1.Healthy Adult Semen Quality Survey in the Liaoning Area
Journal of China Medical University 2017;46(4):349-352
Objective To survey the semen quality of healthy adult men in the Liaoning area. Methods We included 400 male volunteers of different ages who underwent a premarital examination and reproductive health checkup in 2015 for semen sample collection. The inclusion criteria were as follows:men who underwent unified semen analysis, those who answered the questionnaire for analysis of overall semen quality, and those who were aged 18-25,26-30,and 31-40 years. Results Among the 400 male volunteers, the consistent standard rate only reached 40.5% according to the World Health Organization-specified reference values for testicular volume, semen volume, semen concentration, total energy, forward movement, livability, normal appearance,pH,liquefaction time,DNA fragmentation index, and high DNA staining index. The differences between the three groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05).The results of the 18-to 25-year age group were better than those of the other groups. Conclusion Healthy adults' semen quality in the Liaoning area has declined in recent years;therefore, male reproductive health education should be seriously considered.

Objective To establish a quantitative analysis of multi-components by single-marker (QAMS) for determination of four components (adenosine, uridine, guanosine, (R, S)-goitrin) in Isatidis Radix granules.Method The QAMS for Isatidis Radix granules was established and validated and adenosine was selected as the internal reference substance. The relative correction factor (RCF) of other three components were calculated. The contents of four components were determined by both external standard method and QAMS.The QAMS method was validated through comparison of the results obtained by the two different methods. Results The RCFs of uridine, guanosine and (R, S)-goitrin all showed good reproducibility within certain ranges. For Isatidis Radix granules, uridine, guanosine and (R, S)-goitrin, there was no significant difference between the quantitative results of the two methods. Conclusions The QAMS method is simple, feasible and credible to be used for comprehensive quality control of Isatidis Radix granules.

Objective: To determine the glycemic index of common cereals and tubers products in China, and to examine the relationship among the response of blood glucose and the type of carbohydrate, food processing, and food digestion and absorption. Methods: 8-12 subjects in each group were assigned randomly. Fasting blood sugar was measured first and then 50 g glucose or the test meal was taken, and blood glucose was measured again 2 hours later. The food used in the test meal contained the carbohydrate content, equivalent to 50 g glucose according to the Table of Food Composition (1991). 50 g glucose was used as the control food. GI of test meal was calculated by Wolver method. Results:The study showed the glycemic index of common foods, including 9 sugars, 62 cereals and tubers products. Conclusion: The different foods with same amount of carbohydrate have different GI. The characteristics of starch and food processing are more important in predicting GI value, and GI varies also with the rate of starch digestion and hydrolysis in man.

Objective: To explore the association between the cognition of Nutrition Facts Panel and prepackaged food purchase behavior among residents in six provinces in China. Methods: Using a multi-stage sampling method, 3 002 adults aged 18-70 were selected from the western region (Sichuan), eastern region (Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing), central region (Henan), and northeastern region (Heilongjiang) of China from July 2020 to March 2021. Socio-demographic characteristics of participants and their cognition of Nutrition Facts Panel and prepackaged food purchase behavior were collected through questionnaire. A multivariate binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between cognition of Nutrition Facts Panel and prepackaged food purchase behavior. Results: The age of 3 002 subjects was (42.3±13.4) years, among which 63.8% (1 914) were female, 66.7% knew the Nutrition Facts Panel, 49.8% would read it when purchasing, 30.7% could understand it, and 56.6% (1 699) bought prepackaged food more than once a week. The results of multivariate analysis showed that after adjusting for relevant confounding factors, compared with the participants knowing but not reading the Nutrition Facts Panel, the group knowing and reading was more likely to buy 11 types of prepackaged food at least once a week (all P<0.05). Compared with the participants reading but not understanding the Nutrition Facts Panel, the group reading and understanding was less likely to buy 11 types of prepackaged food at least once a week (all P<0.05). Conclusion: There was a correlation between cognition of Nutrition Facts Panel and prepackaged food purchase behavior among residents.
