[Objective]To evaluate the two-dimensional shear wave elastography(2D SWE)in predicting the prognosis of the patients with acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure(ACLF-HBV).[Methods]312 patients diagnosed with ACLF-HBV at the De-partment of Infectious Diseases in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from October 1st 2013 to December 31th 2015 were recruited. The baseline data of all patients, including 2D SWE,laboratory data, ultrasonographic data,Model for End-stage Liver Disease score(MELD),Child-Turcotte-Pugh score(CTP),and King′s College Hospital score(KCH),were collected when enrolled. All patients were followed up for at least 90 days and their clinical outcomes(recovering or worsening)were recorded. 2D SWE values of all patients were dynamically collected every 2~4 weeks during the follow-up until death, liver transplantation, or discharging from hospital.[Results]The worsening patients showed higher 2D SWE values than the recovering ones[(44.0 ± 7.5) kPa vs(36.8 ± 10.3)kPa,t=-6.5,P=0.000],2D SWE value less than 39.2 kPa could be a prediction of the patient′s recovery in 90 days. The predictive value of 2D SWE(AUROC=0.73)was higher than that of KCH(AUROC:0.65,z=2.1,P=0.033). Among all the dynamically measured patients,2D SWE rose from(42.1 ± 8.0)kPa to(47.5 ± 9.3)kPa in the worsening group during the 90-day follow-up,while nearly stable in the recovery group.[Conclusion]Noninvasive liver stiffness measurement by 2D SWE is a use-ful method in evaluating the prognosis of ACLF-HBV patients. Taking a cutoff of 39.2 kPa,patients with higher 2D SWE values could have worse clinical outcomes ,otherwise better. It seems that dynamically measuring 2D SWE values could also be helpful ,but more research in the future should be needed.

Objective To evaluate the relevance of MSCT pulmonary function parameters and pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters, and to define the reference value of MSCT pulmonary function parameters. Methods Thirty male volunteers received clinical PFT and MSCT scan. MSCT scan was perfomed at the end of the maximum inspiratory and maximum expiratory. All data were analyzed with the lung analysis software of computer-aided inspection system correlatedly with pulmonary function parameters. Results The lung volume at full inspiratory volume (Vin) and full expiratory volume (Vex) in MSCT scan had good correlation with total lung capacity (TLC) and residual volume (RV) (r=0.90, P<0.01; r=0.74, P<0.01). Vex/Vin was correlated with RV/TLC (r=0.74, P<0.01), and Vin-Vex was correlated with MVC (r=0.85, P<0.01). In inspiration, the average lung density was (-879.51±32.82) HU, the density per unit volume was (0.12±0.03) g/cm3, while in expiratory they were (-688.14±62.38) HU and (0.31±0.06) g/cm3. Conclusion MSCT pulmonary function tests with the analysis software of computer-aided inspection system have good correlation with PFT.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the injectability, histocompatibility, function and other properties of the injectable bioactive bone repairing material of nano-hydroxyapatite and polyamide-66 (n-HA/PA66) composite. The XRD pattern, the relationship between the injectability and liquid-powder ratio, setting time and liquid-powder ratio, compressive strength and liquid-powder ratio were assessed. The size of the composite was determined to be 70 nm in length and 30 to 50 nm in width, and the molecular weight of polyamides-66 was 18000. The diameter of pores of the composite was about 200 to 400 micrometer. To evaluate the histocompatibility and function, 8 male dogs were studied with the injectable n-HA/PA66 composite implanted in the artificial defected alveolus of mandible on only one side to be compared with the intact alveolus on the other side. The specimens were taken at 4, 8, 12, 16 months after the implantation and the results were evaluated. The XRD pattern of the solidificated n-HA/PA66 composite was the same as the powdered n-HA/PA66 composite. The injectable n-HA/PA66 composite had a good injectability, 25 to 30 minutes setting time and about 37 MPa compressive strength when the liquid-powder ratio was 0.50. The healing of the gingiva was well at the implanted areas in all animals. The height of the repaired alveolar bone was obvious higher than that of the blank control. The earlier sign of ossification was histologically observed at 16 weeks after implantation. The injectable n-HA/PA66 composite has good biocompatibility and osteoconductive property. As an injectable material, with good maneuverability, it is useful for repairing irregular bone defects, especially in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Objective: To explore a single center large cohort of patients with Takayasu’s arteritis for their clinical manifestation and long-term outcome in China. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 566 patients with Takayasu’s arteritis admitted in our hospital from 2002-01 to 2013-11 for their clinical characteristics, laboratory ifndings, angiographic features, treatment and long-term outcomes. Results: The patient’s ratio for female to male gender was 1 to 3.8 and the average onset age was (28.9 ± 12.0) years. The most common non-speciifc symptom, initial symptom and complication were fever (52/566 patients, 9.2%), dizziness (214 patients, 37.8%) and hypertension (392 patients, 69.3%) respectively. The patients with pulmonary artery and coronary artery involvement were 83 (14.7%) and 66 (11.7%) respectively, and 131 (23.1%) patients had faster erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The major vascular damage was steno-occlusive lesion and the most common involvement was left sub-clavian artery, which was observed in 278 (49.1%) patients. The treatments were mainly included in medication, interventional therapy, autologous blood vessel transplantation, artiifcial blood vessel transplantation and aortic valve replacement. There were 32 patients died during the mean follow-up period of (5.0 ± 0.2) years. Hypertension, complication and the progressive stage of disease were the major factors affecting prognosis in relevant patients (regression coefifcients: 4.664, 1.959 and 1.870 respectively, allP<0.05). Conclusion: Hypertension was the leading reason for patients’ hospital visit. Takayasu’s arteritis was closely related to cardiovascular disease, the early diagnosis and treatment were really important in clinical practice.

Objective: To explore the clinical features and prognosis in patients with Takayasu arteritis (TA) combining neurological symptoms. Methods: We retrospectively studied 274 TA patients combining neurological symptoms who admitted to our hospital from 2002-01 to 2013-10 for their clinical and imaging features with prognosis. Results: The ratio of male to female was 1:4.3 and the mean age of disease onset was at (28.2±11.2) years. The most common neurological symptom was dizziness (214/274 cases, 78.1%), most frequent type was type III TA (112 cases, 40.9%), most common affected artery was left subclavian artery (147 cases, 53.6%), and there were 77 cases (28.1%) with (3-4) branches of the aortic arch involvement. For stroke conditions, ischemic stroke was more frequently observed in patients with steno-occlusive lesions in subclavian artery and common carotid artery, while hemorrhagic stroke was more frequently found in patients with steno-occlusive lesions in descending aorta, abdominal aorta and/or renal artery. Heart failure was the most common cause of death, it was also the most common cardiovascular event in surviving cohorts. Conclusion: TA patients could have many neurological symptoms, which were related to the number and site of artery involvement.

Chinese Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2020;43(5):540-546
Bronchial asthma is characterized by airway inflammation, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and recurrent episodes of reversible airway obstruction. Due to different pathophysiological mechanisms, the disease is very heterogeneous in clinical manifestation, course of disease, response to treatment, phenotype etc. There is a strong need for biomarkers to assess the characteration and severity of the disease. Recently, lymphocyte and blood cells, antibodies, cytokines, chemokines, noncoding RNA and other protein markers have been studied as blood biomarkers of asthma. The present article summarized these biomarkers in diagnosis, phenotyping and treatment efficacy.
