Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2008;6(4):227-229
Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of moxibustion plus Mecobalamin in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods: Eighty subjects were equally allocated into combination and control groups. On the basis of the same basic treatment, the combination group was treated by moxibustion plus Mecobalamin and the control group simply by Mecobalamin. Treatment lasted 3 months. Nerve conduction velocity and symptom severity were compared between pre-treatment and post-treatment. Results: Nerve conduction velocity was improved in both combination and control groups and more obviously in the combination group. The marked effective rate, effective rate and ineffective rate were respectively 52.5%, 32.5% and 15.0% in the combination group and 35.0%, 27.5% and 37.5% in the control group. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on a basic treatment, moxibustion plus Mecobalamin is superior to simple Mecobalamin in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
2.Clinical Observation of Early Acupuncture in Treating Acute Cerebral Infarction
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2006;4(3):148-149
Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treating cerebral infarction by its intervention in the acute stage. Methods: A treatment group of 49 cases was treated with acupuncture by its intervention in the acute stage plus rehabilitation in the convalescent stage, and a control group of 28 cases, with acupuncture applied only to the convalescent stage. Results: The total effective rate was 95.9% in the treatment group and 78.6% in the control group. The curative effect was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion:The treatment of cerebral infarction by early acupuncture intervention is safe, reliable and exactly effective. It is worthy to be popularized and applied.
3.Treatment of 157 Cases of Cervical Spondylosis of Vertebral Artery Type by Tuina Therapy
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2009;7(2):113-115
Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of tuina therapy in the treatment of cervical spondyIosis of vertebral artery type. Methods:One hundred and fifty-seven cases of cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type were treated by tuina therapy, three times a week.Ten treatments made up one course and one to two courses of treatment Was performed.During tuina treatment, other modalities that may affect tuina effects were discontinued. The patients were surveyed three months after tuina treatment. Results:Among the 157 cases,109 cases obtained marked effectiveness,26 cases improvement and 6 cases inefiectiveness;16 cases were not surveyed. The total effective rate was 86.6%.Conclusion:Tuina therapy has excellent effects on cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type.
4.Clinical Observation of Combined Acupuncture and Herbs in Treating Low Back Pain due to Climacteric Osteoporosis in 40 Cases
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2004;2(4):39-40
Forty cases of low back pain due to climacteric osteoporosis were treated by needling Fengchi (GB 20), Dazhui (GV 14), Geshu (BL 17), Tianzong (SI 11) and Ashi points, as well as oral Chinese herbs. Results showed cure in 25 cases, improvement in 9 cases and failure in 6 cases, with the total effective rate of 85.0%.
5.Simple Needle-embedding Therapy for Hiccup
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2004;2(1):47-48
Twenty-four cases of hiccup were treated by needle-embedding therapy at Geshu (BL 17), Ear Centre (MA-H 1) and Stomach (MA-IC). Results showed that hiccup disappeared in 21 cases, relieved in 1 case and changed little in 2 cases; that in some cases hiccup disappeared instantly after embedding needle. It is indicated that needle-embedding therapy is a quick and easy way to treat hiccup, with lasting effects.
6.Treatment of Depression by Acupuncture in 36 Cases
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2003;1(4):22-23
Thirty-six cases of depression were mainlytreated by needling Shenmen ( HT 7), Sanyinjiao ( SP 6) and Zusanli (ST 36). In the case of liver-qi atagnation, Taichong ( LR 3) and Hegu ( LI 4) were added; in the case of phlegm-dampness accumulation, Fenglong ( ST 40) and Yinlingquan ( SP 9 ) were added; in the case of deficiency of both heart and spleen, Xinshu (BL 15) and Pishu (BL 20) were added. Fifteen cases were cured, 7 cases markedly improved, 8 cases improved and 6 cases failed.
7.Clinical Study on Small Knife Needle in Treating Transverse Process Syndrome of Third Lumbar Vertebra
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2006;4(3):191-192
Small knife needle plus manual reduction method was used to treat the transverse process syndrome of the third lumbar vertebra. The small knife needle was adopted to loosen the third vertebra with little invasion and manual reduction method to remove adhesion by pulling back and forth. Among 859 cases treated, 652 cases were cured and 196 cases improved, with the total effective rate of 98.8%. It is indicated that small knife needle plus manual reduction method has positive effects on the transverse process syndrome of the third lumbar vertebra as well as other soft tissues injury.
8.Clinical Study on Acupuncture in Treating Infantile Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2005;3(2):31-33
Purpose: To investigate the curative effect of acupuncture on infantile attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the changes in abnormal electroencephalogram and the relationships of the curative effect with the type of syndrome and age. Method: Five hundreds and ninty-two patients were divided into an acupuncture group and a Chinese medicine group. Results: The total effective rate was 84.4% in the acupuncture group and 78.8% in the Chinese medicine group, and the curative effect was better in the former than in the latter (P<0.05);the change rate in abnormal electroencephalogram was better in the acupuncture group than in the Chinese medicine group (P<0.05); there was a significant correlation between the curative effect and age (P<0.01), and the curative effect of acupuncture was better in the young. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment has a good effect on infantile attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, its total effective rate was higher and the changes in abnormal electroencephalogram was better than in the Chinese medicine group, and the curative effect was better in the liver-qi stagnation type and in the young.
9.Acupuncture Therapy for Multiple Infarctional Dementia
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2003;1(1):22-24
Purpose To observe the clinical efficacy of combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of multiple infarctional dementia. Methods Eighty-eight patients were randomized into two groups:treatment group in which 48 cases were treated by combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion and control group in which 40 cases were treated by oral administration of Huperzine A. Results The total effective rate was 90% in treatment group and 71% in control group, with a significant difference ( P < 0.05 ); the score of Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) increased more obviously in treatment group than in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion is effective in improving the clinical symptoms of multiple infarctional dementia.
