OBJECTIVETo analyze the status quo of teaching behaviors of teachers in a medical university and identify the factors affecting teaching behaviors to improve the teaching quality.
METHODSAll the staff conducting direct teaching in a medical college were investigated by cross-sectional survey and case-control study. Logistic regression model was established, with the results of teaching quality as dependent variable and influential factors as independent variable. The case-control study was conducted by one-way analysis of unconditional logistic regression and logistic multivariate analysis.
RESULTSThe differences in teaching quality among 38 various teaching behaviors of the university teachers were significant. Four factors in teaching behaviors were found to influence the improvement of teaching from poor to excellent quality, 6 affecting improvement from moderate to excellent and 7 from poor to moderate.
CONCLUSIONThe critical teaching behaviors affecting teaching quality vary with different levels of teaching quality and potentials of improvement, and the closeness of the association also varies.

Objective To observe the expression and localization of CIP4 (Cdc42 interacting protein-4) in the renal fibrosis and the effect of CIP4 on the expression of E-cadherin,vimentin and β-catenin tyrosine phosphorylation. Methods In vitro, the human tubular epithelial cells (HK-2 cell line) were cultured with 10 μg / L TGF-β1 for 72 h. The protein expressions of CIP4, E-cadherin, vimentin and β-catenin tyrosine phosphorylation were measured by Western blotting; the expression of CIP4 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR. The intracellular distribution of CIP4 was observe by confocal microscope. In vivo, Masson staining was used to evaluate the level of renal fibrosis; the expression and distribution of CIP4 in renal tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry. HK-2 cells were transfected with pcDNA3. 1-CIP via lipofectamine 2000. The expressions of E-cadherin, vimentin and β-catenin tyrosine phosphorylation level in the transfected cells were detected by Western blotting. Results The expressions of CIP4 mRNA and protein were up-regulated in renal tubular EMT cells. Most of CIP4 protein localized in cell membrane, and some was in cytoplasm. After stimulation by TGF-β1, the expression of CIP4 protein both in cytoplasm and nucleus was greatly increased (P <0.05),especially in cytoplasm. In vivo, CIP4 was expressed in renal tubular epithelia, but little expressed in glomeruli. In renal from 5/6 nephrectomized rats, CIP4 expression was significantly increased. In the CIP4 transfectants, the expression of CIP4, vimentin and β-catenin tyrosine phosphorylation level were up-regulated (P <0.05), but E-cadherin expression was suppressed (P <0.05).Conclusion The overexpression of CIP4 is likely to take part in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition process, thereby promoting the renal fibrosis.

Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection is a recognized risk factor of dementia, while its role and mechanism in Alzheimer disease (AD) remained unclarified. Our previous study has identified that injection of soluble H.pylori filtrate could induce AD-like pathologic changes and cognitive impairment in SD rats.In the present study,we further explored the effect of long-term stomach colonization of H.pylori bacteria on the brains of SD rats. The results showed that H.pylori bacteria gavage induced an efficient colonization of H.pylori in the stomach after four weeks. However, there was no significant change of tau phosphorylation at Thr205 (pT205),Thr231 (pT231),Ser396 (pS396) and Ser404 (pS404) sites in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. The H.pylori-infected rats also showed no cognitive impairment. These observations may result from inefficient release of bacterial pathogenic factors or the overall lack of host inflammatory responses. We conclude that SD rat with long-term H.pylori colonization in the stomach is not a suitable animal model for exploring the effects of H.pylori infection on brain function in human beings;administration of bacterial filtrates may better reveal the systemic pathologic changes induced by bacterial infection in animals which show a negative host response to bacterial colonization.

Spontaneous transient outward currents (STOCs) play an important role in the myogenic regulation of small artery tone, such as coronary artery. In the present study, we investigated the electrophysiological properties and the regulation of STOCs in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) of porcine coronary artery by perforated patch-clamp technique. Our data showed that STOCs were dependent on voltage and extracellular calcium and they were highly variable in amplitudes and frequencies. STOCs superimposed stochastically onto whole-cell K(+) currents induced by step and ramp protocols. STOCs were completely abolished by ChTX [inhibitor of large-conductance Ca(2+)-activated potassium (BK(Ca)) channels], removal of extracellular Ca(2+), or addition of ryanodine (50 mumol/L) respectively. In contrast, CdCl2 and verapamil, inhibitors of voltage-dependent L-type Ca(2+) channels, had little effect on STOCs. Caffeine (5 mmol/L) transiently increased STOCs (hump), followed by a temporary inhibition. Ca(2+) ionophore A23187 increased both amplitude and frequency of STOCs. Na(+) ionophore monensin increased the frequency of STOCs. STOCs were strongly inhibited by KB-R7943, a selective inhibitor of the reverse mode of the Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger. Based on these observations, we conclude that STOCs are mediated by BK(Ca) channels. The generation and activation of STOCs depend upon Ca(2+) influx through Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchange and release of Ca(2+) from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) via ryanodine receptors. This suggests that Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchange determines calcium store refilling. Recycling of entering Ca(2+) from superficial SR may locally elevate Ca(2+) concentration at the plasma membrane, thereby activating BK(Ca) channels and then initiating STOCs.
