Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis 2008;20(3):193-197
Organics of the phthalocyanine category have very good nonlinear optical properties. The single-walled carbon nanotubes were modified by using the phenoxy phthalocyanine. Characterization analysis was made by means of the transmission electron microscope (TEM), ultraviolet visible absorptive spectra, fluorescent spectra and Raman spectra. Under the TEM, it was observed that the composite looked like sugarcoated haws. By comparing the ultraviolet visible absorptive spectra before and after absorption, it was disclosed that the spectral intensity and the intensity of the peaks in the fluorescent spectra dropped remarkably. This shows that the single-walled carbon nanotubes have absorbed a large number of phenoxy phthalocyanines. Raman analysis revealed that in the Raman spectra, the position of the main peaks of the single-walled carbon nanotubes after absorption moved in the direction of long waves. The analysis suggests that the movement of the Raman spectra results from the change in the state of the single-walled carbon nanotubes before and after absorption.

Objective To investigate the role of SCF on neuronal apoptosis induced by diabetes and its possible mechanism. Methods Twenty-seven male C57 mice were randomly divided into control group, diabetes group, and diabe-tes plus stem cell factor(SCF)group. The diabetic mice were induced by streptozotocin.TUNEL staining was used to assess neuronal apoptosis and western blot were used to detect the protein level of BCL-2,BAX,CASPASE 3 and P-ERK/ERK.Results Compared with the controls, the number of apoptotic neuron death and the protein levels of active CASPASE 3 were significantly increased in the cortex of diabetic mice.Treatment with SCF significantly reduced apoptotic neuron death and attenuated the increased in protein levels of active CASPASE 3 in the cortex of diabetic mice. The levels of BCL-2 and BAX were significantly increased in the diabetic animals compared to the controls.Treatment with SCF could significantly attenuated the increase in the expression of BAX but could not affect the level of BCL-2 in the cortex of diabetic mice.P-ERK was significantly decreased in the diabete group but not in dibete plus SCF group. Conclusions SCF can protect a-gainst diabete-induced apoptotic neuron death through increasing the phosphorylation of ERK and influencing the expression of BCL-2/BAX.

Objective To evaluate the mammographic characteristics of primary lymphoma of the breast and to correlate the imaging features with the histopathologic findings. Methods We retrospectively reviewed records in 27 patients with histologically proven primary malignant lymphoma of the breast.Mmammography was performed before surgery in 14 cases. The clinical, pathologic, and imaging features were retrospectively reviewed and correlated in these 14 patients. All patients were female, with the mean age of 41.5 years (range 28-56).The lesion was in the right breast in 7 patients, the left in 6, and bilateral in 1.Results Histology revealed 13 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and 1 Hodgkin lymphoma (HL).In primary lymphoma, mammography revealed a unilateral solitary mass in 9 cases, unilateral multiple masses in 2 cases, bilateral multiple masses in 1 case, and unilateral diffusely increased opacity with skin thickening in 2 cases. The diameter of the masses ranged from 0.7 cm to 5.0 cm (mean 2.6 cm). Of the total 18 masses, the margins of the masses were well defined in 13, and partially defined in 5.Neither calcifications nor spiculations nor adjacent skin retraction were seen.Of the 13 NHL, histologic examination showed diffuse NHL in 12 cases and follicular NHL in 1.No mammographic features were identified that could helped distinguish follicular from diffuse NHL.Conclusion Primary lymphoma of the breast usually presents with clinical and mammographic findings mimicking a carcinoma or benign tumor.Although the clinical and imaging characteristics may suggest the possibility of breast NHL, none of the findings are pathognomonic. The final diagnosis depends on histopathology.

Objective To study the gene polymorphism at position padi4_94 in Chinese Han people of Hebei Province and the characters of distribution. Methods 106 healthy individuals and 115 rheumatoid arthritis patients in Hebei Province were randomly selected. Padi4_94 gene was screened by sequencing of the promotor. The correlations between the SNP site and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP) was discussed. Results There were three genotypes: AA, AG and GG in Chinese Han people of Hebei Province. No significant differences of gene frequency and allele gene frequency were found between healthy individuals and RA patients, and no correlation between SNP and the production of anti-CCP.Conclusions Hebei Province The gene polymorphisms at position padi4_94 existed in Chinese Han people of Hebei Province, but possibly would not affect RA susceptibility and the production of anti-CCP.

Objective To study the imaging features of primary mediastinal cysts, and to improve the diagnostic ability of these diseases. Methods The imaging findings of primary mediastinal cysts proved by pathlolgy in 42 cases were retrospectively. All of cases underwent posteroanterior and lateral views of chest. The plain and contrast-enhanced CT scans were performed in 28 and 15 cases.MRI examination was done in 6 cases. The location, size, shape, density, edge, wall and adjacent structures of the primary mediastinal cysts were observed.According to imaging features all of cases was divided into typical group and atypical group. Results The mediastinal cysts were located in anterior mediastinum in 28 cases,in middle mediastinum in 7 cases,in posterior mediastinum in 7cases.Bronchogenic cyst was in 9 cases.Cystic lymphangioma was in 4 cases.Thymic cyst was in 11 cases.Pericardial cyst was in 5 cases.Mature cystic teratoma was in 13 cases. The typical group was in 38 cases. The atypical group was in 4 cases. Conclusion 90% of the typical primary mediastinal cysts can be diagnosed. The final diagnosis of the atypical group desponds on pathology.
