S100 proteins are a group of Ca2+ binding proteins. The main type of S100 proteins in nervous system (NS) is S1000B produced by astroglia cells and Schwann's cells. Recently, there are many researchs in the world which focuses on S100B biological activity and its mechanism, and these studies suggest that S100B plays a significant role inneuron development, neurite outgrowth and synaptic plasticity. Objective To identify age-related changes in emotional memory.Methods A neuropsychological battery was set to measure the education-matched 48 younger, 48 middle-aged and 48 normally aging adults who were given picture tasks.Results Compared with the younger [positive (67.02 ±9.70)%,neutral (60.83 ±9.18)%, negative(75.38 ±12.80)%] and middle-aged controls [positive (68.25 ±10.89),neutral (61.63 ±7.46)%, negative (72.19 ±11.34)%], the differences of the affective images recognition accuracy in the elderly [positive (61.10 ±10.06)%, neutral (49.77 ±8.35)%, negative (55.65 ±11.17)%] were statistically significant (F=6.70,F=30.17,F=38.72,P<0.05-0.01), older adults remembering positive image better than negative image (F=15.67,P<0.05).However, there was no significant difference in their rating of valence of the images. Conclusion Emotional memory is impaired in the healthy elderly people, and indicates that age-related changes in emotional memory indicates may have different neuromechanisms.

AIM:To analyze the accuracy and the influencing factors of LAMBDA100 retinometer in predicting the visual acuity of cataract patients with high axial myopia after phacoemulsification.METHODS: The retinal visual acuity was measured in 91 patients with 91 cataract eyes by LAMBDA100, and compared with the best corrected visual acuity 2wk after operations.If differences of predictive visual acuity and postoperative visual acuity between the two logarithmic visual acuity chart was within 2 lines, it was considered consistent.RESULTS: The total compliance rate was 62%, the false positive rate was 2%,the false negative rate was 36%.The predictive accuracy was affected by lens opacity, the deeper opacity, the lower accuracy.The predictive accuracy of eye with axial length ≥32mm was significantly lower than that of eye with axial length <32mm, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The predictive accuracy rate of group that preoperative best corrected visual acuity was ≥4.0 was 75%;the predictive accuracy rate of group that preoperative best corrected visual acuity was <4.0 was 49%, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: LAMBDA100 can be used as an assistant tool for predicting postoperative visual acuity in immature stage cataract of patients with high myopia.The eye axial length, the degree of visual acuity and lens opacity can influence the predicting accuracy.

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine(TCM-WM) for the treatment of senile femoral neck fracture(SFNF) during perioperative period.Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out in 59 patients.Perioperative clinical data of SFNF patients admitted in orthopedics department of the second affiliated hospital,Guangzhou University of TCM were collected and analyzed.Postoperative complications,chief complaints,joint function and X-ray examination results were used to evaluate the effect of perioperative treatment.Results The patients received AO cannulated screw fixation,artificial femoral head replacement and total artificial hip joint replacement according to the classification of SFNF.Before theoperation,55 patients suffered from internal medical complications,in particular the cardiovascular diseases.After operation,one patient had dislocation of artificial hip joint and then died of deterioration of heart failure.Neither of the other patients suffered from infection of operative wound,vascular embolism of lower limbs,cerebrovascular accident,myocardial infarction,or pulmonary embolism.The 58 patients finally discharged successfully.Conclusion Active perioperative evaluation and treatment are the important measures to ensure the success of operation for the SFNF.

Background Combination of cataractopiesis with intraocular lens (IOL) is believed to improve the patient' s quality of life. However, 1OL power and axial length measured by traditional method in silicone-filled eye is normally bias to the actual levels. The optical coherence biometry technology has been widely used in the measurement of IOL, but little studies have been conducted to demonstrate the IOL power difference between those methods. Objective This study was to evaluate the predictability of IOL power calculations using the IOLMaster and adjusting contact ultrasound A-scan method in silicone oil-filled eyes. Methods Forty-four silicone-filled eyes of 42 patients were divided into 2 groups according to the intraocular pressure (IOP) ( group A: ≥ 10 mmHg group,29 eyes;group B:＜10 mmHg group, 15 eyes). IOLMaster and ocular ultrasonic measurement were used to measure the axis length before and after silicone oil was removed. The preoperatively measured eye axis and cornea curve were used to calculate the theoretical IOL. Results In normal IOP group ( T≥ 10 mmHg,29 eyes), the precision and stability of IOLMaster for axial length ( AL ) measurements and IOL power calculations were better than adjusted ultrasound A-scan( ZIOLMasterdependent = -2. 236, P = 0. 025 ), although in low IOP group ( T＜ 10 mmHg, 15 eyes),there were too much differences in axial length mesurement and IOL power calculation between the IOLMaster and adjusted ultrasound A-scan, so the post-operative imformation was not predicted accurately. Conclusion For anticipatory normal postoperative IOP eyes, the refractive outcome in cataract surgery in silicone oil-filled eyes can be predicted reliably and accurately with IOLMaster. But for complicated or anticipatory unstable postoperative IOP eyes,secondary implantation of IOL would be better.

Objective To detect the clinical features and prognostic factors of nasal cavity malignancy with breast metastasis.Methods 846 Patients with nasal cavity malignancy from January 1999 to December 2011 were enrolled,the clinical and pathological features,clinical diagnostic methods and prognostic factors for breast metastasis patients were analyzed.Results Six female cases (median age 25) were diagnosed with breast metastasis,including 3 rhabdomyosarcoma and 3 olfactory neuroblastoma; consisting 0.7％ of the total 846 cases of primary nasal malignancy group.The metastasis were more likely to be multiple breast lesions with/without metastasis in other site.For the primary tumor,five patients received 66-72 Gy/30-33f of radical radiotherapy,one patient with rest rhabdomyosarcoma received 58 Gy of palliative radiation since breast metastasis was found after 14 Gy of radiation and breast mass resection were performed right after.For the breast metastasis,five of 6 patients received breast surgery,one patients with olfactory neuroblastoma received 6 cycles cyclophosphamide + adriamycin + vincristine chemotherapy.Median survival was 12.7 months.Conclusions For nasal cavity malignancy,breast metastasis more likely occur in younger female patients.Ultrasound may provide useful information in evaluating breast metastasis.Cases combined with metastasis except breast have unfavorable prognosis.

Super-selective transcatheter prostatic arterial embolization is a newly-developed minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia with good maneuverability, safety and fewer complications. The short-term and mid-term follow-up has proved that it has higher clinical efficacy in improving the quality of life by alleviating lower urinary tract symptoms. It emerges as an innovative technology in urology and interventional radiology. In order to ensure a successful procedure with satisfactory clinical outcome the most important considerations when performing prostatic arterial embolization are to precisely identify the prostatic artery, to correctly differentiate the anastomoses with surrounding arteries, and to properly select embolic agents. This paper aims to make a comprehensive review on the progress and current situation of prostatic arterial embolization with a focus on the clinical issues and technical challenges.

Background and purpose:The E-cadherin as a pivotal structural protein is important for cellular polarity and maintainance of normal tissue morphology and cellular differentiation. Recently some study investigated the impact of the C/A genetic polymorphism at-160 from the site of the E-cadherin gene promoter on susceptibility in NPC. To evaluate the association of the E-cadherin gene promoter-160 C/A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma risk in a Chinese population, we designed a hospital-based case-control study. Methods:Subjects included in this study were 303 patients deifnitely diagnosed with NPC, and 318 matched healthy controls. We used TaqMan Probe method for analyzing polymorphism. Results:The A/A genotype was associated with increased risk of NPC after being adjusted for age and gender (adjusted OR=2.09, 95%CI:1.03-4.22, P=0.04). When 2 gender groups were analysed respectively, female group with A/A genotypes showed a higher risk (OR=7.57, 95%CI:1.57-36.47, P=0.012). Besides, among NPC patients compared with males A/A genotype, females with A/A genotype had a signiifcant risk(OR=2.66, 95%CI:1.14-6.20, P=0.024). Conclusion:The A/A genotype of E-cadherin promoter-160 C/A might be genetic risk factor for NPC, especially female patients.

Objective To explore the impact of alcohol to attention networks.Methods The attention network test was performed in 33 alcoholics and 27 normal controls on the efficiency of three anatomically defined attentional networks:alerting,orienting and executive control.Results The orienting network function was significantly lower(t =-3.72,P ＜0.01 ) in alcoholics (26.7 ± 38.6) ms than that in normal controls (51.8 ± 22.3 ) ms.The executive networks effects was higher and the alerting networks effects was lower in alcoholics than in normal controls,however without significant difference ( P ＞ 0.05 ).Conclusion The parietal lobe and cholinergic system may be more significantly affected by the alcohol.
