Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2011;17(4):352-354
ObjectiveTo discuss the relationship between sit-to-stand velocity and dynamic and static balance respectively in stroke patients.Methods22 stroke patients were measured their time for Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSTS scores) and the static balance performance as well as swaying of center of gravity in lateral directions was recorded with GS-10A. In addition, the distances of functional reach test (FRT) when sitting were measured.ResultsBy using Pearson's correlation coefficient, FTSTS scores showed the moderate correlation with hemiparetic side, ENV. Area and distance of sitting FRT (r=-0.512, P<0.05;r=0.632, P<0.05;r=-0.662, P<0.01). Linear regression model, in terms of balance ability, showed the main factors associated with the sit to stand velocity were the distance of sitting FRT and ENV.Area. ConclusionENV.Area and distance of sitting FRT are the main factors associated with sit to stand velocity and both static and dynamic balance can predict sit to stand velocity.

[Objective] The present study aimed to determine the protective role of Melatonin (MT) against Acrylamide (AA)-induced testicular toxicity and the potential molecular mechanism.[Methods] The animals were randomly divided into three groups, the control group (n =12),the AA group (n =12) and the AA+MT group (n =12).The rats in the AA and AA + MT group were gavaged with AA at a dose of 15 mg/(kg · day) for 4 consecutive weeks. After 3 weeks of AA treatment,MT was intraperitoneally injected 30 minutes before AA treatment at 10 mg/(kg· day) for 1 week in the AA + MT rats.Subsequently, the mitochondrial membrane potential measurement,TUNEL assay,Western blot and electron microscopic techniques were applied in the present study.[Results] The results showed that AA could decrease the testis mitochondrial membrane potential (P < 0.05) which could be recovered by MT (P < 0.05).Moreover,MT induced down-regulation of Bax expression and up-regulation of Bcl-2 expression in the testis, compared with AA rats. The amelioration of testicular apoptosis was further confirmed by the TUNEL labeling.Western blot results suggested that the decreased ratios of Bcl-2/Bax and Bcl-xL/Bak in the AA group (both P < 0.05) could be recovered by MT treatment (both P < 0.05).The levels of Cyt-c,Casp-3,p53 and NF-κB in AA group were markedly elevated compared with the control (all P < 0.05),and reduced in MT treatment group (all P < 0.05).MT could relieve abnormal mitochondrial structures in the seminiferous tubule in the electron microscopic level.[Conclusion] MT may exert productive effect through its anti-apoptotic properties associated with mitochondria.

OBJECTIVETo compare the periodontal indices and Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) between the use of self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets.
METHODSThirty patients were divided into 2 groups(n=15). Self-ligating brackets were used in the experimental group. Conventional brackets were used in the control group. Clinical periodontal indices, including plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI) and probing depth (PD) of observed teeth were examined at three different time points: Before orthodontic treatment, the first month after treatment and the third month after treatment. Subgingival plaques were collected simultaneously at each time point. The number of total bacteria and P. gingivalis in each sample were detectd and quantitated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, the percentage of P. gingivalis in total bacteria was obtained.
RESULTSBefore treatment, the periodontal indices and the percentage of P. gingivalis in total bacteria had no difference between the two groups (P>0.05). After 1 and 3 months respectively, the periodontal indices and the percentage of P. gingivalis in total bacteria increased with time (P<0.05) and were obviously lower than those of the control group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONCompared with conventional brackets, the self-ligating brackets are better for periodontal health. But it is adverse effect on oral health.

Objective:To analyze the current situation of health education among medical staff at all levels of hospitals in Beijing, for references in improving the level of hospital health education. Methods:From July to November 2022, a stratified random sampling method was used to select medical staff from hospitals at all levels in Beijing as the survey subjects. A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the frequency of health education conducted by medical staff in six dimensions. The Likert 5-level scoring method was used to assign scores to the frequency of health education, and latent profile analysis was conducted on each score to explore the categories of health education conducted by medical staff.Results:2 792 questionnaires were effectively collected, among which 2 792 medical staff were surveyed, including 1 009 doctors, 1 609 nurses, and 174 technicians and pharmacists. The scores for the frequency of health education conducted in six dimensions: health education in the media or outside the hospital, health knowledge lectures in the hospital, outpatient health education, inpatient health education, health education during follow-up, and health prescriptions were (1.45±0.68) points, (1.68±1.01) points, (2.65±1.65) points, (2.76±1.74) points, (3.24±1.58) points, and (2.59±1.71) points respectively. According to latent profile analysis, healthcare personnel conducting health education could be divided into four categories: low development group (46.6%, 1 300 people), high development group (4.6%, 129 people), inpatient/follow-up development group (19.4%, 541 people), and outpatient/follow-up development group (29.4%, 822 people). The hospital level and profession of medical personnel in each category were different, and the differences were statistically significant( P<0.001). Conclusions:Medical staff in Beijing mainly carry out health education at such stages as patient follow-up, inpatient, and outpatient, but there is insufficient health education accessible in the media or outside the hospital. There are differences in the health education situation of medical personnel at different levels of hospitals and professions. It is recommended to build an efficient health education management system, actively explore new media-based health education channels, and reasonably allocate health education resources to comprehensively improve the health education of medical staff.

Asian Nursing Research 2023;17(2):70-82
Purpose:
To evaluate the incidence and identify the risk factors for radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis among patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Methods:
A meta-analysis was conducted. Eight electronic databases (Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, and Chinese Scientific Journals Database) were systematically searched from inception to 4 March 2023 for relevant studies. Study selection and data extraction were conducted by two independent authors. The Newcastle‒Ottawa scale was used for quality assessment among the included studies. Data synthesis and analyses were performed in R software package version 4.1.3 and Review Manager Software 5.4. The pooled incidence was calculated using proportions with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), and the risk factors were evaluated using the odds ratio (OR) with 95% CIs. Sensitivity analysis and predesigned subgroup analyses were also conducted.
Results:
A total of 22 studies published from 2005 to 2023 were included. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the incidence of radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis was 99.0% among nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, and the incidence of severe radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis was 52.0%. Poor oral hygiene, overweight before radiotherapy, oral pH < 7.0, the use of oral mucosal protective agents, smoking, drinking, combined chemotherapy, and the use of antibiotics at early treatment stage are risk factors for severe radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. Sensitivity analysis and subgroup analyses also revealed that our results are stable and reliable.
Conclusions
Almost all patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma have suffered from radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis, and more than half of patients have experienced severe oral mucositis. Facilitating oral health might be the key focus of reducing the incidence and severity of radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis among nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.Registration numberCRD42022322035.
