Peripheral blood cells of ten cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) were detected by zymochemical method (myeloperoxidase MPO, platelet peroxidase PPO) and cytochemical method with CD serial monoclonal antibody (CD5, CD7, CD9, CD16, CD13, CD19, CD20, CD33, CD41, CD42) labelled by immunogold. The concrete procedure of serial electron microscopy for ALL diagnosis is also described.

Using scanning electromicroscope, seven species of anopheline mosquito eggs were studied. Among them, the microstructure of exochorion of Anopheles liangshanensis. An. kweiyangensis An. kunmingensis, An. hyrcanus and An. messeae were not reported before. The results showed that ultrastructure of plastron network, frill and tubercles of deck were useful in distinguishing sibling species of anopheline eggs. Microstructure of float had little difference between species. The micropylar area and lobed tubercles presented obvious intraspecific variations, so, it should be careful for using in classification.

[ABSTRACT] Objective: To investigate the effect of botulinum toxin-A (BTA) on lower esophageal sphinctor (LES) in dogs, providing scientific base for treating achalasia with BTA. Methods:BTA was endoscopically injected into the LES in 10 dogs, and saline injection was taken as control group(10 dogs). LES pressure was measured before and after injection. Contents of Ach and activity of AchE were determined in LES samples. By means of Karnovsky-Roots technique, ultrastructure of nerve terminal and vesicles containing Ach were studied under light and transmission electronic microscopy. Results:LES pressure obviously decreased in BTA-treated dogs after injection (P

AIM: We examined the effect of interleukin- 2 (IL-2) on calcium handlin g of rat cardiomyocytes. METHODS: The effects of steady state an d transient chan ges in stimulus frequency on the intracellular calcium transient were investigat ed in the isolated ventricular myocytes with spectrofluorometry technique. RESULTS: Under the steady state (0.2 Hz), IL-2 at 2?10 5 U/L decr eased the peak [Ca 2+ ] i and amplitude of the [Ca 2+ ] i transient, increas ed the diastolic calcium level, and prolonged the decay of the calcium transient . At 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ], when increasing the stimulus frequency from 0.2 to 1.0 Hz, diastolic calcium level and peak [Ca 2+ ] i as well as the amplitude of the transient were inc reased. The positive frequency relationship was blunted in the IL-2-treated myoc ytes and this was not normalized by increasing extracellular [Ca 2+ ] t o 2.5 mmol/L . The caffeine induced Ca 2+ release was increased with increase in stimu lus freq uency. IL-2 inhibited the frequency relationship of caffeine induced Ca 2+ releas e. The restitution was not different between control and IL-2 groups at the 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ], which was slowed in IL-2-treated myo cytes when t he extracellular [Ca 2+ ] was increased to 2.5 mmol/L. CONCLUSIO NS: It is concluded that the blunted frequency response of IL-2-treated myocytes was resulted from the decrease in SR Ca 2+ release, which was related to depression of SR funct ion. Despite the evidence of depressed SR Ca 2+ uptake, the restitution o f ca lcium transient at 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ] remains uncha nged, which maybe due to the increase in the Na +/Ca 2+ exchanger activi ty.

Objective To evaluate the results of NiTi shape memory alloy four-corner arthrodesis concentrator (NTMA-FCAC) for carpal collapse. Methods We reviewed retrospectively 13 patients who underwent scaphoid excision with four-corner arthrodesis using NTMA-FCAC for carpal collapse from August 2006 to June 2009. There were eight males and five females, with an average age of 38 years (range, 23-61years). The cause of carpal collapse was SNAC in 7 cases, perilunate dislocations in five and SLAC in one.The injury mechanisms included traffic accidents (5 cases), falling from a height (4 cases), crashes (3 cases)and sprain (1 case). Objective measurements included grip strength and range of the wrist. Radiographs were performed in all patients. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess wrist pain. The results were evaluated according to the Krimmer wrist scores. Results The mean follow-up time was 26.5 months (range,6-36 months). Clinical evaluation yielded the mean grip strength of (32.49±6.21) kg (80.8% of opposite side). The mean range of the wrist reached over 53% of the healthy side. Non-union and wound infection were not seen. The mean VAS scores had improved from 4.46±1.27 preoperatively to 1.31 ±0.95 postoperatively. The mean pain scores under stress had improved from 7.00±1.41 preoperatively to 2.62±1.26 postoperatively. There were remarkable differences between them. The mean Krimmer wrist score was 79. Conclusion Four-corner arthrodesis using NTMA-FCAC is an effective method for carpal collapse, preserving a majority of wrist function.

Objective To discuss experiences in reconstruction of severe tibial shaft fractures by using different flaps and external fixations. Methods The study involved 190 patients with type GustiloⅢB Ⅲ C (160 patients) and GustiloⅢC (30 patients) tibial shaft fractures treated from 1990 to 2007.There were 169 males and 21 females,at average age of 42.5 years. The injury causes included traffic accidents in 132 patients, machine accidents in 32 and stone smashing in 26.The management procedure consisted of administration of antibiotics, serial debridement and different flap grafting (including free thoracoumbilical flaps in 20 patients, sural neurocutaneous vascular flaps in 108,saphenous neurocutane ous vascular flaps in 12,superficial peroneal neurocutaneous flap in two, fasciocutaneous flaps in 26 and gastrocnemius muscular flaps in 22) and different external fixators (half-ring fixators in 84 patients, unilateral axial dynamic fixators in 12,AO fixators in 10,Weifang fixators in 42 and hybrid fixators in 40).The average follow-up was 7.3 years. Results All flaps survived.Of all,186 patients obtained fracture healing, with mean fracture healing time varying in different patients treated with different external fixators:7.5 months for 84 patients treated with half-ring fixators,11.2 months for eight with unilateral axial dynamic fixators,8.5 months for 12 with AO fixators ,8.1 months for 42 with Weifang fixators and 7.8 months for 40 with assembly fixators.Except for half-ring fixation, the other fixators needed necessary bone graft.Four patients treated with unilateral axial dynamic fixators resulted in nonunion due to osteo myelitis. The latest follow up showed that the function of the ankle and knee was normal, with no pain. Conclusion Combination of half-ring external fixators with various flaps provides good method for treatment of Gustilo ⅢB and ⅢC tibial shaft fractures.

Objective To observe the clinical outcomes of the superior gluteal neurocutaneous flap for sacrococcygeal pressure sores. Methods Twelve cases with sacrococcygeal pressure sores were covered by the superior gluteal neurocutaneous flap from May 2005 to Nov. 2009. The sore size ranged from 15 cm ×30 cm to 5 cm × 8 cm, while the flap size ranged from 17 cm × 32 cm to 10 cm× 12 cm. Results All 12 flaps survived totally with the pressure sores healed. The longest follow-up time was four years, the short follow-up time was half a year, the average time was 2.5 years. The superior gluteal neurocutaneous flap was good blood circulation, pressure sores not recur. Conclusion The superior gluteal neurocutaneous flap is a good treatment for sacrococcygeal pressure sores for its reliable blood supply and simple harvesting.
