Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2014;33(6):616-618
Objective To investigate the effectiveness of population rehabilitation in community and home-based aerobic exercise in reducing cancer-related fatigue and promoting the quality of life in postoperative elderly patients with esophageal cancer. Methods The 68 post-operative patients with esophageal cancer receiving the first chemotherapy in our hospital were assigned to two group (n=34,each):study group received an intervention of population rehabilitation of community, and control group received only home based aerobic exercise. The effect of intervention was evaluated by the Piper fatigue scale(PIPER) and he World Health Organization quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) in the beginning of the next chemotherapy cycle. Results After 4 weeks intervention, the scores of PIPER and WHOQOL BREF were significantly lower in study group than in control group[(4.2±1.6) vs.(5.4±0.7),(45.3±10.0) vs.(49.9±10.7),t=-2.334,5.334,P=0.031,0.042)].The cancer related mild degree fatigue accounted for 23.5% (8 cases) in study group which was significantly higher than in control group1case(2.9 %,1 case) (x2 =11.865,P<0.01).Conclusions The population rehabilitation in community is a safe and feasible intervention. It is superior to homebased aerobic exercise for alleviating the severity and extent of cancer-related fatigue in elderly patients.

Objective To explore the feasibility of Lugol's iodine staining in association with P53 oncoprotein test to detect early esophageal cancer and precancerous lesions through endoscopy. Methods Lugol's iodine was sprayed on esophageal mucosa under endoscopy in 78 patients with suspected early malignancy. Severe dysplasia which taken from unstained position by iodine were prepared immunohistochemically for P53 oncoprotein study. Then endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) was performed to these severe dysplasia with P53 oncoprotein- positive mucosa. Results There were 31 unstained areas (25 patients) including squamous cell carcinomas (n=3) and severe dysplasias (n=16). Expression of P53 was found in 7 severe dysplasia (43.8% ),and 1 carcinoma in situ was found by EMR. Conclusion This modified method seemed feasible not only to detect early esophageal cancer, but also to resect severe dysplasia mucosa selectively by EMR.

The study on the buds of Jasminum officinale L. var. grandiflorum was carried out to look for anti-HBV constituents. The isolation and purification were performed by HPLC and chromatography on silica gel, polyamide and Sephadex LH-20 column. The structures were elucidated on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral analysis. Six iridoid glycosides were identified as jasgranoside B (1), 6-O-methy-catalpol (2), deacetyl asperulosidic acid (3), aucubin (4), 8-dehydroxy shanzhiside (5), and loganin (6). Jasgranoside B (1) is a new compound. Compounds 2-6 were isolated from Jasminum officinale L. var. grandiflorum for the first time.

Objective To acknowledge the quality of life (QOL) in patients after lung transplantation and to explore related factors. Methods A cross- sectional study design and a convenience sampling were performed in this research. Totally 30 patients after lung transplantation were investigated. The questionnaires which used to explore the quality of life were Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaires (SF-36) and Revised Airways Questionnaires 20 (AQ20-R). Related state were surveyed by questionnaires consisted of demographic questionnaires, Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Medical Coping Mode Questionnaires (MCMQ). Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 20.0 software. Correlation analysis and multivariate analysis were performed using Pearson linear correlation analysis and multi-linear regression. Results The scores among the 8 dimensions of SF-36 were(34.48±16.73)-( 71.63±22.83), lower than those of norms(Z=-9.684--2.817, P<0.05 or 0.01). Somatic pain scored the highest (71.63±22.83), while physiological function scored the lowest (34.48±16.73). The mean score of AQ20-R was 7.93±5.21. The major two problems that manifested QOL were: uncomfortable feeling of lung caused by strong scent, smog or perfume, exhausted feeling after having a cold. The mean scores of SAS and SDS were 44.33±9.33,48.05±9.80, higher than those of norms, which were 33.80 ± 5.90, 41.88 ± 10.57 (t=6.1833, 3.4458, P < 0.01). The scores among the 3 dimensions of MCMQ were 8.93 ± 2.08, 16.10 ± 2.28, 3.63 ± 1.33 and the differences were significant in 3 dimensions compared with those norms, which were 19.48±3.81, 14.44±2.97, 8.81±3.17(t=-27.7281, 3.9885,-21.3878, P<0.01). Conclusions In SF-36, role-physical of patients after lung transplantation was the worst dimension, while bodily pain was the best dimension of QOL. The QOL of patients after lung transplantation were almost worse than normal people. The related factors of QOL in patients after lung transplantation maybe:anxiety, depression and medical coping style.

Objective To investigate the status of life quality in the elderly in Shanxi Province Changzhi City, and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods The quality of life, activities of daily living and status of community services were measured simultaneously by 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Activities of Daily Living Scale, Community Healthy Needs Scale and survey results were used and analyzed using t-test, correlation and stepwise regression analysis. Results According to the criterion of life quality in the elderly which were proposed by Zhang Lei, the quality of life in the elderly scored 72. 1-117.0, reached 98.5%. The quality of life in the elderly was impacted by the ability of caring oneself, marital status, degree of culture, economic situation and so on. The demand rate for health guidance and periodic physical examination was higher. Conclusions The quality of life in the elderly is at a medium level. There is a wide gap between the demand of community healthy services and the utilization of community healthy services.

Objective To investigate the quality of life of elderly caregivers and its factors. Methods Elderly caregivers living in Changzhi City were enrolled in this study. 36-item short-form (SF-36) health survey and Activity of Daily Living Scale ( ADL) were used as study tools. The data was analyzed by statistical description,t test or multiple regression. Results Those with score of quality of life reaching 72. 1 to 117. 0 accounted for 98. 8%. The total score and score of eight dimensions of SF-36 showed statistically significant difference between different daily living activity groups ( P < 0.05) . The state of health and self-care ability of the elderly imposed a major impact on eight dimensions of SF-36. Age, sex, level of education, marital status and wage had different impact on each dimension of SF-36. Conclusion The quality of life of elderly caregivers is at a medium level. The main factors of quality of live of elderly caregiver are their state of health and self-care ability of the elderly.
