assessed by a variety of technique at different sites. Methods We measured mBMD and MCI in 178 femeal osteoporosis patients. Results Mean mBMD and MCI were significantly lower in the patients with vertebral deformity compared to those without vertebral deformity. Both mBMD and MCI positive significantly correlated with distal forearm BMD,tibial ultrasound velocity and hip BMD and negative significantly correlated with age. Conclusion mBMD and MCI are sensitive to bone mass change in skeletal status. It can predict future fracture.

To evaluate lesion detection of MRI in knee joint osteoarthritis in patients with symptoms of pain, the correlation between MRI findings and varying degrees of reported pain was assessed. Twenty-eight patients (31 knees) with osteoarthritis were recruited for this study. The degree of knee pain was assessed by VRS scores. The knees were evaluated by plain film radiograph utilizing Kellgren-Lawrence scores. Multiple MR sequences were performed on a 1.5T MR-system, including sagittal and coronal dual fast spin echo (TR/TE 3660/11/120 ms, slice thickness 5 mm), coronal spin echo T1-weighted (TR/TE 360/9 ms, slice thickness 5 mm), sagittal fat saturated 3D-spoiled gradient-recalled echo (TR/TE 50/6 ms; slice thickness 1.5 mm; flip angle 40 degrees ), and 3D steady-state free precession (TR/TE 6/2.2 ms; slice thickness 1.6 mm; flip angle 30 degrees ) pulse sequences for the purpose of detecting abnormities of cartilage, menisci, the anterior cruciate ligaments, bone marrow edema-like lesions, osteophytes, synovitis, and joint effusions. MR findings were compared with the degree of pain using Fisher exact test with P values less than 0.05 indicating a statistically significant difference. The results showed that, of the 31 knees evaluated, mild pain was reported in 11 and severe pain in the remainder. Kellgren-Lawrence scores of all 31 evaluated OA knees were as follows: grade 1 lesions (n=6), grade 2 lesions (n=14), grade 3 lesions (n=8), and grade 4 lesions (n=3). Articular cartilaginous defects were found in 37.1% of knees. Abnormalities of the menisci and anterior cruciate ligaments, bone marrow edema-like lesions, osteophytes, synovitis, and joint effusions were detected in 32.3%, 38.7%, 45.2%, 100%, 15.1% and 67.7% of knees, respectively. Of these variables, only the differences in prevalence of joint effusions were significantly different in the mild and severe pain groups (P=0.004). It is concluded that MRI evaluates the entire joint structure of the osteoarthritic knee, demonstrating abnormalities of the cartilage, menisci, and anterior cruciate ligaments as well as bone marrow edema-like lesions, osteophytes, synovitis, and joint effusions. The difference in pain grading between OA patients reporting mild and severe degrees of pain is related to the presence of joint effusion.
8.Hydrogen - anendogenous antioxidant in the body
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2008;29(3):233-235
Recently,Ohsawa et al. provide evidence that inhaled hydrogen gas has antioxidant and antiapoptotic activities that protect the brain and liver against ischemia-reperfusion injury. In fact, there is some endogenous hydrogen produced by intestinal bacteria within animal and human. The concentration of hydrogen in some mice tissues reached the antioxidant effect in their paper demonstrates,so we think that hydrogen should be an endogenous antioxidant in the body.
