Objective To observe the improvement of Guangdong Liangcha Granules (GLG) on restraint-stress-induced peroxidation in genital organs of mice. Meth ods Mice models of peroxidation injury in genital organs were induced by 18-hou r restraint stress. Testicular and ovarian malondialdehyde (MDA) level was detec ted by thiobarbituric acid method, glutathione (GSH) content by HPLC,xanthine o xidase (XOD) and GSH-PX activities by colorimetric method, nitric oxide (NO) co ntent by Griess chemical method and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) by enzyme-linked fluorescent immunoassay. Results Compared with model group,GLG can markedly reduce MDA level,XOD acitivity and NO contents,in addition,GLG c an effectively increase the ORAC value,GSH content,GSH-PX activity in testis and ovaries. Conclusion Oral treatment of Guangdong Liangcha Granules was found to reduce the status of peroxidation in testis and ovaries, and the improvement may be related to the increase of its free radical scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation.

Objective To investigate the mechanisms of tigecycline nonsusceptibility in carbapen-ems-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii ( CRAB) strains in order to provide a theoretical basis for a reasonable use of antibiotics and the control of nosocomial infection .Methods Susceptibility testing of 120 non-dupli-cate CRAB strains to tigecycline was performed by using the broth microdilution method .Minimal inhibitory concentrations ( MIC) of tigecycline against the A.baumannii strains were determined by using the broth mi-crodilution method before and after exposing the strains to Carbonylcyanide-m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP), which was the efflux pump inhibitor .Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amply the ef-flux pumps genes including adeB, adeJ, adeG, abeM, adeE, adeRS, tetX and tetX1.The real-time PCR was performed to measure the expression of efflux pumps genes including adeB, adeJ, adeG, abeM and adeE.Results A total of 120 CRAB strains were collected including 13 (10.8%) tigecycline non-suscep-tible A.baumannii (TNAB) strains and 107 (89.2%) tigecycline susceptible A.baumannii (TSAB) strains. The MIC values of tigecline to the 120 CRAB strains were in a range of 0.25 μg/ml to 8 μg/ml. The adeR and adeJ genes were detected in 90.0%and 92.5%of the 120 CRAB strains, respectively. The positive rates of adeB, adeS, adeG and abeM genes among the 120 CRAB strains were all 94.2%.None of the three genes including adeE, tetX and tetX1 were detected .The mean expression levels of adeB and adeJ in TNAB strains were respectively increased by 18.69 folds and 5.46 folds as compared with those in sensi-tive strains. No significant increase in the expression of adeG and abeM genes was observed in TNAB strains . A 4-fold decrease in the MIC was observed in 8 out of 13 TNAB isolates treated with 10 μg/ml of CCCP .The CCCP could partially reverse the resistance pattern of tigecycline .Conclusion The efflux pump sys-tems of adeABC and adeIJK rather than the abeFGH and abeM systems might play an important role in reduc-ing the tigecycline susceptibility in carbapenems-resistant A.baumannii strains.

Objective To compare the changes in optic disc parameters after intraocular pressure (lOP) reduction between primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) eyes, and to determine if there is a difference of lamina eribrosa compliance between POAG and PACG. Design Prospective comparative study. Participants 36 PACG (49 eyes) and 35 POAG (49 eyes). Methods Patients underwent Heidelberg Retina Tomography (HRT Ⅱ) and Humphrey visual field test before IOP reduction. HRT and Humphrey visual field test were repeated one month after the IOP was reduced by laser, anti-glaucomatous medications or surgery treatment. Factors that affected the change in IOP were assessed including age, pretreatment IOP, IOP reduction, initial cup: disc ratio and diagnosis (POAG/PACG). Main outcome measures Changes of HRT parameters including cup area, mean cup depth, cup volume, and rim area after IOP reduction. Results The cup area, mean cup depth and cup volume decreased, and rim area in-creased significantly when the IOP was reduced (P<0.05), but there were no significant differences in the changes between PACG and POAG patients (P>0.05). Changes of these four HRT parameters were related to the amount of IOP reduction and the baseline ratio of cup to disc(P>0.05), but not related to age and pre-treatment IOP (P<0.05). Conclusions The cup became smaller and the rim area in-creased after IOP lowering with treatment in both POAG and PACG, and the magnitude of the change was similar in both groups. The lamina cribrosa compliance may not be different between POAG and PACG. (Ophthalmol CHN, 2009, 18: 264-269)

Objective: To investigate the impact for family history of hypertension on masked hypertension (MH) morbidity with relevant cardiac damage. Methods: Our research included in 3 groups: MH group, n=250 consecutive patients treated in our hospital from 2010-01 to 2015-04, Hypertension group, n=250 and Control group, n=250 subjects with normal blood pressure. The family history of hypertension, general clinical information, routine biochemical indexes and the findings of echocardiography were studied and compared among different groups. Results: ① There were 70 (28%) patients with family history of hypertension in MH group, 87 (34.8%) in Hypertension group and 26 (10.4%) in Control group. The ratio of family history of hypertension in MH group was higher than Control group, P<0.001, while it was similar between MH group and Hypertension group, P>0.05. Logistic regression analysis presented that family history of hypertension and body mass index were positively related to the morbidities of MH (r=1.468, r=0.173) and hypertension (r=1.195, r=0.086). ② Compared with Control group, MH group had increased left ventricular mass index (85.64 ± 17.7) g/m2 vs (80.50 ± 15.53) g/m2 and the maximum blood flow velocity of aortic valve (115.74 ± 16.54) cm/s vs (112.40±14.21) cm/s, all P<0.05. In MH group, compared with those without family history of hypertension, the patients with family history had the higher left ventricular mass index (89.22 ± 19.08) g/m2 vs (84.25 ± 16.99) g/m2 and the maximum blood flow velocity of aortic valve (119.19 ± 14.97) g/m2 vs (114.39 ± 16.96) g/m2, all P<0.05. Conclusion: The subjects with family history of hypertension had the higher risk of MH morbidity with more severe cardiac damage.

OBJECTIVETo provide ideal materials for repair of penile wounds in penis lengthening.
METHODSA skin incision was made between the penis and mons pubis. Penis lengthening was performed by complete releasing of the superficial suspensory ligament and partial releasing of the deep suspensory ligament of the penis. Resurfacing of the defects at the penile base was accomplished by transferring a scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flap pedicled on the anterior scrotal vessels.
RESULTS16 patients with short penis were treated with the method. All scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flaps survived and 4-4.5 cm extra length of the penile shaft was achieved. Appearance and function of the penis were improved.
CONCLUSIONSThe scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flap is one of the best materials to repair the penile skin defects in penile lengthening operation. The advantages of the flap are: 1. good blood supply; 2. thin and lacking of subcutaneous fat; 3. extensibility with the scrotal dartos muscle.
