Objective This study was to investigate the diagnostic value of CT-guided percutaneous needle lung biopsy ( PN-LB) in different types of lung cancer and compare the pathological results of CT-guided PNLB and surgical specimens. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis of 324 cases of lung cancer, all confirmed by CT-guided PNLB after imaging manifestation of lung-occupying lesion and treated by surgical resection. We compared the pathological results of CT-guided PNLB and surgical speci-mens. Results The total coincidence rate of the pathological result from CT-guided PNLB with that from surgical specimens was 85.8% (278/324), with even a higher coincidence rate (96.4%) in adenocarcinoma, followed by squamous cell carcinoma (86.1%), and small cell lung cancer (45.5%).Large cell lung cancer and adenosquamous carcinoma were liable to be diagnosed as adenocarcinoma by CT-guided PNLB ( 7/10 and 6/10 ) .McNemar-Bowker test revealed no significant differences in the coincidence rate in adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and small cell lung cancer (κ=0.837, P=0.215). Conclusion CT-guided PNLB has a high coincidence rate with surgical specimens in the pathological diagnosis of lung cancer, but the coincidence rate varies with different pathological types of the tumor.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture has been confirmed to be effective in treating Parkinson disease both clinically and experimentally, but there is still lack of systematical and complete therapeutic principle and law to be followed in clinic.OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence on glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde(MDA)and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in corpus striatum of the damaged side in rat models of Parkinson disease by acupuncture at subthalamus.DESIGN: A randomized controlled animal experiment.SETTING: The Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in the Experimental Animal Center of Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January to June in 2003. Eighteen healthy adult Wistar rats of pure breed were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6 rats in each:electroacupuncture group, model group and normal saline group.METHODS: ① Model group: The rats were made into models of Parkinson disease with damaged corpus striatum by injecting 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA, 12 μg), which was dissolved in 5 μL normal saline containing 2 g/L ascorbic acid, slowly into caudal putamen. without intervention. ②Normal saline group: 6-OHDA was replaced by normal saline of the same dosage, and other treatments were the same as those in the model group. ③ Electroacupuncture group: The model preperation was the same as that in the model group. The needles were embedded in subthalamus at 6 weeks postoperatively, and then electroacupuncture (in frequency of 100 Hz, and the intensity about 1 mA) was given one week later for 2 weeks, once a day,15 minutes for each time.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: All the rats were killed by cutting heads to remove brain under anesthesia at 2 weeks after electroacupuncture, and the activities of GSH, GSH-Px, SOD and NOS and the concentration of MDA were detected with chromatometry.RESULTS: All the 18 rats were involved in the analysis of results. ① MDA concentration was higher in the model group and electroacupuncture group than in the normal saline group [(5.53±0.71),(4.10±0.27), (5.53±0.71) μmol/L, P < 0.01], but lower in the electroacupuncture group than in the model group (P < 0.05). ② The activities of GSH and GSH-Px were both lower model group and electroacupuncture group than in the normal saline group (P < 0.01), but lower in the electroacupuncture group than in the model group (P < 0.05).③ The activity of SOD was higher in the model group and electroacupuncture group than in the normal saline group [(113.36±2.17),(73.85±5.17), (42.34±1.83) μkat/g, P < 0.01], but lower in the electroacupuncture group than in the model group (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: The anti-oxidation capability of the rat models of Parkinson disease has been recovered and the nerve injury has been reduced after acupuncture, indicating that it is available and effective to treat Parkinson disease by acupuncture at subthalamus.

Objective To summarize the effect of bronchoscopy for sputum suction on aspiration pneumonia in elderly patients. Methods 45 elderly patients with aspiration pneumonia treated with bronchoscopy for early sputum suction on the basis of comprehensive treatment were assigned into group A ,and another 44 elderly patients with the same disease receiving the only comprehensive treatment as the control group (group B). After treatment, the two groups were compared in terms of temperature,WBC,arterial blood partial pressure of oxygen and lung shadow resolution. The key links in the operative manipulation were summarized. Results In group A, the temperature and WBC both resumed to the normal level, the time for increased arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) in group A was significantly shorter than in group B and lung shadow resolution significantly more evident than in group B (P < 0.01). In group A, the sputum suction was completed and there were no cases of death and serious complications. Conclusions Early bronchoscopy for sputum suction in the treatment of aspiration pneumonia in elderly people is effective. Skilled operation and accurate grasping of the key points of the suction process make sure that this technology can be more applicable in clinical practice.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV)covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA)is an intermediate replicative episome which is stable and not easy to eliminate.cccDNA serves as the template for HBV replication and plays an important role in persistence of HBV infection in hep-atocytes,and it is also a biomarker of HBV activity.Studies suggested that HBV has extrahepatic infectivity and cccDNA could be detected in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).The predictive values of HBV cccDNA in PBMC for HBV recurrence after liver transplanta-tion and antiviral therapy and mother-to -child transmission of HBV in patients with hepatitis B,as well as the possible mechanism of cccDNA involved in extrahepatic HBV infection, are summarized. Therefore, the detection of HBV cccDNA is of great significance for the study and treatment of HBV.

Chinese Herbal Medicines 2014;5(2):158-162
Objective: To revise the structure of hemerocallin, an active and toxic compound isolated from the roots of Hemerocallis fulva, which was first reported in 1974 based on the chemical and spectral data. Methods: The structure of acetyl hemerocallin was determined through the acetyl derivative preparing and X-ray diffraction. Results: The title compound acetyl hemerocallin (1) has been prepared and structurally characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction method. X-ray analysis revealed that the two naphthalene rings in compound 1 were significantly twisted with an average dihedral angle of 44.1°. The two acetate groups in each naphthalene ring adopted anti-parallel conformation. In addition, the π-π stacking interactions were found in the crystal structure, the molecules were linked into a supramolecular network, and the crystal structure was stabilized. Conclusion: The structure of hemerocallin is identified as 2,2'-bi(1,8-dihydroxy-6-methyl-7-acetylnaphthalene) (3). © 2013 Tianjin Press of Chinese Herbal Medicines.
