The projection area of the volar surface of the human hand was estimated on 52 young Chinese adults(26 males and 26 females.)ranging in age from 18 to 31. The average projection area of the volar surface of the hand was 145.20 square centimetres. It occupied 0.93% of the calculated body surface. The area of the palm was 86.69 square centimetres, amounting to 59.70% of the volar surface of the whole hand. All dimensions of different parts of the hand of males were larger than those of females. There was no difference between the right and left hands of both sexes. The coefficient of correlation among the body length, body weight, length and width of the hand, surface area of the whole body with the projection area of the volar surface of the hand was calculated. All showed close correlation. The regression of the estimation of the projection area of the volar surface of the hand with hand length and hand width was established. It is therefore to be assumed that the area of the volar surface of the hand calculated as one per cent of the body area, as it is often used in surgical examina- tions, seems to be a little higher than its real area(0.93%.

Objective To identify the types of γ?aminobutyric acid type A ( GABAA ) receptors in neurons in brain tissues at the target of anesthetic action of isoflurane in mice. Methods Two mouse strains were developed that were either sensitive or resistant to isoflurane. One hundred isoflurane?sensitive ICR∕CD?1 mice ( 50 males, 50 females) and 100 isoflurane?resistant ICR∕CD?1 mice ( 50 males, 50 fe?males) , aged 65-70 days, were used in this study. Brain tissues were obtained, and total RNA was ex?tracted and then reverse transcribed to cDNA using AMV reverse transcriptase. Polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the cDNA sequences. Chi?square analysis was used to compare the cDNA sequence of each GABAA receptor subunit between two strains. Results The cDNA sequence of GABAA receptor sub?units α1?6 , β2,3 andγ1?3 in isoflurane?sensitive strain was completely consistent with that in isoflurane?resist?ant strain. A single nucleotide polymorphism at the nucleotide position 462 ( C∕G) in the β1 sequence was found. The allele C frequencies were 11.0% and 87.0% in isoflurane?sensitive strain and isoflurane?resistant strain, respectively. Compared with isoflurane?sensitive strain, the allele C frequency in cDNA sequences of β1 subunit was significantly increased in isoflurane?resistant strain ( P<0.01) . Conclusion β1 subunit?containing GABAA receptor in neurons in brain tissues is the target of anesthetic action of isoflurane in mice.

Objective:To study the association between set shifting in ADHD and NRXN1 gene. Methods:According to the diagnostic standard of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,Fourth Edition (DSM-Ⅳ).Totally 756 Han Chinese ADHD children and 133 Han Chinese unaffected children were involved in the analysis.Set shifting, including number connection time (NOTIM),number connection error times (NOERR),number and letter alternant connection time (LETIM),number and letter altemant error times (LEERR),and shifting time(each value was the difference between LETIM and NOTIM),was recorded by trail making test (TMT).Two SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) of NRXN1 gene,rs1592728 and rs4971652,were chose to detect genotype using Sequenom Mass ARRAY system by real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.Linear regression analysis was applied to explore the influence of set shifting, then, stratified analysis was used to study the association between set shifting and rs1592728 as well as rs4971652 in ADHD cases and controls separately. Results:Linear regression analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between set shifting and month (β =0.42,P <0.001),IQ (β =0.34,P < 0.001),group (β =0.08,P =0.004),GG genotype of rs4971652 (β =0.06,P =0.039).Among ADHD children, there was a negative relationship between set shifting and month (β =0.46,P <0.001),IQ (β =0.32,P < 0.001),GG genotype of rs4971652 (β =0.07,P =0.018),a positive association was found between set shifting and ADHDSUB (β =0.06,P =0.033),set shifting damaged higher with ADHD-Ⅰ children than ADHD-C children. While,in controls, set shifting was in inverse relation with month (β =0.25,P =0.002) and IQ (β =0.40,P < 0.001).Conclusion:It suggests that the association between shift in ADHD children and polymorphism of NRXN1 gene is existed, set shifting deficit less seriously in GG genotype.

Objective To investigate the status and analyze the influencing factors of structural empowerment and psychological empowerment of midwives in Suzhou. Methods Using convenience sampling, totally 309 midwives from fifteen hospitals in Suzhou were investigated with the Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire-Ⅱ (CWEQ-Ⅱ) and Psychological Empowerment Scale (PES).Results The scores of structural and psychological empowerment of midwives were (18.07±3.12) and (14.82±2.01).There was a significantly positive correlation between midwives' structural and psychological empowerment (r=0.396,P<0.01).Hospital level and whether participate in midwifery standardization training had an impact on structural empowerment score(P<0.05).Age,parental status, job title, salary, delivery room working hours, number of night shifts per month, and whether or not participate in teaching had an impact on psychological empowerment score(P<0.05).Conclusion Midwives' structural and psychological empowerments are at a moderate level.Administrators should take targeted intervention to create an empowerment-allowing working environment for midwives, stabilize midwives work force, strengthen midwifery discipline construction and make full specialized features of midwives.

Objective:To describe and analyze suicide risk of patients with schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder. Methods:A total of 2 016 patients with schizophrenia,903 patients with major de-pressive disorder, and 381 patients with bipolar disorder from inpatients, clinics,or communities who met the diag-nostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,Fifth Edition were recruited. All patients were interviewed by psychiatrists using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview to diagnose mental disor-ders and assess suicide risk,as well as Clinical-Rated Dimensions of Psychosis Symptom Severity(CRDPSS)to as-sess symptoms.Differences and risk factors of suicide risk among three types of mental disorders were explored u-sing multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results:In the past one month,37 patients with schizophrenia(1.8%),516 patients with major depressive disorder(57.1%),and 102 patients with bipolar disorder(26.8%)had suicide risk.Compared with patients with schizophrenia, suicide risk in patients with major depressive disorder(OR=36.50)and bipolar disorder(OR=20.10)increased.Female(OR=1.87),smoking(OR=1.76),family history of suicide(OR=5.09),higher score of CRDPSS hallucination(OR=1.80),and higher score of CRDPSS depression(OR=1.54)were risk factors of suicide risk of patients. Conclusions:Suicide risk of patients with ma-jor depressive disorder and bipolar disorder is higher than that of patients with schizophrenia. In clinical practice,it is important to regularly assess suicide risk of patients.Patients who experience symptoms of hallucination and de-pression should be paid more attention to.
