Objective To explore the technique outcome of fixing the ventral stress pedicle screws into the injured vertebrae, as a method to enhance the posterior internal fixation. Methods From March 2002 to March 2005, 33 single thoracolumbar fractures were studied retrospectively. Among which, 16 cases were treated with the above method(group A), and the other 17 were treated with traditional two-level fixation(group B). Group A involved 11 males and 5 females, aged 48 years averagely(range, 32-74 years); and group B included 12 males and 5 females, aged from 21 to 61 years(mean, 40 years). All the patients underwent the operation within up to 3 weeks after fracture. For the injured vertebral bodies, their pedicles were intact on either unilateral or bilateral side, and their lower half and endplate were free from split. In group A, the pedicle screws in the injured vertebrae were used to achieve the ventral press vertical to the distraction for the stress neutralization, and also with the routine distraction and lordosis restoration, simultaneously. The mean follow-up period was 11 months with a range from 6 to 24 months. Results After operation, the optimal Cobb angle and anterior column restoration were achieved through the ventral reduction from the injured vertebral body, which was the contribution from the vertical stress pedicle screw. The degree in anterior movement of injured vertebrae pre- and postoperatively was much more in group A than group B, and the difference was of statistical significance(P

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(22):3550-3554
BACKGROUND:Elderly patients have more loose bone. After fractures, bones are mostly crushed. Simultaneously, many elderly patients experience many internal diseases. Various organs have dysfunction. Surgery tolerance is poor, which also brings difficulty in treatment with internal fixator, and increases the risk of therapy. Thus, the choice of internal fixation method is not uniform. OBJECTIVE: To compare and analyze the repair effects of proximal femoral nail anti-rotation blade and anatomic proximal femoral locking plate in treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. METHODS:A total of 100 elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures were selected from the Youyi Branch, Kunshan First People’s Hospital from April 2011 to June 2013. They were randomly assigned to two groups. Patients in the experimental group received internal fixation with proximal femoral nail anti-rotation blade. Patients in the control group received anatomic proximal femoral locking plate. After treatment, folow-up was conducted. Operative indexes, postoperative Harris score for hip function and incidence of complications were compared and analyzed in both groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: No significant difference in various indexes was detected in both groups (P > 0.05). Harris scores were significantly better in the experimental group than in the control group (P < 0.05). Postoperative complications were significantly less in the experimental group than in the control group (P < 0.05). These results indicated that internal fixation of proximal femoral nail anti-rotation blade for unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly achieved satisfactory results in the recovery of joint function and had the advantage of few complications.

Objective To understand the attitude and current situation of medical English stud y as well as its relevant factors among long schooling medical students so as to provide first hand information for constructing students-centered medical English teaching model. Methods A self-de-signed questionnaire including basic information of students, attitude and current situation of medical English students was given to 134 seven or eight year program clinical medical graduates from grade 2006 to grade 2008 in Tongji University. Questionnaires were collected timely and an-alyzed with SPSS 19.0 and results were described by percentage. Results Totally 132 copies of questionnaire were recovered with an recovering rate of 98.51%. 56.82%(75/132) students had interest in medical English study and 71.97%(95/132)students had a will to go abroad for learning exchange. Main pur-poses for students to learn medical English were ‘professional literature reading’(68.94%,91/132),‘SCI papers writing’(59.09%,78/132)and ‘international communication’(58.33%, 77/132). Main influencing factors of medical English study were ‘boring teaching methods ’ ( 45 . 45%, 60/132 ) ,‘difficult medical English’(41.67%,55/132) and ‘insufficient teaching time’(40.91%,54/132).Conclusions Medical students with long schooling have demand for medical English study;however, most of them have some difficulties in practical application. Measures should be taken from three as-pects including students, teachers and curriculum setting to improve students' medical English.
