Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of thumb-tack needle therapy for senile recurrent oral ulcer of yin deficiency and fire excess type. Method Sixty patients cancer pain were allocated, using a random number table, to observation and control groups,30 cases each. The control group gargled with 10 mL compound chlorhexidine mouthwash 5 min twice daily and the observation group received thumbtack needle therapy 6 hrs once daily, on the left and right sides alternately, in addition to treatment given to the control group. The course of treatment was five days in both groups. The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated after the completion of treatment. The TCM symptom score and the VAS score were recorded before and after treatment. A comparative analysis was carried out. Result The total efficacy rate was 96.7%in the observation group and 83.3%in the control group. It was higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). The TCM symptom score and the VAS score decreased in the observation and control groups after treatment compared with before (P<0.05, P<0.01). They decreased more in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Thumbtack needle therapy has a definite effect on senile recurrent oral ulcer of yin deficiency and fire excess type. It can relieve TCM clinical symptoms and pains in the patients.

Cognitive impairment caused by ischemic stroke is becoming more and more concerned.It is crucial to explore its pathophysiological mechanism and related clinical predictive indexes for understanding the occurrence,development and treatment of the disease.This article discusses the pathophysiologic mechanism of cognitive impairment after stroke from the aspects of white matter damage,amyloid abnormal deposition,blood-brain barrier damage,and synaptic plasticity injury,and reviews the risk factors,imaging and biological markers that can be used to predict cognitive impairment after stroke.

Cocaine-and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART), an endogenous neuropeptide, is widely distributed in human organs and tissues, such as brain, gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. It has a variety of important physiological functions, including eating and obesity, stress, mental anxiety, drug addition, and endocrine regulation. Previous studies have suggested that CART is widely distributed in the central nervous system, and it involves in the regulation of a variety of physiological processes and has some central protective effects. It is a potential neuroprotective agent. This article reviews the recent progress in research on the neuroprotective effect of CART on stroke and neurodegenerative disease and its mechanisms, as well as its therapeutic effect in central nervous system diseases.

Objective To investigate the effects of CO 2 pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) on pulmonary functions in chronic pulmonary failure rabbits and their mechanisms. Methods A total of 50 healthy male rabbits ( oryctolagus cuniculus ) were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control group (N 0: n=5, no pneumoperitoneum), experimental control group (T 0: n=5, no pneumoperitoneum), 10 mmHg experimental group (T 10 : n=20, 10 mmHg pneumoperitoneum) and 15 mmHg experimental group (T 15 : n=20, 15 mmHg pneumoperitoneum). After the successful establishment of emphysema rabbit models, CO 2 pneumoperitoneum was conducted and maintained for 2 hours at the pressure of 10 mmHg (1.33 kPa) and 15 mmHg (2.00 kPa), respectively. Pulmonary functions (total respiratory resistance, central resistance and total airway resistance) of the 4 groups were measured by pulse oscillation technique before and after the pneumoperitoneum, respectively. Results Total respiratory resistance, central resistance and total airway resistance increased after the establishment of emphysema models. Objective To explore the expression of cathepsin L in hepatocellular carcinoma and to analyze its relationship with clinical and pathological features. Methods Fifty-eight specimens of hepatocellular carcinoma were studied, including 18 well-differentiated, 18 moderately differentiated and 22 poorly differentiated. Classified by TNM clinical stage, 26 were in Ⅰ/Ⅱ stage and 32 in Ⅲ/Ⅳ stage. The expressions of cathepsin L were detected with immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. Their relationship with the clinical and pathological features of hepatocellular carcinoma was analyzed. Results The positive rate of cathepsin L protein was 72.4% (42/58), and the expressions of cathepsin L protein were significantly different among the specimens of pathological grades of tumor, of TNM clinical stages and with/without metastasis. The positive rate of cathepsin L mRNA was 65.5% (38/58). The expression of cathepsin L mRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma was correlated with pathological grades of tumor, TNM clinical stages and lymph node metastasis. Conclusion Cathepsin L plays an important role in the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma for its correlation with infiltration and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma. Cathepsin L can be used as a useful marker for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma patients.
