BACKGROUND: A total of 300 SD rats were used for blood sampling. In abdominal aorta approach, the best puncture point was the abdominal aortic bifurcation 1-3 mm towards the heart, with a success rate of 93.6%. In posterior orbital venous plexus approach, the needle was vertically inserted into the inner canthus and rotated toward the eyeground to open venous plexus (success rate 89.9%). In cardiac puncture approach, below the xiphoid process, the needle punctured into the skin with 25°-30° oblique upward, through the diaphragm until 2.5-3.0 cm deep (success rate 83.4%). In tail end approach, surgical scissors cut off 5-10 mm tail top (success rate 94.4%). In jugular vein approach, the needle was horizontally inserted along the fourth rib into the skin until the jugular vein, about 5 mm deep, at 30°-40° with the chest surface (success rate 80.9%). A large blood volume could be obtained by abdominal aorta approach, which leads to less haemolysis and no hurt to organs, no gas embolism or haemostasis caused by inappropriate operation. But each approach has advantages and drawbacks, the selective principle should be based on experimental require.

Objective To test red cells of bone marrow and hematopoietic cells of rats with liver depression and spleen deficiency syndrome in different time period; To discuss the change rules in the blood system. Methods Rat models with liver depression and spleen deficiency syndrome were made by composite method of anger by restraint stress, clipping tails, over fatigue, and abnormal diet. The hemogram, red cells of bone marrow, marrow nucleated red blood cells, stem cell factor, and erythropoietin of male rats in normal group and model group were detected at 2nd, 6th and 9th weeks. Results Compared with normal group, hematokrit and metarubricyte in model group of 2 weeks was higher in the model group (P<0.05);erythropoietin in model group of 6 weeks decreased (P<0.01);red cell counts, red protein level, hemoglobin, hematokrit, and erythropoietin in model group of 9 weeks were lower (P<0.05);red cell counts, hemoglobin, hematokrit, prorubricyte, metarubricyte, and erythropoietin in model group of 6 and 9 weeks were significantly lower than those in model group of 2 weeks (P<0.05, P<0.01). The number of marrow nucleated red blood cells in model group of 2 weeks decreased (P<0.05). Stem cell factor showed no significant difference. Conclusion The rats with liver depression and spleen deficiency syndrome can increase the number of red blood cells in a short time when they suffer from stress stimulation, so that they can fight the damage factors. But long-term stress stimulation will lead the rats to anemia, which may be associated with the reduction of erythropoietin.

8. Role of vascular and genetic factors in Alzheimer disease
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2016;37(10):1261-1269
Alzheimer disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system, with complicated etiologies. Recent studies have found that vascular disease has a great impact on AD, and abnormal vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression is thought to play an important role in the course of AD. MicroRNAs expression has greatly changed in the brain of AD patients. This paper reviewed the latest advance in the effects of vascular and genetic factors on the occurrence and progression of AD, with discussion also on the probable pathogenesis, therapeutic targets and strategies of AD.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of sustained-release alpha-lipoic acid tablets (SRLA) on blood lipid, glucose and insulin levels in hyperlipidemic New Zealand rabbits.
METHODSTwenty-four New Zealand rabbits were randomized into normal diet group, high-fat diet group, and high-fat diet + SRLA (300 mg/tablet) group with corresponding feed. At the beginning and 4 weeks after the feeding, the serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), blood glucose, and serum insulin were measured, and insulin sensitivity index (ISI) was calculated.
RESULTSFour weeks after feeding with high-fat diet, the insulin levels was elevated and the ISI lowered in the New Zealand rabbits, indicating successful establishment of the animal model of hyperlipidemia. Compared with the high-fat diet group, the serum levels of TG, TC, LDL-C and insulin were significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the ISI was significantly increased (P<0.05) in high fat diet + SRLA group. But no statistically significant difference was found in the blood glucose among the 3 groups.
CONCLUSIONSRLA can significantly correct blood lipid and insulin disorders in hyperlipidemic New Zealand rabbits and prevent the occurrence of insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2003;19(4):359-362
AIMTo observe the effects of different periods of exercise on the iron status.
METHODSFemale rats were randomly divided into 3-, 6-, 12-month swimming exercise groups and their corresponding sedentary groups. The hematological indices of iron status and the non-heme iron (NHI) and total NHI (TNHI) of the organs were determined at the end of the desired period.
RESULTSAs compared with the corresponding sedentary groups, plasma iron and transferrin-iron saturation of three exercise groups were decreased without significant changes of blood hemoglobin and hematocrit. The NHI contents and TNHI of the liver, spleen and kidney were decreased. Although the NHI contents of the heart decreased, TNHI was not significantly changed. TNHI of the organs in both the exercised and sedentary rats were found to increase with age.
CONCLUSIONThe exercise-induced low iron status with depleted iron storage is similar to the iron-deficiency status, but it could not be explained using the hypothesis of iron deficiency. Both the NHI redistribution and the maintained iron storage suggests the adaptation of low iron status to exercise. Therefore, the so-called exercise-induced iron deficiency could not exist.
