National Journal of Andrology 2014;20(9):808-811
OBJECTIVETo assess the feasibility and safety of robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RLRP) in the treatment of prostate cancer.
METHODSUsing the da Vinci robot surgical system, we performed RLRP for 34 patients with localized prostate cancer and analyzed the intraoperative and follow-up data.
RESULTSThe procedures were performed successfully in all the patients, with the mean operation time of 198 min (range 135-340 min), average blood loss of 257 ml (range 50-700 ml), and 1 case of blood transfusion, but no postoperative complications. Three cases had positive surgical margins. Postoperative examination at 4 weeks showed PSA > 0.2 microg/L in 2 cases, suggestive of residual tumor, for which maximal androgen block therapy was administered. The other 32 patients were followed up for 3-10 (mean 7.5) months, during which the average level of serum tPSA remained < 0.2 microg/L. Urinary continence was found in 94% (32/34) and 97% (33/34) of the patients at 3 and 6 months, respectively, of whom 77% (26/34) and 88% (30/34) had no urinary leakage (0 pad per day).
CONCLUSIONRLRP, with its advantages of less perioperative blood loss, low rate of positive margin, and good urinary continence, is a safe and effective surgical option for the treatment of prostate cancer.

Objective MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in the chemoradiotherapy efficacy of rectal cancer (RC).This study aimed to screen the chemoradiotherapy-associated microRNAs and their target genes of RC through bioinformatics approaches in order to promote the fundamental study of RC chemoradiotherapy. Methods The chemoradiotherapy-associated microRNAs were manually searched through the published papers via PubMed and its target genes were identified by comprehensively analyzing these public data of microRNA-mRNA and gene expression profiles. Both gene ontology (GO) and pathway analysis of the target genes were performed by DAVID and IPA programs, respectively. Results A total of 38 microRNAs were collected from PubMed,and 3 545 putative target genes were inferred from the integrated microRNA-mRNA associations, among them,131 were differentially expressed (DE) (P < 0.05) in the selected gene expression profile (GSE35452).The GO and pathway enrichment analyses indicated that the DE genes were closely involved in the responses of chemoradiotherapy of RC.Conclusions These microRNAs and their regulated DE genes may contribute to the molecular mechanism of the differential efficacy of RC chemoradiotherapy, which may provide a theoretical reference for predicting the response of RC to chemoradiotherapy.

PurposeTo explore the relationship between expression of apoptosis-modulating proteins and chemotherapeutic efficacy in acute leukemia. MethodsImmunocytochemical method was used to detect the expression of Bcl-2、Bcl-XL、Bax and Bak in 36 cases of acute leukemia including previously untreated/ drug-sensitive group and refractory/relapse group. ResultsThe average positive cell rates of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL in refractory/relapse group were (41.68 ± 14.39) % and (35.96 ± 9.95 ) %, while the rates in previously untreated/drug-sensitive group were (15.64 ± 8.51 )% and (12.91 ± 8.63 )%. Statistical analysis showed the average positive cell rates of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL in refractory/relapse group were higher than those in previously untreated/drug-sensitive group (P < 0.01 ). There was no significant difference in average positive cell rates of Bax and Bak between refractory/relapse group (25.28 ± 15.49) %, (15.53 ± 10.64) % and previously untreated/drug-sensitive group (21.55 ± 12.58)%, (13.23 ± 8.36)%. The Logistic regression of expression of Bd-2 、Bcl-XL、Bax and Bak to complete remission rate (CR) of 36 cases of acute leukemia showed that Bcl-XL was the most risk factor in reducing the CR.ConclusionsBcl-2 and Bcl-XL might play important roles in multi-drug resistance of acute leukemia and Bcl-XL was more important than Bcl-2.
