The strength and endurance of quadriceps and hamstring muscles have been considered important in sports injury prevention and causation. The purpose of this study was to determine the isokinetic strength and endurance of those muscles of 54 elite male athletes (mean age 21.6 years) and 35 healthy males served as a control group (mean age 20.1 years) using a Cybex Ⅱ~+ system. Three testing speeds (60?/sec, 180?/sec and 240?/sec) were selected. The results indicated that the strength values of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles were significantlly higher in athletes than that in the control group (P

Objective To obtain genes encoding the novel molecules for diagnosis of schistosomiasis. Methods The cDNA library of Schistosoma japonicum (Sj) schistosomula of day 15 post-infection was screened with positive patients sera, and the inserts of positive clones were sequenced. Then the sequences were compared with all sequences in GenBank database by Internet. The positive clones were analyzed by the software in bioinformatics. Results After three rounds of screening,15 positive clones were obtained, and among them 11 clones had the meaningful sequences,in which 5 genes coding for Sj mitochondrion,1 gene coding for Sj myosin and the others were SjCHGC05315,SjCHGC01371,SjCHGC04782,SjCHGC05166,SjCHGC09769,respectively. Conclusion Immunological screening by using positive patients sera can be used to discover Sj antigen genes with a potential value for diagnosis.

Tetraspanin 2-A(SjTsp2-A) gene was amplified by PCR.pcDNA3.1(+)/SjTsp2-A recombinant plasmids were constructed and transformed into E.coli DH5?.Twenty four BALB/c mice were randomly divided into pcDNA3.1(+) /SjTsp2-A group(A),pcDNA3.1(+)/SjGST group(B) and pcDNA3.1(+) group(C).Each mouse was injected through musculus quadriceps femoris by three times(two weeks interval) respectively with 100 ?g pcDNA3.1(+)/SjTsp2-A,pcDNA3.1(+)/SjGST,or pcDNA3.1(+).At two weeks after the final inoculation, mice were each challenged by 40?2 cercariae of S.japonicum.Forty-five days after infection, all mice were sacrificed, the number of worms collected and eggs in liver tisssue was counted.Anti-pcDNA3.1(+)/SjTsp2-A antibody was detected by ELISA and protein expression in quadriceps muscle by immunohistochemical staining. The worm reduction rate(44.4%) and egg reduction rate(28.4%) of group A was higher than those of group B and C(P

Objective To investigate the present condition of unique copy of TCM ancient books, and analyze the literature value. Methods Bibliographic research was underwent first, then investigation table was made, investigation team for spot investigation was organized, the bibliography was sorted, and on this basis analysis of the literatures was performed. Results 59 collection units at home and abroad and 1370 unique copy TCM ancient books were investigated, which including 57 books published by photocopy and 37 books published by proof reading. Conclusion The unique copy TCM ancient books have important academic value and can be effectively saved and sorted through in-depth investigation and analysis.

Objective To discuss a simple and effective method of medial epicanthoplasty with the subcilliary incision, which can decrease the visible scar. Methods From January of 2007 to De-cember of 2008, 38 patients with epicanthal fold underwent epicanthoplasty using the new method. During the operation a skin incision was subcilliarily made outward from the original medial epican-thus. After elevating the flap and excising the orbicularis oculi muscle beneath the epieanthal fold, the new medial epicanthus was sutured to the designed point. Then subciliary incision was trimmed and sutured. Results Most of the patients obtained satisfactory results. Only one patient complained a-bout visible scarring and none required revision surgery. Scarring was avoided on the noticeable medial canthal region because the only incisions needed were subciliary incisions. Conclusions This method is simple to design and easy to perform. The operative results are effective without visible scars on the medial canthal region.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2010;26(2):165-168
Objective:To study the isolation, culture and identification of the TMJ cells and to observe the biological characteristics of cultured fibrochondrocytes. Methods:The TMJ discs were dissected from two 1 month goats under sterile conditions and were digested with collagenase. The cells were collected. Morphological changes and attachment efficiency were constantly observed under phase-contrast microscope. Immunohistochemical staining for type I collagen as well as toluidine blue staining were performed. Ultrastructures of the TMJ cells were observed under transmission electron microscope. Results: Most of the primary fibrochondrocytes presented a short spindle-shape while the rest showed polygon-shape. On the 7th day, the perliferating fibrochondrocytes started to contact each other to form a monolayer covering the bottom of the incubation disc. Immunohistochemical staining of type I and toluidine blue staining exhibited positive results. The fibrochondrocytes cytoplasms were rich in mictochondria and endoplasm reticulum. Conclusion: The fibrochondrcytes isolated from one-month-old goat TMJ disc have good proliferation ability in vitro and cells from passage 1 to 3 might be used as seed cells for TMJ disc tissue engineering.

BACKGROUND:There is no common cognition in the cell type in the temporomandibular joint(TMJ)discs, and names describing TMJ disc cells also vary a lot.OBJECTIVE:To characterize the type and the distribution of cells in the TMJ disc of goats DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A single sample observation was completed in Cettutar and Motecutar Biologicat Center and Electron Microscope Center of Lanzhou University from March to May in 2007.MATERlALS:TMJ discs were obtained from two one-month-old healthy goats that were slaughtered freshly.METHODS:Bilateral TMJ discs of goats were cut off completely and were divided into 6 parts by 3 cuts in the major axis direction (mediolaterally)and 2 cuts in the minor axis direction(anteroposteriorly). Then the marked samples were fixed in 10%neutral formalin Iiquid for 24 hours and embedded by paraffin.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Hematoxylin and eosin staining were used to identify regional variation of cell type and cellnumbers.Toluidine blue staining and collagen type Ⅰimmunohistochemical assay were performed to test the distribution of collagens.Transmission etectren microscopy was used to observe the ultrastructure of cells of goat TMJ discs.RESULTS:TMJ discs were comprised of cells and collagen fibers distributing unevenly.Collagens were mostly type Ⅰ.Collagen fibers were wave or crimping and approximately parallel to each other.with cells scattered in their matrix.Fibroblast-like cells and chondrocyte-like cells were the main two types of cells existing, with the former predominating over the later in a ratio of 2.05:1 approximately. There were no significant regional differences in cell type and distribution statistically.Transmission electron microscopy denoted that fibroblast-iike cells have fairly larger fusiform or irregular nuclei with very few organelles, while the chondrocyte-like cells exhibited round or elliptical nuclei, well defined pericellular electron lucent zones, unconspicuous cytocysta and non-distinctive pseudopodia CONCLUSION:There are no significant differences in type, number and arrangement of cells in TMJ discs of one-month-old goats statistically, with Fibroblast-like cells predominating slightly over chondrocyte-like cells.
