Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2008;12(18):3597-3600
Myoblast transplantation has been carried out for a certain period, but its efficiency in repairing inherited myopathy or severe muscular injury is not satisfactory. The improvements in myoblast culture, transplantation approach, recipient and cell preparation before transplantation, scaffold material and its selection, and body immunity can positively influence transplantation efficacy, and improve recipient function. In addition, these improvements influence the prospect of myoblast transplantation or cell-mediated gene therapy.
2.Clinical characters of juvenile onset spondyloarthropathies
Chinese Journal of Rheumatology 2001;5(2):113-116
Objective To better understand the clinical characters of juvenile onset spondyloarthropa-thies (JSpA).Methods The clinical and laboratory data of 190 in-patients with JSpA were analyzed and the diagnosis, classification and differentiation of juvenile onset arthritis were discussed. Results Among these 190 patients,163 were male, with a male to female ratio 6∶1.Of them 92.1% had the disease after the age of 8.Peak of age at onset was 12 to 15 years;157(82.6%) patients had peripheral arthritis and only 23(12.1%) patients felt low back pain at onset.During the disease course, peripheral arthritis was found in 187(98.4%) patients and the history of low back pain or buttock pain was recorded in 123(64.7%).The interval between peripheral arthritis and low back pain was from 0 to 20 years, with an average of (3.2±4.5)years.Extra-articular features including enthesitis in 67(35.3%)patients,dactylitis in 20(10.5%),iritis in 9(4.7%) were observed.HLA-B27 was positive in 87.9%(160/182) patients.Sacroiliitis on X-ray was observed in 76.0%(136/179) patients, and 106(55.8%) patients were diagnosed juvenile ankylosing spondylitis (JAS) according to 1984 New York modified criteria. The average disease course in JAS was (6.3±6.2) years, longer than that in JSpA (P<0.01).Conclusion The concept of JSpA is helpful to early diagnosis and treatment of juvenile onset arthritis. The JSpA are characterized by asymmetric lower limb predominant oligoarthritis,a wide spectrum of extra-articular features, presence of HLA-B27 and familial history of SpA or psoriasis. It will take an average of 6.3 years for JSpA patients to fulfill the diagnostic criteria of adult AS.

4.Folic acid magnetic nanoparticles containing cisplatin inhibit the growth of human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cells in a non-cytotoxic manner
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2016;20(8):1111-1117
BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy drugs can kil both cancer cel s and normal tissue cel s. Molecular targeted therapy can reduce or avoid toxicity of chemotherapy drugs to normal cel s. OBJECTIVE: To study the therapeutic effect of folic acid magnetic nanoparticles containing cisplatin on laryngeal cancer. METHODS: Folic acid-cis-diaminodichloroplatinum (II)-aldehyde sodium alginate-magnetic nanoparticles (FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs) were prepared. The FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs, CDDP and FA-ASA-MNPs were cultured together with human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cel s. To detect the effect of FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs, CDDP and FA-ASA-MNPs on human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cel s, MTT, flow cytometry and transmission electron microscopy examination were used in vitro. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Both FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs and CDDP could inhibit the growth of human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cel s, and there was no difference in their inhibitory rates (P > 0.05). FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs and CDDP showed increased inhibitory rates of human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cel s with the increase of CDPP concentration. The half maximal inhibitory concentrations of CDDP for inhibiting Hep-2 cel s were significantly different at 24 and 48 hours after culture (P < 0.05). Both FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs and CDDP could cause apoptosis in Hep-2 cel s, and the number of apoptotic cel s was increased with the increase of drug concentrations (P < 0.05), but there was no difference between two kinds of drugs (P > 0.05). FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs and CDDP at low concentrations could increase the percentage of cel s at G0/G1, but decrease the cel proportion at S and G2/M phases (P < 0.05). Under transmission electron microscope, Hep-2 cel s with the intake of FA-CDDP-ASA-MNPs appeared to have notable apoptosis. These findings suggest that folic acid magnetic nanoparticles containing cisplatin can inhibit the growth of human laryngeal cancer Hep 2 cel s, with no influence on the efficacy of cisplatin and with no cytotoxic effect.

Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2016;(3):226-230
Objective To investigate the drug effect of children with Dent disease who received therapy of po-tassium citrate and thiazide diuretics and angiotensin -converting enzyme inhibitors(ACEI),and to provide the refe-rence for the clinical treatment. Methods Dent disease patient who were followed -up in Bayi Children′s Hospital Af-filiated to Beijing Military Region General Hospital during the period of July 2006 and March 201 4 were selected. The patients were administered a therapy of potassium citrate associated with thiazide diuretics and ACEI according to the level of proteinuria and calciuria and serum potassium. The underlying changes before and after the treatment were com-pared and analyzed. Results In 1 5 children with Dent disease, they were all male cases, onset age ranged from 3 months to 1 1 years old[(2.62 ±3.1 1 )years old],and the disease duration ranged from 0.50 to 9.50 years old [(2.81 ±2.34)years].The patients were followed up for 0.50 to 7.50 years[(3.61 ±2.62)years].There was a sig-nificantly statistical difference in calcium/creatinine and daily Ca -creat ratio in contrast to before treatment[(0.41 ± 0.1 9)mg/mg vs(0.26 ±0.1 2)mg/mg,t =2.603,P =0.021 ;(6.76 ±2.0)mg/kg vs (4.34 ±1 .97)mg/kg,t =5.265,P =0.000],there was no significantly statistical difference in 24 -hour urinary protein quantity in contrast to before treatment[(0.96 ±0.62)g/24 h vs (0.87 ±0.44)g/24 h,t =1 .01 6,P =0.327].One case with kidney stone and 5 cases with nephrocalcinosis had a negative result of renal ultrasound after treatment. Conclusions Treatment of potassium citrate combination with thiazide diuretics and ACEI can significantly decrease urinary calcium excretion, make a disappearance of kidney stone and nephrocalcinosi, and it may have a role in protecting renal function.Treat-ment of benazepril can not significantly decrease the proteinuria and has no substantial improvement in low molecular weight protein urine.
6.Coats disease-like retinopathy and inherited metabolic disorders or syndromes
Chinese Journal of Ocular Fundus Diseases 2017;33(1):93-96
Coats disease is a relatively rare and idiopathic disorder characterized by retinal telangiectasia and massive intra-retinal and (or) sub-retinal lipid accumulation, resulting in complications including retinal detachment and neovascular glaucoma. Previous reports have revealed that Coats disease can be associated with other disorders, especially some inherited diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). Coats disease associated with other inherited disorders is generally called Coats-like retinopathy, which has some unique features that differs from the classic Coats disease, for example there is no sex and age preference, more bilateral cases, more severe cases and more genetic factors involved. Patients of Coats-like retinopathy with RP and FSHD may have mutations in Crumbs homologue gene 1 and D4Z4 genes.
7.Effect of Herbs for Nourishing Kidney and Strengthening Governor Vessel on Postoperativ Intervertebral Fusion Rate in Elderly Patients with Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2015;(3):402-405
Objective To investigate the effect of herbs for nourishing kidney and strengthening governor vessel on postoperative intervertebral fusion rate in elderly patients with degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis ( DLSS) . Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out for the clinical data of 72 elderly DLSS patients treated with modified transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) during the period from October, 2012 to October, 2013. The patients were divided into two groups, 39 in Chinese medicine group and 33 in control group. Operative efficacy was evaluated with Japanese Orthopaedic Association ( JOA) scores for assessment of cervical myelopathy, postoperative function improvement was evaluated by Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores, and lumbar interbody fusion was evaluated by the modified Brantigan scores. Results (1) During the follow-up period, patients of the two groups had no complications such as screw breaking or loosening, cage displacement, or endplate collapse. (2) Before opera tion and 3 days after operation, the differences of JOA scores were insignificant between the two groups (P>0.05) . (3) Significant difference of intragroup ODI scores were shown 12 months after operation vs 6 months after operation, and between 6 months after operation and pre-operation in the two groups (P<0.01) . ODI scores of Chinese medicine group 6 and 12 months after operation were lower than those of the control group, the difference being significant ( P<0.05 or P<0.01) . ( 4) The results of modified Brantigan scoring showed that the interbody fusion rate 6 months after operation was 71.79% in Chinese medicine group, higher than 48.48% in the control group ( P<0.05) . Twelve months months after operation, the interbody fusion rate was 87.18% in Chinese medicine group, higher than 66.67% in the control group (P<0.05) . Conclusion Herbs for nourishing kidney and strengthening governor vessel may improve the lumbar interbody fusion rate and the quality of life of the elderly DLSS patients treated by modified TLIF.
8.Stem cells in optic nerve protection and restoration following injury
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2010;14(23):4367-4370
BACKGROUND: As a specially differentiated central nerve, optic nerve is once injured, retinal neurons are hard to restore and regenerate. As a result, visual function is lost permanently. Currently, an effective clinical treatment is not available. Due to the multi-directional differentiated potential of stem cells, their role in optic nerve protection and restoration following injury is becoming a hot research spot.OBJECTIVE: To review the classification and transplantation of stem cells in optic nerve protection study, as well as roles of stem cells transplantation in optic nerve protection and repair following injury.METHODS: The database of ISI Web of Knowledge platform was searched on computer from February 1994 to April 2009, with the key words "stem cells, optic nerve" in English. In the same way, the database of CNKI from February 1994 to April 2009 was also screened, with the key words "stem cells, optic nerve" in Chinese.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: A total of 98 literatures related to stem cells in optic nerve protection and restoration after injury are collected, in which 23 papers are Chinese and 75 papers are English. The studies published earlier, repetitively and similarly are removed, and 38 papers which comply with the standards are involved into this review. Stem cells own the potential of self-renew physiologically, as well as potential of repairing the injuries. At present, most of the researches on stem cells in optic nerve protection and restoration after injury are represented in morphosis. How to implant stem cells safely and effectively and how to recover stable visual function still need our efforts. Stem cells derived from skin, peripheral blood, fat and other tissues are convenient to draw materials and are commendable subjects, we should study them deeply to make preferable use.
9.Esthetic evaluation in restoring anterior teeth with porcelain fused to metal crown
Chinese Journal of Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology 2001;0(06):-
Objective To compare and analyse the esthetic effect of four kinds of the porcelain fused to metal crowns (PFMs) in restoring anterior teeth. Methods Based on single standard, a total of 371 anterior teeth from 110 patients were restored by PFM, in which 206 teeth of 59 patients were restored with Ni-Cr alloy PFM, 105 teeth of 29 patients with full circular procelain shoulder PFM, 35 teeth of 16 patients with titanium metal PFM, and 25 teeth of 6 patients with noble metal PFM. The esthetic effect was examined and analysed by single-blind method in one week and after one year. Results Between three days and one week, there was no difference among four PFMs in shapes and colors, which corresponded with adjacent teeth. The edge suitability was good and no significance was found in them. After one year, there was no difference of four PFMs in shapes and colors, which corresponded with adjacent teeth. The edge suitability of noble metal PFM was better than the other three, and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion The esthetic effect is the best when noble metal PFM is used to restore anterior teeth and better with full circular procelain shoulder PFM.
