Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva(FOP) is a rare debilitating genetic disorder characterized by malformation of the great toes during embryonic skeletal development as well as progressive heterotopic ossification postnatally. There is no known definite treatment. Here presented a review of the recent advances in the potential FOP therapies.

OBJECTIVE:To observe the correlation of concentration-time curves of riboflavin in salive and plasma.METHOD:After peple orally taking riboflavin tablets,the riboflavin in salive was determinated by fluorescence spectrophotometry with excitation wavelength 475.4nm and emission wavelength 524.7nm.RESULTS:The recovery of riboflavin was over 96%.The detection limits of riboflavin was 5ng.ml-1,and the calibration curve was linear in the range of 5ng.ml-1～3μg.ml-1.The regression equation was △F′=0.116c+0.232(r=0.9999).CONCLUSION:The concentration-time curves of riboflavin in salive was similar to these in plasma.

Aim To examine subcellular localization of serotonin 5-HT2A receptor (5-HT2AR) and glutamate NMDA receptor in dorsal hippocampal CA1 area ( dCA1 ) and further explore the effect of systemic acti-vation of 5-HT2A R on hippocampal neuronal firing rate. Methods The distribution of 5-HT2A R and NMDA re-ceptor in the dCA1 region was detected with immune e-lectron microscopy after embedding. The effect of acti-vation of 5-HT2A R on the principal neuron and inter-neuron firing rates was examined with multichannel re-cording. Results 5-HT2A R immunoreactivity was ob-served in the dCA1 neurons, including rough endoplas-mic reticula and mitochondria, and the 5-HT2A R and glutamate NMDA receptors were colocalized in the syn-aptic membrane, vesicle and neurofilament of the hipp-ocampal neuron. 5-HT2A R activation increased princi-pal neuronal firing rate and the interneuronal firing rate was not changed. Conclusion The 5-HT2A R and NM-DA receptor are colocalized in dCA1 neurons, and acti-vation of 5-HT2A R increases hippocampal principal neuronal firing rate.

This experiment was carried out to demonstrate substance P (SP) and VIP in mast cells in human skin by double immunoenzymatic staining, and to examine SP, VIP and serotonin in mast cells in mouse skin by dual immunoflourescence method. The results were as follows:1. There were three types of mast cells in human skin by double immunoenzymatic staining: i. e. SP immunoreactive mast cells, VIP immunoreactive mast cells and mast cells with coexistence of SP and VIP. In comparison with toluidine blue staining, 8.32％ of mast cells were VIP immunoreactive; 14.51％ were SP immnuoreactive; 7.71％ were SP and VIP coexistence cells.2. Similar to human skin, SP, VIP immunoreactive mast cells and mast cells with coexistence of SP and VIP were found in mouse skin by dual immunoflourescence. They were 12.7％, 7.9％, and 10.3% of she toluidine bleu positive mast cells, respectively, which acounted to about 24.6％ of the toluidine blue positive mast cells.The possible significance of these results were discussed.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics,management and prognosis of choriocarcinorna in postmenopausal women. Methods Six cases of choriocarcinoma in postmenopausal women were reviewed retrospectively. Results Four cases in the 6 patients presented with abnormal vaginal bleeding. All of the six cases received chemotherapy and four cases underwent hysterectomy. Three cases achieved complete remission,one partial remission,one stable condition,and one disease progression.One case died,two cases lost follow-up and three cases survived as follow-up so far. Conclusion The diagnosis of pregnancy-related disease should be considered in the elderly women presenting with abnormal vaginal bleeding.Once diagnosed,chemotherapy should be given as soon as possible. Satisfactory effects can be achieved with a combination therapy of chemotherapy and surgery.

[bjective]This paper is about to expound the true meaning of the 374th clause of Treatise on Febrile Diseases. [Methods] Under the guidance of dynamic thinking of Treatise on Febrile Diseases, with the help of other clauses about Zaoshi syndrome, Small Decoction for Ordering the Qi, Gardenia and Prepared Soybean Decoction, to understand the 374th clause.[Results] The 374th clause is not alone, it should be combined with the 375th clause, they tell us when we treat the combination of Shi and Re syndrome of Yangming disease, we should use Small Decoction for Ordering the Qi first, then use Gardenia and Prepared Soybean Decoction. At the same time if we want to understand the 374th clause, we should combine it with the 368th clause to 375th clause, it tells us the treatment and difference between the diarrhea of cold, wet heat, Shi and Re, deficient heat etc. [Conclusion]This clause institutes the principle of the treatment for Shi and Re syndrome of Yangming disease, completing the system of treating diarrhea. It also tells us how to combine two decoctions.

Objective To evaluate fixation of anatomic plate by comparing ou tc omes of surgery and conservative therapy for proximal humeral fractures. Methods 24 cases of proximal humeral fractures were fixed with anatomic plate, lag scre ws and kirschner wire. 19 cases were managed with conservative therapy of manual reduction and external wood splint fixation. The results were evaluated by Neer classification and Constant-murley scoring system. Results All the case were f ollowed up 10 to 19 months(averaging 11.5 months). In the 24 operated cases, 11 patients were graded as excellent, 8 as good, 4 as fair, 1 as poor. In the 19 ca ses of conservative therapy, 6 patients were graded as excellent, 7 as good, 6 a s fair, most of which were Neer types Ⅲand Ⅳ. The operative treatment produced better outcome than the censervative treatment ,far the difference was statisti cally significant(P

[Objective]To evaluate and compare the effects of fibial-tibial fracture(FTF) treated by interlocking intramedullary nail (I I N group A) and intramedullary expand expanded self-lock nail (IESN group B).[Method]From June 2000 to September 2003,one hundred sixteen cases of FTF were treated by I I N(N=60)or IESN (N=56) and followed-up for 12~24 months (average 17.9 months).Results were compared between group A and group B.[Result]In group A,the satisfactory rate,union rate,close reduction rate,medullary expanding rate,complication rate and antirotation ability were 89.5%, 96.7%, 71.6%, 51.6%,21.6% and +++ respectively.In group B,that were correspondently 91.0%,98.5%,89.3%,5.3%,3% and +.[Conclusion]Adopting the biological osteosynthesis either the I I N or IESN for treatment of FTF could get a result of more satisfactory rate and higer union rate.Applying a stable fixation,the IESN is more suitable for instable FTF.Such as multisegmental or comminuted targe oblique FTF,while of fering a flexible fixation,IESN is preferable for transverse fractures of middle and lower third tibia and fibula.

[Objective]To explore the methods and effects of closed reduction and percutaneous internal fixation to treat intercondylar fractures of humerus.[Method]From 2001,3 to 2004,9 we selectively treated 6 cases(group A) of Rise-Borough Ⅱ,Ⅲ type of humeral intercondylar fractures with closed reduction and percutaneous internal fixation with hollow screw and Kirschner's wire.Others(group B) treated with opened reduction and internal fixation with plates and screws.[Result]Following up 6～12 months,the outcome were evaluated with Aitken and Rorabeek rating system.Group A:5 patients were graded as excellent,1 as good.Group B:7 patients were graded as excellent,7 as good,1 as fair,1 as poor.[Conclusion]To treat Rise-Borough Ⅱ,Ⅲ type of humeral intercondylar fractures with closed reduction and percutaneous internal fixation with hollow screw and Kirschner's wire,can decrease iatrogenic impairment,receive reliable fixation and early functional exercise.The fracture union quickly,and the patient has excellent joint function and less postoperative complication.

Objective:To investigate the expression of dental matrix protein 1(DMP1)in carious human permanent teeth and its possible role during the reparative process after pulp injury.Methods:10 of noncarious third molars (NC),10 of shallow carious (SC),10 of intermediate carious (IC) and 10 of deep carious (DC) were prepared for the detection of DMP1 in odontoblasts by immunohistochemical staining. DMP1 expression in odontoblasts was analyzed by image analysis system and expressed as integral optical density (IOD).Results:DMP1 was majorly detected in cytoplasms and processes of odontoblasts and odontoblast-like cells.The IOD values in the groups of NC,SC,IC and DC were 0.265?0.018,0.309?0.021,0.678?0.031 * and 0.691? 0.033 * respectively;that in the reparative dentin in DC group was 0.856?0.045 ** ( *vs NC P
