AIM:To analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.METHODS:We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey in December 2022 on all students of a university in Shaanxi Province, and the questionnaire included socio-demographic characteristics, mobile phone addiction, high myopia, and lifestyle. Binary Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.RESULTS:A total of 19 952 college students were included. The prevalence of high myopia was 7.31%. The rate of mobile phone addiction was 25.68%, and the mobile phone addiction score was 37.59±13.38. The incidence of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was higher than non-mobile phone addiction(P<0.001). After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and lifestyle, the risk of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was 1.274 times(95%CI:1.131-1.434)higher than non-mobile phone addiction. For each point increase of total mobile phone addiction score, withdrawal symptoms score, salience score, social comfort score, and mood changes score, the risk of high myopia among college students increased by 0.9%(95%CI:1.005-1.013), 2.0%(95%CI:1.010-1.030), 2.6%(95%CI:1.010-1.043), 4.8%(95%CI:1.030-1.066), and 3.3%(95%CI:1.014-1.052), respectively.CONCLUSION:Mobile phone addiction is significantly associated with the increased risk of high myopia among college students, and early intervention of mobile phone use may reduce the risk of high myopia among college students.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the primary fibrogenic cells in the liver, and their activation plays a crucial role in the development and progression of hepatic fibrosis. Here, we report that retinoid X receptor-alpha (RXRα), a unique member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, is a key modulator of HSC activation and liver fibrosis. RXRα exerts its effects by modulating calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase β (CaMKKβ)-mediated activation of AMP-activated protein kinase-alpha (AMPKα). In addition, we demonstrate that K-80003, which binds RXRα by a unique mechanism, effectively suppresses HSC activation, proliferation, and migration, thereby inhibiting liver fibrosis in the CCl4 and amylin liver NASH (AMLN) diet animal models. The effect is mediated by AMPKα activation, promoting mitophagy in HSCs. Mechanistically, K-80003 activates AMPKα by inducing RXRα to form condensates with CaMKKβ and AMPKα via a two-phase process. The formation of RXRα condensates is driven by its N-terminal intrinsic disorder region and requires phosphorylation by CaMKKβ. Our results reveal a crucial role of RXRα in liver fibrosis regulation through modulating mitochondrial activities in HSCs. Furthermore, they suggest that K-80003 and related RXRα modulators hold promise as therapeutic agents for fibrosis-related diseases.

Rice is the world's largest food crop, and its yield and quality are directly related to food security and human health. Grain size, as one of the important factors determining the rice yield, has been widely concerned by breeders and researchers for a long time. To decipher the regulatory mechanism of rice grain size, we obtained a multi-tiller, dwarf, and small-grain mutant htd1 by ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) mutation from the Japonica rice cultivar 'Zhonghua 11' ('ZH11'). Genetic analysis indicated that the phenotype of htd1 was controlled by a single recessive gene. Using the mutation site map (Mutmap) method, we identified the candidate gene OsHTD1, which encoded a carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase involved in the biosynthesis of strigolactone (SL). The SL content in htd1 was significantly lower than that in 'ZH11'. Cytological analysis showed that the grain size of the mutant decreased due to the reductions in the length and width of glume cells. The function of htd1 was further verified by the CRISPR/cas9 gene editing technology. The plants with the gene knockout exhibited similar grain size to the mutant. In addition, gene expression analysis showed that the expression levels of multiple grain size-related genes in the mutant changed significantly, suggesting that HTD1 may interact with other genes regulating grain size. This study provides a new theoretical basis for research on the regulatory mechanism of rice grain size and potential genetic resources for breeding the rice cultivars with high yields.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of albumin bound paclitaxel(nab-PTX)and solvent based paclitaxel(sb-PTX)in neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NACT)for advanced epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 107 patients with advanced EOC who un-derwent preoperative NACT in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from June 11,2018 to Sep-tember 19,2023.Among them,52 patients were treated with nab-PTX combined with carboplatin intravenous chemotherapy(nab-PTX group),and 55 with sb-PTX combined with carboplatin intravenous chemotherapy(sb-PTX group). The clinical indicators after NACT,intraoperative conditions of cytoreductive surgery and ad-verse events during the NACT were compared in two groups. Results:The maximum tumor diameter(3.7 cm vs.3.8 cm),CA125(28.9 U/ml vs.31.6 U/ml)and HE4(102.5 U/ml vs.119.0 U/ml)levels in the nab PTX group after NACT were significantly lower than those in the sb-PTX group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.001).After NACT,the total input(2580 ml vs.2100 ml),the proportion of surgical complexity score(36.54%vs.18.18%),and lymph node resection rate(57.69%vs.29.09%)in the nab-PTX group were significantly higher than those in the sb-PTX group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)in the amount of ascites, clinical efficacy evaluation,ORR,DCR,surgical time, intraoperative bleeding, total output, postoperative hospital stays, surgical satisfaction, pathological complete response rate(pCR),transfu-sion of blood products, lymph node metastasis and adverse effects during NACT between the two groups.Con-clusions:Nab-PTX has a better clinical disease control effect than sb-PTX in NACT,in order to achieve better cy-toreductive surgery, but it has no significant effect on pathological remission. The safety of the two drugs is similar.
