2.Progress and application of podoplanin's biological functions

Podoplanin (PDPN), being mucin-like transmembrane sialoglycoprotein, is expressed on lymphatic endothelial cells, with its significant role in the development of inflammation, separation of blood and lymphatic circulation, platelet aggregation, integrity of the renal filtration barrier and alveolar. In recent years, many researches have demonstrated that PDPN is overexpressed on the surface of some tumor cells. The interaction between PDPN and CLEC-2 plays an important role in the development of tumor growth, migration and transfer, therefore, anti-PDPN antibody offers a new direction for the treatment of tumor patients. This paper aims at reviewing the progress and application prospect of PDPN.
3.Need analysis of clinical research consultation for clinical epidemiology in a general hospital

Objective To understand the needs for and supply of clinical research consultation at the clinical epidemiological unit (CEU) in a general hospital. Methods Data were collected from work records of 2008 of CEU and were analysed. Results There were three faculties and three graduate students in the CEU, who altogether provided 272 consultations in 2008. 147 of the consultants were doctors (54.0%), and 90 were graduate students (33.1%). With regard to the content of consultation, 106 (39. 0%) were for bio-statistical methods, 96 (35. 3%) for project design, 36(13.2%) for paper writing and 24 (8.8%) for others. The professor of the CEU provided more consultation on project design (71/139, 51.1%) than assistant professors (22/151, 19.1%) and graduate students (3/18, 16.7%) (P<0.01). The assistant professors (66/151, 57.4%) and graduate students (10/18, 55.6%) provided consultation on bio-statistical methods more than the professor (30/139, 21.6%) (P<0. 01). Conclusion Doctors and graduate students in the general hospital need clinical research consultation service from the CEU. It is necessary and possible to establish a CEU in general hospital to meet the needs of clinical epidemiological consultation. The free consulting policy is effective in improving the accessibility and satisfaction of the consulting service.
4.Hedgehog signaling pathway and pancreatic cancer

Hedgehog (Hh) signaling is critical for embryonic development and in differentiation,proliferation,and maintenance of multiple adult tissues.Deregulation of the Hh pathway is associated with Multiple pathological steps of PDAC(Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma).A prominent desmoplastic stromal reaction is the pathological hallmark of PDAC,it contributes to the formation of the hypovascular and hypoxic microenvironment of PDAC.And Hedgehog signaling is one of the most crucial pathways that maintains and activates the stroma.Clinical trials of Hedgehog signaling inhibitors in treatment of PDAC has been conducted,but results have been disappointing.Recently,to undercover the reason of the failure of clinical trial,more work has been done to uncovering the underlying role of stroma in PDAC.
5.Progress of tumor-associated macrophages as an therapeutic target against tumors

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) exist in the tumor microenvironment,and can be affected by various anticancer treatments and further affect tumor progression.Increasing evidence suggests that many of the clinical antitumor measures can play a unique and effective antitumor effect by regulating the recruitment,polarization and related pro-tumor behavior of macrophages in the tumor microenvironment.Now,tumor microenvironment immune remodeling has become a hot spot in the research of anti-tumor therapy.This paper reviews the related research progress on antitumor effects of TAMs as an therapeutic target.
7.Effects of ozone aging on the color stability of SY-1 silicone elastomer

Objective:To study the effects of ozone aging on the color stability of the SY-1 silicone elastomer. Methods :40 SY-1 silicone elastomer samples were prepared and grouped into 4 with 10 in each group. The samples in each group were painted with gouache color, oil pigment and inorganic salt respectively, one group was used as the control. Then the samples were treated with ?=10 -4 % ozone at 10~16 mm/s for 72 h. The color of the samples were measured by 1976 CIE L *a *b * standards of chromatic aberration before and after ozone treatment. The chromatic aberration was expressed as △E=〔△L *)2+(△a *)2+(△b *)2〕 1/2. Results :After 72 hours of ozone aging, △E of the samples in the groups of control, gouache color, oil pigment and inorganic salt was 0.55?0.11, 3.55 ? 0.09, 1.40 ? 0.11 and 1.57 ? 0.07 respectively ;Conclusion:Under the ozone aging condition, the SY-1 silicone elastomers stained with oil pigment and inorganic salt may have better color stability than that with gouache color.

Objective To observe the anti-shock effect of rapid infusion of 7.5% sodium chloride(NaCl) in dog with hemorrhagic shock. Objective To study the clinical values of dynamic changes of yon Willebrand factor (vWF) and ADAMTS13 (a disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin repeats-13 ) in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods Twenty-nine patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted to Department of Neurosurgery from April 2010 through April 2011 were enrolled for retrospective study.They could be categorized into 3 sets of grouping:delayed cerebral ischemia group ( DCI group) and non-delayed cerebral ischemia group ( no DCI group ),cerebral vasospasm group ( CVS group ) and no vasospasm group (no CVS group),and good prognosis group and poor prognosis group,and another 20 healthy subjects as control group.All patients were examined with CT,DSA,or/and CTA to identify the intracranial subarachnoid hemorrhage resulted from aneurysm rupture.The exclusion criteria included:(1)the time from onset to admission was longer than 72 hours or patient was in imminent danger of death; (2)patients had surgery,interventiona] or conservative treatment outside the hospital; (3) patients were under the treatment of antiplatelet medicine such as aspirin,clopidogrel,or other anticoagulants such as warfarin,etc ; (4) patients had blood diseases,impaired kidney or liver function,pregnant,or with recent infections.Venous blood were taken one day,4 days and 10 days after SAH to determine plasma concentrations of ADAMTS13 and vWF by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) was used to measure mean blood flow velocity of middle cerebral artery (VMCA).Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) score was measured before discharge. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 13.0 software. Results The levels of vWF were significantly higher in DCI group,CVS group and poor prognosis group compared with those in the control group 1 day,4 days and 10 days after SAH.There were differences in vWF between DCI group and no DCI group 1 day and 4 days after SAH ( P < 0.05 ).There were significantly differences in vWF between CVS group and no CVS group,and between good prognosis group and poor prognosis group 4 days and 10 days after SAH ( P < 0.01 ).In DCI group and poor prognosis group,the level of plasma ADAMTS13 was significantly lower 1 day after SAH than that in the normal control group (P <0.01) and in the no DCI group (P <0.O1 ); and there were no differences in ADAMTS13 between CVS group and no CVS group.Conclusions In the early stage,the increase in plasma vWF and decrease in ADAMTS13 activity are associated with DCI,and the decrease in ADAMTS13 activity can be used to predict the outcome.
