Journal of Chinese Physician 2008;10(11):1441-1443
Objective To explore the relationship of DNA damage and cell apoptosis in the blood vessel endothelial cell of diabetic rats. Methods Streptozotocin was used to make diabetic rats, 16 rats were random divided into diabetic group and control group. DNA damage was measured by comet assay and cell apoptosis was detected by flow eytometry. Results DNA damage score was 29.5 ± 6.7 and 8.6±3.6 in diabetic rats and controls, the rate of cell apoptosis was respectively 10.9±3.5 and 4.4 ± 1.2. It had a significant difference between two groups in DNA damage and cell apoptosis(P < 0.05). The rat of cell apoptosis had strongly positive correlation with DNA dam-age scores (r = 0.82, P < 0.05). Conclusion DNA damage and cell apoptosis are found in diabetes mellitus, cell apoptosis may be asso-ciated with DNA damage. The roles of DNA damage and cell apoptosis in diabetes mellitus need further research.
2.Clinical observation on deep-oblique acupuncture with long needle at Guanyuan (CV 4) for urinary retention.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2013;33(12):1071-1075
OBJECTIVETo observe differences of clinical therapeutic effects between deep-oblique acupuncture with long needle and regular perpendicular acupuncture at Guanyuan (CV 4) for urinary retention to explore standard acupuncture method in clinic.
METHODSOne hundred and thirty-two cases of urinary retention were randomly divided into an observation group (78 cases) and a control group (54 cases). Needles with 75 mm in length were deeply and obliquely inserted into Guanyuan (CV 4) in the observation group while needles with 40 mm in length were perpendicularly inserted. Clinical therapeutic effects in two groups were observed.
RESULTSAfter treatment the total effective rate was 80.8% (63/78) in the observation group and 57.4% (31/54) in the control group, which had significant difference between two groups (P<0.05). The curative effect of postpartum retention of urine was obviously superior to that of postoperative and prostate-induced urinary retention in the ebservation group, and the effect of urinary retention due to different etiology in the observation was also superior to that in the control group in the ebservation group [in the observation group total effective rate was 88.6% (47/53) in postpartum retention of urine, 50.0% (3/6) in prostate-induced urinary retention and 68.4% (13/19) in orthopedic postoperative retention of urine while in the control group total effective rate was 69.4% (25/36) in postpartum retention of urine, 20.0% (1/5) in prostate-induced urinary retention and 38.5% (5/13) in orthopedic postoperative retention of urine)].
CONCLUSIONThe deep-oblique acupuncture with long needle at Guanyuan (CV 4) has significant curative effect on urinary retention in clinic, especially for patients with postpartum urinary retention, which could be taken as standard acupuncture method.

4.Clinical Effect of Local Prophylactic Application of MTX in Laparoscopic Linear Salpingostomy
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2006;0(12):-
Objective To explore the clinical effect of local prophylactic application of methotrexate(MTX) in laparoscopic linear salpingostomy. Methods The data of 102 women with confirmed unruptured tubal pregnancy and desire to conceive were collected. They were divided into two groups: the study group(local application of MTX in the operation,n=51) and the control group(without application of MTX,n=51).The demographic data, the incidence of persistent ectopic pregnancy(PEP)postoperation, and the hysterosalpingography(HSG) 3 months(postoperation) were analysed, and the side effects of the study group were observed. Results There was 1 case of PEP in the study group and 9 cases in the control group(2.0% vs 17.6%,P0.05).There were no obvious side effects such as nausea, vomit and dental ulcer in the study group. Conclusion Patients who were treated with local MTX injection during the laparoscopic linear salpingostomy present less incidence of PEP with no obvious side effects.

Objective To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of replantation of fingertips distal to the middle nail. Methods Between August 2001 and August 2005,16 fingertips amputated in the Ishikawa zoneⅠwere replanted. We anastomosed only the digital arteries, and adopted postoperative bloodletting. Results Fourteen fingertips survived, and two failed. The survival rate was 87.5%.Of the 14 successfully replanted fin- gertips,12 were followed up from 3 to 12 months. The length and appearance of the fingertips recovered and good joint motion were maintained.Their two-point discriminations ranged from 3 to 6 mm.Conclusion Fingertip replantation is an optimal treatment for fingertip amputation distal to the middle nail to regain satisfactory appearance and function of the digits with a high survival rate, but severe crush injury to the amputated part and high cost should be taken into consideration.

BACKGROUND:Alginate-chitosan microcapsule can improve the mechanical property of sodium alginate hydrogels. How to obtain the ideal sodium alginate-chitosan microcapsule and the prospect for application of the microcapsule system is the key to this study.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the preparation method and formation mechanism of alginate-chitosan microcapsules, to analyze several important factors affecting the strength of the microcapsule membrane, and to explore the prospects of alginate-chitosan microcapsules in immobilized celltechnology, in tissue engineering and as a drug carrier.
METHODS:The first author searched PubMed, Elsevier ScienceDirect, CNKI and Wanfang database (1987/2013) to retrieve literatures about the preparation method, formation mechanism and application prospect of alginate-chitosan microcapsules.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Sodium alginate hydrogels have many advantages in drug release and tissue engineering, but its application is limited by gel dissolution phenomena and deficiencies in its mechanical properties. Chitosan-alginate microcapsules make up for the deficiency of sodium alginate hydrogels by electrostatic interactions to form polyelectrolyte complexes. By control ing the nature of the chitosan solution--the molecular weight of chitosan, pH and concentration of chitosan solution, we can prepare the microcapsules with high film strength. Alginate-chitosan microcapsules have shown broad application prospects in immobilization technology, drug release and tissue engineering.

A comparison of plant and animal stem cells can highlight core aspects of stem-cell biology. In both kingdoms, stem cells are defined by their clonogenic properties and are maintained by intercellular signals. The signaling molecules are different in plants and animals stem cell niches, but the roles of argonaute and polycomb group proteins suggest that there are some molecular similarities.

Tianjin Medical Journal 2009;37(12):1020-1022
Objective: To evaluate the relationship between the change of left ventricular mass and arterial stiffness in the aged patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods: The pulse wave velocity (PWV) and left ventricular mass index(LVMI)were used to estimate the left ventricular mass and arterial stiffness. The relationship between LVMI and PWV and other influencing factors were evaluated with univariate analysis and stepwise regressive analysis in 105 patients with diabetes mellitus. The value of PWV was compared in the subjects of the left ventricular hypertrophy and the non- left ventricular hypertrophy groups. Results: LVMI was positively correlated with PWV, systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure, medical history and body mass index (the values of r were 0.821, 0.792, 0.799, 0.664 and 0.241 respectively,P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). A stepwise regression analysis was used to assess the combined influence of variables on left ventricular hypertrophy. The model included the following variables: PWV, systolic blood pressure and diabetes mellitus medical history. PWV value was significantly higher in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy than that of the patients without left ventricular hypertrophy(t = 9.109,P < 0.01). Conclusion: The increased arterial stiffness is one of the important factors which lead to the increased left ventricular mass index in aged patients with diabetes mellitus.
