Objective To explore the preventive effects of simvastatin on ischemic-type biliary lesion (ITBL) after liver transplantation. Methods Totally 90 female SD rats,6 to 8 weeks old, weighing 200 to 250 g,were randomly divided into 3 groups,sham-operation group (n=10),control group (n=40,including 20 donors and 20 receipts),and experimental group (n=40,including 20 donors and 20 receipts). Rat liver transplantation was established by reconstructing hepatic artery. The rats of experimental group were fed with a normal chow containing 0.1% simvastatin for 1 week before operation and for 2 weeks after operation. The donor liver was stored in the University of Wisconsin solution at 4 ℃ for 12 h followed by transplantation. The animals were killed in 2 weeks after operation and the bile, bile duct and liver tissue were taken. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to detect the concentrations of bile salts. Biochemistry, histopathology, immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR were employed to measure the level of phospholipids C,observe the pathological changes of liver, detect the protein and mRNA expressions of phospholipid transfer protein (Mdr2 P-glycoprotein). Results The biliary phospholipid composition of rats in the experimental group (3.874 8?1.414 8 mg/dl) was significantly increased, compared with the sham-operation group (1.982 1?0.413 5 mg/dl) and the control group (1.428 5?0.538 7 mg/dl) (P

Objective To study the pathological, ultrastructural and immunohistochemical features of kidney oncocytoma (RO). Methods The clinical and histological features of 13 patients (5 men and 8 women;mean age,58 years, age 44 -78 years) with RO were observed.Immunohistochemical staining was performed on paraffin-embedded tissues with a panel of antibodies including vimentin,EMA,ckpan,CK7,CK18,E-cadherin,CD10,RCC,CD117,34βE12,HMB45,s-100 and Ki-67.Of the 13 cases,10were found incidentally during a health examination while the other three cases presented with lumbago and discomfort of the lumber.Four cases were analyzed by electron microscopy.Eleven were treated with radical nephrectomy and 2 with partial nephrectomy. Results Histologically, the tumor cells were mainly arranged in closely packed nests, aciniform or tubule with an occasional microcystic pattern in loose edematous hypocellular fibrous stroma.Tumor cells had moderate to abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm with a small, round and uniform nucleus containing finely and evenly dispersed chromati. However, focal nuclear atypia were observed with no mitotic activity.Immunohistochemically, all cases were diffusely positive for CK18 and showed variable immunoreactivity for E-cadherin,CD117,CD10 and CK7.Twelve cases were positive for EMA. All cases were negative for vimentin,34βE12,HMB45 and s-100.The proliferative index (Ki-67) was very low in all cases, with less than 1% of the nuclei labeled.Electronic microscopy showed the cytoplasm had abundant mitochondria with lamellar cristae.Follow-up on 10 patients ( range from 2 to 67months) showed no recurrence or metastasis. Conclusions Tumor cells arranged in nests with loose hypocellu]ar and edematous stroma is the most important histological feature of RO.The immunohistochemical features could be helpful for both diagnosis and differential diagnosis.

OBJECTIVEWe aims to evaluate the therapeutic effect of maxillary protraction on maxillary maldevelopment using Coben analysis to illustrate the advantages of Coben analysis in identifying pathogenic mechanisms and in designing treatment plans for Class III malocclusions.
METHODSA total of 120 patients were diagnosed to have skeletal Class I maloc- clusions with maxillary maldevelopment. These patients were selected as the subjects of the present research. Maxillary protraction was exerted to promote maxilla growth. Cephalometric analysis was conducted by using Coben analysis and angle analyses of Beijing Medical University to collect data before and after maxillary protraction.
RESULTSAccording to Coben analysis measurements, the height of facies cranii increased after maxillary protraction. The depth of lower face decreased, whereas that of mid-face increased and the Ptm-A value increased significantly in the mid-face (P < 0.001). In the angle ana- lysis of Beijing Medical University, SNA, ANB, U1/NA, U1/SN, MP/SN, and Y-axis angles increased significantly (P < 0.001), whereas SNB, U1/L1 (P < 0.001), and L1/MP (P < 0.05) decreased.
CONCLUSIONMaxillary protraction has a significant effect on growing skeletal Class III malocclusions withthe chief mechanism of Ptm-A value just diagnosed as minor by Coben analysis. Coben analysis is visual and clear in identifying pathogenic mechanisms of Class III malocclusions.
